I believe the responses from these companies (Nokia and Samsung alike) shows how desperate they are. They see Apple products as superior products and the one to beat. Hence the bashing.

Of the food photos we have taken using iphones, none are that underexposed even under low lights.

Speaking of which, I have seen the photos taken with Samsung phones, they look as good too. On the other hand, I can't say the same for Lumia phones (but the panoramic function looks good though).

My conclusion is that they all are the same or similar in shot quality.

The OlloClip and the many other 'add-ons' are not "compromises" - they are optional extras.

All optional extras are there to addressed compromises. There just called Optional Extras because its a nicer way of saying thing you need to get to improve something you have. Two-ply toilet paper are optional extras, and it's there for people who don't want to make a compromise when they wipe their butt.

Not really correct - you don't 'need' any of these accessories to take better pictures or make the stock camera work 'better' either - you can choose them to do alternate things if you wish - just like a DSLR - you wouldn't call adding a macro or fish eye lens to a DSLR 'compromising' would you? No.

Well, at least there's Oggl for Nokia, so it's not totally hopeless.

I'd be quite happy to just use a 1020 and Oggl - seriously.

Here are some photos I just shot in the last 30 minutes of my very-well lit work area...
...There's no comparison, guys... the camera on the iPhone 5 isn't very good, no matter what Apple marketing may tell you.

Thanks for the comparisons - while its interesting and I think the EOS is the 'better' shot (while dark it holds the detail and computer monitors better), all of those shots are pretty awful.

It would be better taking some photos of things that people might actually shoot rather than their rabbit-hole/man cave?

Yes the iPhone is crappy in low light but none of those images are attractive - just saying!

Great ad. Not only does the Nokia run on an infinitely better OS than iOS, but it's camera is light years ahead of it. All for a cheaper price, and you dont have to wait in line like a fool to get one.

Infinitely better OS? That slam you just heard was your credibility walking out the door. MS makes the only smartphone OS that's not secure enough for most enterprises to use on Microsoft Active Sync!!

If you're comparing photos from the original firmware on the 920, then your statement might have some credence... but after the firmware update at the beginning of the year, it brought the 920 to the top of the pack.

He already said that in low light the iPhone 5 struggles...so i'm not sure what your point is here.

Only the S100 comes out on top in those pictures. The rest are pretty much par for course.

ok, i see what they're doing here. and i actually have respect for the phone itself because it has incredible specs as far the camera goes. but seriously, that was a lame ad. it's no better than a shamwow infomercial with side by side comparisons. the ad people should be fired.

Explain what is "superior" on the iphone besides the os (which optimizes some hardware tasks but is more of an personal preference anyways). I will give you a clue its not the screen size/res, memory, processor, camera or harddrive.

I do however admit the apps are better on the iphone ;)

rule #1 learned in business school: never bash your competitors to promote your own product

Nokia doesn't know how to sell its products other than comparing it to the iphone 5, what a bunch of amateurs

Apple bashes it's competitors products and has for years. Steve bashed windows and even Bill Gates.

Funny how all these smartphone Ads target one brand of phone....the iPhone!

I thought Apple was "falling behind" :apple:

Truth. The Mac/PC commercials only started appealing to me when they let Hodgman be a lovable character. The previous switch to Mac commercials before that also did a fair amount to PC bashing.

True .. Ironically speaking I love Hodgman more than Justin Long. So innocent, and likable more than snobby hipster Mac LOL

Some years ago Wall-E movie also considered Mac and PC comparative figures with Eve and Wall-E character.
And guess what, who saves the day in the end? Wall-E the junk robot PC!

Knock-ia? That's how it's pronounced?

I always called it No-kia.

You learn something new everyday.

Actually you were right. And no you didn't learn anything new from this commercial.

"That's how it's pronounced?" should have been asked, "Is that how they pronounce it" Leaving us to decided who is 'they'. Multi-national corporation with multiple intonations. and markets with their own interpretations.

Let's move on to "LaCie"

The iPhone killer will come from a company that makes fantastic computers, especially laptops and music players, as well as tablets that use UNIX as the underlying OS architecture... oh, wait that company already exists: :apple:

And 98.44% of my pictures are taken in places where I don't have WiFi connectivity.

Admit it you just made that number up. I'm going to need some data points.

North America has always pronounce things weird :p

North America? Did you just say North America? Only Canadians say North America, and even when they do, they don't mean to include Mexico or the other 7 countries of the new continent of 'central america'

Introducing the Nokia Luma ad: because we had to justify having such an oddly placed camera.

Wtf really?! haha the iphones camera, when you tilt to wide screen your fingers are often in the way and you need to hold it oddly so you dont drop it. Camera in the center is a better idea, than you can hold the phone on both sides much easier!

Ok, lets get a few things straight as some people are getting themselves in a bit of a tizzy...

In the UK, where this ad was shot, it is pronounced Knockia, in the US it is NO-kia and in Finland it is NoKEEa. They are all basically correct. It just depends on which version of English you speak (see 'aluminium' etc)

None of the pictures have been faked or retouched. They are the original pictures taken straight off the phones and dropped into the edit.

The skater shots were taken less than 10mins apart, the weather in London just moves real fast sometimes. All the photos were taken by real people, not a pro photographer and not a Nokia technician. Just like you or me taking point and shoot pictures with our phones, no clever tricks, no dicking around with the settings and no photoshop. Just point and shoot. That was kind of the point. It does legitimately show that in some, indeed most situations that we encountered that the 925 takes better pictures, especially in low light. They aren't perfect. And you'll notice that it says 'better' not 'perfect' pictures. If you want perfect pictures, use a Canon 1D (or better still, medium format film!) and get Rankin to shoot it.

Have a nice day.

Wow, did you make this CM? If so, you can really gain by reading the responses of 'real people, not a pro photographer and not a Nokia technician.' To your CM

Okay so Microsoft is basing the iPad, but the Surface is getting killed when it comes to sales numbers, and the same thing is now happening with the the Lumia... when will they learn?

I'm happy to see a commercial that shows the true faults of the iPhone versus its competition. The iPhone's low light camera performance is my biggest gripe.

If compared with Samsung Galaxy S4 low light performances, I'm am glad I have the last year iPhone 5...

Making the iPhone 5S with a 12mp camera is not improving anything. It's making it worse. I don't need larger, crappy photos. Larger sensor, better optics are needed, not higher MP and another LED added to the flash.

ya... i never used the flash

I am a professional photographer and this is clearly hype. The difference between f2.0 and f2.4 is half a stop. The Zeiss lens is surely a $10 piece of plastic, not a $2500 camera lens. The dark image has nothing to do with either aspect - it has to do with the automatic exposure control - and I have an iphone5 and never gotten dark images like that. And these other things "benefits" over the iphone camera are all gimmicks.

Apparently this is all an effort to distract from the fact that they don't have the apps or operating system or reputation to compete in any significant way.

Yes...Yes I did.
