I have had mine on lte throughout the workday and the battery has lasted. I do not have nor observe children - unless teaching in a post grad area at a university counts - so indeed I have no idea what they do. I was in school at a time when nuns walked around with rulers and would clobber you if you were trying to play with something - so I probably wrongly expect (I don't know why I have such an unrealistic expectation- parents even accompany their offspring to law school (where I teach) these days) that some semblance of order is maintained and if a child were playing with a watch a teacher would notice and call them out for it. I have many friends who are teachers and they are constantly undermined by the administration and parents.

Semi abused by nuns for many many years and probably deserved it every time. Rulers were the weapon of choice in the 70’s and never forget to take your hat off when entering the building or it would be removed with your hair!

Just curious - if students have to hand in and power off their phones while at school, maybe they shouldn’t be communicating while in class? Would you actually be texting her frequently or would it be for a once in a blue moon emergency scenario?

Nope. I just text her to let her know I've arrived when she's at school late for after school homework help.

If the child is in school - why would she be using the watch enough to run out of battery? I work and although I check my watch from time to time - I do not run out of battery in 24 hours. If the child is using the watch that much - something is really wrong (perhaps child is very ill or something plus there are little watch chargers she could keep in her pocket to recharge it on the go) or she/parent is misusing the watch during school time

Exactly. The only thing my daughter would actually use her watch for during the day is SOS or to receive a text from me that I'm there to pick her up. As long as it lasts a good 8 hours in this scenario, I'll be happy. From the battery life reviews on youtube, it seems it should last all day in fact if you don't use it a lot.

The SMS thing would need to be solved, however, for me to place an order again. Leaving her iphone at home is not an option because she uses Symbolab and other apps to check her homework after school.

My daughter's phone has to be turned off and turned in when she gets to school. The kids are allowed to keep the watches on. I need to be able to SMS her. The rest of the household is android so iMessage won't work from those.

Just did. Thanks for giving me permission.
why would you need to contact her if she's at school? surely she will get it back when school ends anyway

If it is after school - and she can have her phone with her to check her homework - then perhaps it does not need to be on all day if you are just trying to use it to text her that you are there to pick her up. For sos from her - I would think the school would contact you or vice versa.
I admit I don't fully understand the situation -but good luck getting it worked out for her to be able to use the watch.

Already answered.

You said she uses apps to check her homework after school, which makes it sound like at the time you'd be sending her a text message she already has her phone on her.

If its a case of needing it after you pick her up, why not keep the phone in your car and give it back to her then?

Schools do have wifi that students can get on now. So as long as she had her iPhone on the schools wifi network her Apple Watch would connect to the schools wifi network, even if her iPhone is off, no? So if her Apple Watch is on wifi, her battery would last all day easy. Wifi does not drain the battery as much as LTE would.

Also, you should listen to sdsvtdriver about the email option because that will work just as good as an SMS would. Problem solved! Reorder the poor kid her Apple Watch!

Also, I am only 32 but in school we got whacked with the ruler right on the knuckles if we were messing around, and like someone else said, if you did not take off your hat (I really never wore hats and I have a buzz cut so even if they ripped it off my head they would not get any of my hair;)) they would rip that thing off and you would be missing some hair, haha.

To follow-up on this issue... Just got off the phone with Apple. We have installed a special profile onto my watch and they are collecting data to analyze to figure out why sms is not working on LTE. Will post results/details when available.

Well I just went to test sending sms over LTE with the software they put on my watch, and it works. So clearly they have identified a fix of some sort.
