I actually had to take my iPhone into an Apple store and have it swapped out. The replacement had functioning VoLTE.
Was it replaced with the same A1586 or did you end up with an AT&T specific version? I had mine replaced for another reason, and that one still doesn't use VoLTE.

I've got a 6+, so it was replaced with the same A1524 model.

I just did an online chat with AT&T and they asked for my IMEI and SIM ID #, and now I have VoLTE on my SIM-Free iPhone 6. It sounds like maybe the features were not automatically enabled when I went from a 5S to a 6 last year.

When I spoke with them on the phone, they took my IMEI number and told me that Apple had sold me a Sprint iPhone and that it wasn't supported on their network and thats why VoLTE didn't work.

Eventually they had me swap out the SIM card and it still didn't work, after which they suggested swapping out my phone. Since I still had warranty I just took it in and Apple swapped it.

Either way I'm glad you got it working!

Sorry for being late to the game on this, but does VoLTE only work with the iPhone 6 series? I have a 5 currently (in L.A.) and never heard of VoLTE before.

Yes, iPhone 6 and later only.

BrIOS,

Thank you for all the excellent info! I just bought an unlocked Sony Xperia phone that is fully VoLTE compliant but not working on AT&T in my home market which is VoLTE. All calls drop the LTE status and then it returns when the call terminates.

I will follow your advise on tier III involvement and report back.

That is not an AT&T-approved VoLTE device. The one devices on the approved list are the ones who sold by them and carrier-free iPhones.
