They still make batteries for the iBook, 12" PB G4, and 17" PB G4.
So my guess is...a long time.
'Make' or 'have left over'?
As long as replacement batteries are available for a good long time, what's the difference?
I'd argue the defining question is how long will anyone keep making batteries for the older uMBP. You can still find batteries for the 12" PowerBook from Newer Tech.

My 2.8 ghz unibody says it's only upgradeable to 4gb if ram. I really don't see why they can't go to 8 though. Shouldn't it just be a firmware upgrade?
Expresscard = uselesscard for over 99% of Mac users. Saying it has more uses than the SD card slot does not make it more useful. I'd rather give up options I won't ever use than buy an SD slot adapter.
Ughhh I hate that the one with the 512 mb 9600GT is out of stock.

If you have the updated March 2009 Version of the 2.8 Macbook Pro, you should have the updated logic board which will handle 8GB of RAM like the newer Macbook Pros.
Has there been an official explanation as to why all models of the MacBook Pro do not support 8GB RAM? They all contain the same chipset (which would probably be the only factor to consider whether or not it would support or not) which easily supports 8GB. I probably won't see or use the 8GB but just out of curiosity.
How do I find this out? I bought the computer refurbished a week ago and don't know when it was manufactured, however there was a date printed on the box it shipped in that said February 9th 2009. in any case, I doubt ill ever need 8gb of ram anyway

Wrong! The defining question is:
How long will Apple keep making the defective logic boards with the 8600GT chip waiting to blow up and be replaced.

OT: What font is that? It's very cool.

Something must have change in march 2009 since all the models supporting 8GB have been launched starting from this date
They do not use the same chipset. The original uMBPs use the NVIDIA rev B2 chipset. The March 2009 and on uMBP's use the chipset that was introduced with the 17", the rev B3 chipset.
I missed the boat, and all of the Late 2008 unibody Macs are sold out now.
