I'd much rather have lightning than USB-C. The lightning ports are smaller, and far more secure than USB-C ports, which can often feel sloppy and loose.

And I'd wager real world speeds on 5G are just the same as they are on 4G, which are pretty much the same as they were on 3G.

This is so true.
In the real world such salesman-led propaganda means little when you just want your email and to view the news. What about calls though in regard to the new networks? Already many MVNOs do not have 4G calling so you can find when you are on 4G browsing you can't make a call as the handset drops to 3G. And in UK many areas are without 4g or 3g so when is 5G likely to give coverage? And will rolling out 5G impact further investment in the areas still without 3G or 4G???

Every usb C cable and peripheral I’ve used has always felt a bit sloppy and “loose” I currently have an Honor 8 as a back up phone, in case I break my iPhone, and the usb c connection on that doesn’t feel great. Nowhere near as firm/snug connecting as a lightning cable.

I’m sure usb c would be great, if apple were to implement it. But I’m in no rush for it.

It’s pretty loose..

On my 2017 iMac USB-C is so tight i have to pull pretty hard, and carefully, and its not loose on my iPad, so that's two USB-C ports both tight on the iMac and one on my iPad that's tight, id love to ditch lightning and i cant see Apple using two cables on two devices for much longer, having one cable for all devices is easier. Lightning I think will go next year. People were like this over the 30 pin connector, then when it changed lightning was the best thing since sliced whatever! Years ago all cables for phones in the EU were meant to be changed to USB-C, Apple just never bothered following the EU directive over here. MacRumours forums are so fickle its almost funny.
