If Dell and everyone else can fit i7s, so can Apple.
i have a m15x with a i7 quad core, i assure you that apple will never sell a laptop with that cpu, since it is completely opposed to the apple laptop philosophy, cuz of consumption and heat. a m15x is a way bigger than a macbook, it has 2 huge caloducs and one big fan only for the cpu, you dont have enough space for that in a mbp, or eventually a big 17'.

Doesn't matter when Apple decides to upgrade for me. I'm simply not buying the sadly outdated tech they are currently offering in their laptop line until they do. Luckily, I have a functioning 2006 MBP but if it dies on me before Apple upgrades I'll just get a Sony Vaio. Not that Apple cares, they could release a MBP with a pentium III in it and they'd still sell out. I'm sure they realize this. Why bother upgrading to a more expensive component if people are still happy to pay a premium for the outdated one? It's only people on Macrumors that care about what's actually *inside* the case. Most people on the street see a nice looking aluminum laptop and that's enough for them.

fully agree 110%. in the same boat (minus currently having an 06 MBP)

Apple really needs to come out with some new stuff,
they're going to loose so much on the ipad.
A new MBP would make bank.

As bad as the iPad may look right now, Apple will find a way to make it become mainstream mobile devices. First, ebook readers will use it, then many professionals will use them for business tasks, and then average consumers will become jealous and start using them too. It takes time for any mobile device to become widely popular, with the exception being the mp3 player. In the long-run, the iPad could become a catalyst for Apple's profitability.

I know, It's unfortunate how stupid consumers are today.
To be honest I was a big Apple fan anticipating the Ipad.
I gotta say when I saw it I died a little inside.

Oh look, another person who regrets waiting and attempts to pacify their feelings of regret by putting down people who are wiser.

Get over yourself.
Yea, I really regret waiting to spend money on a product that isn't comprised of 3+ year old technology. You got me there.

Sorry, im on his side. Your comment in this thread was purely confrontational.

I don't really care whose side you're on. Good for you.

If you look at his original post, you will notice that he was the one being confrontational to begin with. There was no need for his original comment, it didn't add anything to the discussion. I merely replied to it by changing one word in his post to point on how ridiculous his comment was.

*yawn*

I was a mac fan since the first powerbooks. But this time they overblew my patience. Everytime i waited for an update without even thinking about getting something else. Not that the MBP are not good machines but they are using just very old technology compared to the rest of the market. Honestly i don t need much more power then the MBP i have now has but i chosed mac back in the days because it was always ahead of time which seems not to be the case anymore. The new windows isn t bad at all therefore for the first time i ll get an PC next week probably a vaio.

As for the iPad i m still not convinced either i expected something better from them.

okay great, get a pc, go you, etc.

why people feel the need to announce their imminent purchase of a pc on here all the time is beyond me, but

Every time I am down at Regent Street, I see the MBPs flying out the door.

People who are saying that Apple MUST update are spending too much time reading about chipsets and specs on Internet forums.

The general public is quite happy with the current lineups and Apple will update the MBP when they are good and ready. There is no gun to their head to do so.

Agreed, I just picked up a 2.88Ghz MBP two days ago and it's perfect. While there will obviously be an upgrade with the new processors the difference in those and the current higher end MBPs won't be that drastic.

i can wait till mid of this year. no problem, i got my macbook black backing me up:cool:

Apple MUST update soon. Core 2 Duo's are no longer made by Intel and Apple does not have thousands on stock. The update will occur within a reasonably short time period.

intel is still making c2d's. all the i chips are made at the test fab in oregon. after the manufacturing issues are worked out and a process is established, intel will get other fabs to make the i chips using the same process as they worked out in Oregon.

2010 they will increase production of the new CPU's over the course of the year

I don't buy that some unloader at best buy would know
that no refresh is due for the reasons stated. I think best buy is delayed in getting their product refreshes anyway so it's real hard to tell.

not a "unloader" i just happen to be there verifying trucks and products that come off of it. I work "inventory". I noticed a difference in shipments before the iMac refresh and the MacBook refresh.

I'll take some screen shots of what our inventory system shows. (never mind, i forgot, im just a unloader)

Tomorrow ill look and see if we still have MacBooks coming in. And check the EOL (end of life) report.

Trust me, im big into Apple releases and i need a new MacBook Pro

Apple updates products regardless of whether the sales are up or down. It's their obligation as a computer company to do so.

I was at two separate Apple stores Today in two different UK cities and people were still buying MBP's like hot-cakes.

I smell a 12 month Summer refresh

Meanwhile, the Arrandale thread is almost a YEAR old . . .
How is that at all relevant to the question of when the 2010 models will be released?

When that thread was started it was understood that Arrandale would not be appearing until the Q4 2009-Q1 2010 timeframe.

Now that the chips have been released, the update will obviously happen at some point in the near future.

If by "loose so much" you mean the iPad becoming a third of Apple's profits in two years, and by "A new MBP would make bank" you mean make a single digit percentage of Apple's quarterly profit, then you're right.
