So heres the story. This VoLTE coding needs to be added back to my phones profile, and neither the tech support lady or her manager have the rights to do this. So he had to create a case with their top tier tech support to add this coding back and it should work. They said 5 business days before they would be able to get to it. She just texted me the case #, so I will follow up at the end of this week and update when I hear something.

i've got a VZW 6 on AT&T, and my VoLTE works just fine.

No its just the "Sim-Free" phones from apple. Not the carrier specific ones you can buy. The Sim-free ones from apple are non carrier specific and can be used world wide on any iphone compatible network. And for some reason, ATT does not see them VoLTE capable like the other carrier locked ones.

Must be his FL-market phone number... My number is local.

shouldn't be it either. I've got an 812 area code number, which is not in a VoLTE market, but I can use VoLTE in any market where it's available.

Carrier update 18.0 did not allow me to use it, but once 18.1 came out, I was able to use VoLTE in Indianapolis, Chicago, etc.

yep, sorry I knew that, I was just replying to the other person that stated his VZW 6+ wasn't working with VoLTE. Do you know if anyone has tried using an unlocked Sprint model to see if it has the same issues the SIM-Free model does? I would assume it would, since it's the same phone, but wasn't sure.

My friend had a problem with volte NY area code here in Boston. We put his sim with adapter to old Nokia 6665b, waited till the system updated his imei and showed Nokia on OLAM system, then switched the SIM back to iPhone 6, he got his volte right away. He had 18.0 carrier , was updated to 18.1. Phone is like mine t-mo unlocked version, not att.

We called each over in Boston and went north 95 , it was showed volte almost until NH, far away from HD voice border here. We disconnected our "volte conversation" , tried to make another call was switched to 4g. Came back to Boston - we both had volte. We think that some towers support volte when you are already on the volte call, but when you try to make a call it goes to 4g.

Mine updated the carrier settings to 18.1 the first time I synced it with itunes with I first got it. Still doesnt work. Im still waiting on the case that the low level tech support person opened to be handled. I have a case ## and havent followed up with them about it yet. It still doesnt work as of today, so who knows if they have even gotten to my case yet. So still now VoLTE.

If they work your ticket as fast as they upgrade their network, it should work fine by the time you get an iPhone 7 :D

You are right, I was in the same situation. Now I live in the area, where is no volte, but if I start my call in Boston and go home I'm still on volte. Before it was 4g in Boston, then call disconnection on volte/4g border all the time for 2 weeks. I called CS, they couldn't help me. As per CS they provision to volte by primary usage address. This is not your home address or billing. It can be any address in volte area. I don't think they changed mine since I'm in "partial" volte area they just provision me automatically . I also heard that volte would be extended soon (2-3 months period). Also they have wider and wider LTE 2 here. I think the trick with my friend just forced his iphone to carrier update. Nothing more, but you can try.

If only iPhone 6s supports LTE12 I be on t-mo due to their cheep roaming. I spent 80 dollars per month on roaming. Now I have an iPad on t-mo for 20 dollars/month (iPad on t-mo postpaid also has international data roaming in 100 countries). So I don't care what Att upgrades after 10 years with "Cingular". I'll get my 6s on contract, switch and t-mo gives me ETF :)Now without low band LTE12 700 MHz t-mo is not competitive in my area. Too much 2g. But in Boston yesterday int gave me 80 mB/s speed on ipad. It is very strong in Metro area.

This thread is specifically about VoLTE not working on the SIM-Free version of the iPhone 6 or 6+. Is that what you have?

thank you very much for pointing me on the thread. Yes I have 3 unlocked iphones 6. Same story with my friend. Sorry for the offtops here. All 3+1 iphones 6 are with NY area code and we live iutside of the nearest hd voice area, which is Boston for us. I was without volte the day it was launched in Boston, two weeks ago all 3 phones were provisioned to volte.

Yup, it seems that you are correct. Out of market VoLTE devices were white-listed recently in Boston. My friend with the VZW iPhone 6+ on AT&T grabbed a new SIM last night and his VoLTE started working almost immediately. Problem solved

**UPDATE**

So last I posted, I said that the ATT tech support people opened up a case for me with some higher level tech support people to look at. Well yesterday I got a text with the case number, and the message said it was resolved. Didnt say what they did, but the message said my case was resolved.

So me having little faith on a long shot case that was opened up a week ago, made my test call hoping that YES Volte was back on and that my call to my wife's iphone would connect at the higher audio codec and sound as good as before or like it does when you call with facetime audio.

It worked flawlessly and the first time. So in summary, the sim-free iphone 6 plus that would not connect volte calls, now does just like my last launch day ATT iphone 6 did. It works. If I have time, I will try to call them and see exactly what was done so I can post it here.

And no Im not going to post my personal case## from apple. But I will try to get the correct verbage as to what had to be changed on their end.

So case solved. And yes you can get sim-free phones to use VoLTE like the locked ones can.

**Double UPDATE**

So I had a few minutes, and called AT&T. They said that all they did was open a case to their tier 3 tech support department, and that the tier 3 people added the VoLTE feature to my account for this new sim-free phone. The tier 3 people were the only ones that can do this, not the normal customer service/tech support people or their managers.

And this is only for AT&T people. If you are having this issue with another carrier's sim, then Im not sure what to tell you. But thats the resolution for people with Apple store bought SIM-FREE phones that are trying to use them on AT&T with VoLTE calling.

Hope this helps someone.

wow, that seems way too simple :D

wonder why they don't have VoLTE added to the phones in the first place? I would assume because they haven't listed that item number as compatible in their inventory. It would be nice to see if anyone purchasing a phone after they got yours fixed would have the issue or not.

Im sure they will have issues. Like you said, at&t doesnt see them as volte capable. It needs to be added manually.

Im having the same issue only i cant do facetime or tethering. It asks me to call AT&T despite having these features on my account.

Mine still isn't working correctly. I guess I need to call AT&T again and request that they turn VoLTE on for my line.

Can some AT&T person who has had this issue contact me privately?

So like others in this thread, I bought a SIM-free unlocked iPhone 6 from Apple, model a1586, and VoLTE doesn't work.

I've been to the AT&T store, on the phone 3 times with tech support, and they escalated it to the network division who called me yesterday and also claim there is no way to add VoLTE to my profile.

Since others here have had the problem solved, could somebody please PM me their case # if they remember it, so the next time I talk to the AT&T networking department, I can have them look up the case # and see how it got resolved? I suspect I just got routed to the wrong part of AT&T technical support: I said I needed Tier 3 and they claimed they were, but perhaps there is more than one Tier 3 department?

Many thanks,

Justin

I haven't been able to get AT&T to cooperate. VoLTE still isn't working for me.

Thanks, T5Brick. That's very disappointing. I was hoping since you hadn't posted since April it was because your issue had been resolved as BriOS reported it had been for him.

Has anyone seen any recent changes in VoLTE functionality on AT&T for the Sim-Free iPhones? Mine still doesn't work, even on the iOS 9 GM.

I actually had to take my iPhone into an Apple store and have it swapped out. The replacement had functioning VoLTE.
