The original terms of the contract are only interesting for historical reasons. That agreement has probably been amended several times. The first time was when the 3G came out and ATT provided a fat subsidy.

Apple has the chips do whatever it wants. The real issue likely CDMA vs waiting for LTE or Verizon being pigheaded about stupid stuff like putting it's logo on the phone, mandatory apps, extra user fees, or getting a cut of iTunes store profits. No matter how much people think they're in love with Verizon they're still a giant phone company and phone companies have always road roughshod over consumers.

Good post.

Agreed. Although I still don't think CDMA is a real problem. Second half of that makes the most sense to me.

It's not a problem and I didn't mean to indicate it was. It's just a choice of going with CDMA or waiting for LTE. I think Apple would prefer not to put out a CDMA phone. As long as they're seeing strong iPhone growth they can probably wait.

So, I think it's either that or the political issues like I mentioned. Low on the end of possibilities I think are technical issues (CDMA) and any agreement with ATT.
