Wow...12 pages of comments on this? Gotta love MR. I don't know what was less funny - that ad or some of the remarks regarding that ad I read in these last 12 pages.

That said, yes the ad was terrible. The product, however, is not THAT bad.
I work in IT and we tested nearly every Windows 8/8.1 tablet that has been released. The RT models are awful, limiting, and overpriced for what they do (unless you can get an older Surface1-RT).

However, the tablets running non-RT Windows are very handy and useful - especially in a work environment.
There are many times where I need to do many IT functions which need some sort of computer access but a laptop is either inconvenient or too much. In that case the Windows tablets work great! And the non-RT ones give you access to all desktop apps so that makes it doubly so.
But I know everyone's needs are different - just giving you my POV.

If you can't successfully market your product on it's strengths alone then you've failed at marketing.

Man, has creativity and originality just completely disappeared from advertising? It's all the same, boring "We're better than (insert apple product here)!".

Tablets with keyboards have been available for years.

They are called laptops.

Even if Nokiasoft were to make a good product, Microsoft's marketing people would blow it. They have a very hard time putting together an add that is classy and portrays them and their product in a positive light. Whenever they go after Apple directly like this it just makes them look mean and bitter. Part of the problem is that they can't use humour because Microsoft people have no sense of humor, so when they try they just look mean-spirit like in those Steve Jobs skits they put out after the 5C launch.

If I ran MS I would completely revamp the marketing wing of the company.

They might have a decent tablet for a relatively good cost, but their marketing seems to always let them down.

The actually put out some good window phones, even thought of trying one out last year after watching the 'media event' they had in early September. When they announced the phone would be released 'sometime' in October, that was a huge miss since iPhone5 came out end of September.

As ridiculous as it is laughable!

Nokia should mind their own business instead of trying to poke fun at Apple. What's really laughable is their whole Lumia product line: impractical, cumbersome, flawed design, ridiculous and hard to use keyboard.

But the Nokia 2520 runs RT...

They need to fire their marketing agent. I got confused by this commercial. What I got from it was I need to buy an apple laptop and the ipad in order to get a girl 's attention in a coffee shop, having any other device, I probably wouldn't be noticed.

What's irritating is that sometimes it works

Ugh.... wow that was such an awkward video. That is the dumbest way to announce your product ever. Just show us what it can do, make the price irresistible and we can decide for ourselves.

(skipping 10 pages)

What is it with tablet makers (MS, Nokia, etc.) building their "our tablet is better than iPad" ads on how much better the experience on theirs is because of a keyboard vs iPad without keyboard, yet their keyboard is a separate purchase* and iPad keyboards are available for comparable prices (and far more variety at that)?

Stupid in the same category as "6oz of our product has 20% more than 5oz of theirs! (same price per ounce, packaged in 5oz and 1oz units sold separately)."

* - "free for limited time" is not persuasive.

You are right. The other thing they hit for is that you can run two apps at the same time. But if you have the RT and try that, it really sucks. Most apps are a bit unusable when it's minimized to ⅓ of the screen.

----------

I also just realized, MS ad about siri when she says "oh snap, not this again". Just made me want to get the ipad mini. Because siri is witty and funny in the ad, while the windows tablet just had a keyboard that was separate anyway and twice as expensive as pretty much any keyboard for the ipad. And it just sat there and did nothing in the ad. Again, fire their marketing.

It's unapologetically British, just like the iPhone 5C is unapologetically plastic. In other words, you either have to be a pretentious person interested in tacky products, or a Brit to get it.

HAHA... british humor is funny now, it didn't used to be. I think this is just an example of another Nokia\MSFT fail. It's not the first, sure won't be the last.

iPad vs Windows Tablets

We've got 24 HP Tablets for work running the full blown Windows 8.
I actually have a lot of fun using them, but they are definitely sub par compared to my iPad Air.

Pros on the tablets:
-Touch screen is responsive
-Windows 8 is actually a pretty fun touchscreen interface, I personally like it
-You can go over to the desktop version of Windows if you need to (granted we don't need to for our purposes)
- They came with a keyboard case that works decently, but is bulk and heavy
- has an SD card slot (haven't used it yet)

Negatives on Windows 8 and the specific HP tablets I have for work:
- They are unreliable, they crash, they have to do Windows updates frequently
- Some touch screen controls aren't very intuitive and must be learned, e.g. you have to swipe down from the top or bottom edge of the screen to get the address bar to appear in Explorer, you have to swipe from the side edge of the screen to get the more basic Windows controls like power off
- The tablets are thicker and heavier, and the batteries die quicker because they are running full blown desktop software
- Some things are just a little buggy and glitchy on the interface, like the way the keyboard slides out on the touchscreen and away, not smooth like iOS6 :p (iOS 7 is glitchy for me on my iPhone4 but perfect on my Air - wish i didn't upgrade the 4, happy with the Air on iOS7)
- The power cable connector is like the old Apple 10 pin connector except cheaper, only fits one way but slides in the wrong way just as easily

These are just a few of the major things, but is not comprehensive.
I would never trade my iPad Air for it, but playing around with it is fun, and different

Does anyone know if all windows rt tables are upgradable? Say if I have the old tablet, can I upgrade to the new OS. If not, then iPads are awesome because you can get the new OS always.

That's "buried the LEDE".

"Lede" is mainly used in the the U.S. and isn't so popular throughout the rest of the world. Lede was created in 1965; the original spelling was changed (in the U.S.) to avoid confusion with the heavy element lead (as in lead poisoning) which is/was used in typesetting. (It's worth noting that lede's use in journalism extends beyond this single expression.)

"Lead" is generally used throughout the rest of the world and even in parts of the United States; in fact, lede doesn't appear in most (all?) English-language dictionaries, including ones of American English.

This has always been the case.

In the 50s-80s, guys wanted to build the best car to impress ladies or wear the best leather jacket. Girls would buy fashion jeans or shoes. The 80's were walkmans, swatches, etc. It's just what always happens. Some people buy things to try to impress others. Today it's phones and gadgets.

There are people who try to impress people.
There are people who like to be impressed.
And there are others who think this whole thing is stupid.
Which group do you belong to?

Nokia isn't owned by Microsoft yet. This has nothing to do with MS.

Yes, I know it's not "official". I posted the quote from the article so I am aware. But you're wrong in stating that it "has nothing to do with MS". It very much does.

Fixed it.

I don't get it? Everything they mentioned it "lacks" I see people do constantly with their iPad.
And really? You poked fun at the iPads battery life? Well that confirms it, they have never actually used an iPad.

As someone else mentioned, it has been like that since the beginning of humans just about. It's just human nature to do that really. Maybe not with tech gadgets with some people but certainly with cars and fashion.
