One, design is one of the most important aspect for apple when they sell a product. If you add a CDMA and EVDO radio to the iPhone, it will not be quite as thin as it is now. They would have to make a completely different handset.

Two, they like to streamline their products as much as possible, that's why you only get limited option when configuring a Mac and why they when with a pentaband 3G chip, to streamline their production line.

There are dual-mode chips out there that can handle both techs without sacrificing size or altering dimensions. That would ultimately be the most streamlined option available, as one unit would work for most networks.

Three, CDMA may be around for a while, but EVDO will be replaced with LTE shortly, and while it will still be around, it will probably get killed of sooner than CDMA. CDMA is what as being used as the voice while EVDO is strictly data. EVDO has also reached it's peak, which is slower than what carriers have released as GSM 3G. EVDO is the true dying technology and we all know how apple feels about supporting dying technologies.

This is true, but for the sake of argument, let's say a CDMA capable iPhone comes out next year. EVDO would certainly outlive the shelf-life of that particular device or even its predecessors.

Four, when verizon finally launches LTE, it won't just be a miraculous switch and suddenly the entire verizon network is LTE. It will take time. Remember how apple waited an extra year until 3G was more widespread before they released the iPhone 3G? And again, even after verizon launches LTE, they will still be using CDMA as their voice protocol, and they would still have to include an EVDO radio because CDMA data is even slower than edge.

No argument here. I've never understood why people think the LTE launch date is like walking through the shining door way. It'll be a long, drawn-out rollout.

Five, Steve jobs will hold a grudge, and if the reports of verizon rejecting the 1st iPhone are true along with the jabs verizon has taken with their driod marketing, it's possible he wouldn't allow it out of spite.

Everyone has a price. After all, we do have iTunes/Safari for Windows and Office for Mac. Crazy times, eh? :)

I am hoping it does go to Verizon so that all the moaning and complaining stops, then tons of ppl jump over only to clog their network and complain, then AT&T will still have me as a customer and I will have better serrvice as well.

Win Win for all of us who wish to stay with AT&T

I can go on about the horror stories I have with VZ customer service and how AT&T has been great to me, but to each their own, so I am on AT&T and my sons and wife are on VZ, pretty soon the kids will jump over to AT&T with me :D and my wife will be on VZ all alone waiting for the iPhone to hit there.

There will still be hundreds of "verizon iPhone" threads because the "verizon fanboy freaks" can't get it through their thick skulls. It's almost like there all delusional:eek:

"Fanboy freaks"? Really? Who pissed in your cheerios? I'd say a comment like that makes you the fanboy bro.

I'll never understand the mean spirited **** that goes on around here when it comes to discussing carriers. People are mostly comparing apples to oranges considering that my reception on AT&T in my neighborhood is most likely a different experience than yours. I wish all this cross-carrier arguing would just end. All of you guys hating on either carrier really need to get a life.

Yeah, dont we all wish.
There will still be many Verizon threads, people dont give up hope I guess :D

Unfortunately, you are probably right. There is nothing that will end the Verizon iPhone rumors short of Verizon issuing a statement saying it won't ever be coming to Verizon.

Dude I was dragging along today hoping Monday would end and then I read your Post I highlighted the funny part in RED I am now having a better day because of that phrase. I am sitting here laughing at my desk, and I think everyone around me thinks I have lost it, but how can I explain this to them

Yeah, might steer clear of an iPhone upgrade for a change next summer. Will avoid paying ETF when I switch to Verizon's 4G service. Though part of me still thinks that something is in the works. Why would AT&T suddenly raise their ETF and give out early upgrades? Seems fishy. Trying to retain all the two-year people who would be waiting to upgrade and decide to jump ship. Delaying the inevitable, mass exodus from their network. Things won't get significantly better until there is competition! Everyone wins with multiple carriers.

I agree it did seem pretty fishy the way the do it. I just don;t buy that they were simply trying to be nice to their customers. They are a business after all and not any normal business, they have repeatedly showing they don;t care if you are happy, as long as you dont; leave and really they barely care if you leave. They still have the big phone company attitutde.

I really considered waiting with my 3G to see if the latest 5 "OMG iPhone to Verizon Confirmed!!!" rumors posted by Bloomberg or some some other "analyst" in another financial rag came true. But, eventually I just adopted the attitude below, though I did wait on a line to get mine on release day so I would have as little time as possible left on my ATT contract, whenever something might happen.

Which is why mines on order, I was sick of waiting, rumors and such, time for my iphone to finally be in my hands. :D

It's still unknown if VZW wants the iPhone on Apple's terms. Jobs was politely escorted out of VZW HQ when he approached them when the iPhone was still a concept. Now it's one of the most popular smart phones on the planet so Apple has even more chips. Will one or both sides backdown? Plus VZW has been bashing the iPhone of late. Jobs is known for his long memory.

okay for the love of god, there will NEVER EVER be a CDMA iphone... NEVER, its a dead technology and apple never follows numbers they follow trends, future trends.. the CDMA cannot do voice + data at the same time, which is 90% of the appeal of the iphone...

CDMA is not GSM of overseas and thus as a business prospect is completely null and void..

THERE WILL NEVER BE A VERIZON IPHONE UNLESS THEY UPGRADE TECHNOLOGY!!!!

EVER GIVE IT UP!!!

>>>>This gets my vote for the Stupidest post of the year.

Well, CDMA perhaps not...but since Verizon's rolling out LTE to many cities by end of this year, who knows....while ATT, who knows when...

You say that as if Verizon is going to have tons of cities up and online in the blink of an eye. Lol. LTE is not coming anytime soon and it wont be viable until at least 4th quarter 2011 - IF THAT. So please, don't get your hopes up. Verizon LTE is just as grand as Sprint's 4G is right now. Available MOSTLY in Texas.

I just read this on article on Cnet. It seems to confirm that the iPhone exclusivity contract with AT&T won't end until 2012.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-20010212-37.html?tag=newsLatestHeadlinesArea.0

Apple has never publicly stated how long its exclusivity contract with AT&T is, though a five year time period--first reported by USA Today back in 2007--was recently confirmed through court documents related to this case.

Hopefully this will end the endless Verizon iPhone rumors.

This article does not mention "Verizon" at all  making the title of the thread misleading, no? lol just my 2 cents.

So why did Apple offer the iPhone to Verizon first?

I love when freaks like you make these statements, all in CAPS even, as if you actually know what you're talking about. It makes it funner to quote the post later when you're wrong and laugh. :D

No one knows if/when Verizon will get the iPhone. It's all speculation. Those of you saying "it WILL" or "it WON'T" are making fools of yourselves, unless your name is Steve Jobs.

I think they already did say that they dont have any plans of releasing an Apple device in the near future on their network.
Nobody can say never cause you never know what happens but I dont see it for at least 2 years or more. And even after that noone knows what can happen.

I always thought the ones making fools of themselves were the ones posting these Verizon threads over and over and over. Just sayin’.

Re read my post. Never said LTE WON'T be rolled out until 2011.

couldnt agree with you more on this

Them, too. But asking a question doesn't make one a fool. Answering it when you don't really know the answer does.

I'm personally done with the whole iphone/verizon thing. Especially now with reports of the iphone not being a recommended product. I'm going droid and if,when, or someday when verizon's site shows it on their website and shows a release date with a price then, I'll consider it. After the things i'm reading on the iphone 4, It's really starting to push me away from it.

+1 - Moto's and Verizon's recent full page NY Times ad saying you can hold the Droid X "anyway you like" can't be making Steve feel any Verizon love!

Great to have seen this confirmed! Now for the lawsuit... just lawyers being pricks like always. Someone needs to kick their asses please.

To see what confirmed? All they confirmed was the duration. That doesn't mean there isn't a buy-out option or renegotiation possible.

Pretty funny how Verizon is constantly bashing the iPhone and people are still dreaming of it coming to Verizon. Those ads will really help their sales......

Open your eyes, Verizon may be stupid but they are not crazy enough to bash the iPhone if they have any ideas of selling it!!

Stick with Android. It's where the future is anyway.

I'll say it one more time, what the marketing department OF A PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANY does is quickly forgotten when multi-billion dollar deals are on the table. Publicly traded part is key...these CEOs have boards and stockholders to report to. They have to have DAMN good reasons to pass up 92 million potential customers. "Well, they made fun of our phone!" won't cut it.

Not saying it's gonna happen (although I believe it eventually will...just don't know when), but I'm saying your reasoning is completely false.
