so I just called apple (after checking my order status about 15 minutes ago there was a message in red at the top of the screen saying to call them at such and such number)

The person I got on the other end of the line had no idea what that was for and while I was talking to him I got an email saying that if I didn't cancel them they had to cancel the order because of FTC law 😕

Anyways, I've got a 50 dollar credit back onto my card, and he was going to put it on next day shipping (or rather the equivalent because they don't have that for canada) but then realized that he couldn't because the ipod nano had already been shipped and an order can only have one type of shipping in their computer system 🙄
An improvement...but I still have to wait 2 more weeks for the computer, so by the time I get it I'll have waited a month from the order date...

Maybe I should email Steve 😛

Bump...

Anyone had any success with shipping yet? My Order Status still says my MacBook will ship on the 24th Aug. 😡 !! I hate not knowing what on earth is happening 😕

Hey..

Im from the UK too so we should be in a similar boat. I ordered my MacBook on the 22nd and the expected ship date was 29th with a delivery by 7th September.

Today I got the dreaded email saying shipment had been delayed to September 7th, though no delivery date was quoted.

Looking at the order status on Apple.com, the dates have been updated. Get this; delivery date of 19TH SEPTEMBER! Thats almost a month to when I ordered!

I cant believe Apple could possibly misread demand during back to school season so badly. This service just isnt good enough. All that interest they are collecting too on the millions theyve taken from peoples accounts.

Im pissed off to say the least.

Im thinking of cancelling the order and purchasing in store.

Only thing is I really need an 80gb hard drive with my MacBook. Does anybody know if retail stores stock anything other than the base models? I'd have thought they would stock at the very least some MacBooks with bigger hard drives.

My problem is that the order status on Apple.com says the 24th, I haven't received any email to say that it had changed, although at one point the dates did change on my order status to the 5th Sep. then back to the 29th of Aug.

I ordered on the 20th, and am going to Uni at the end of September and I want to get used to OSX before I go 🙁

I'm really not sure what to do, why hasn't my order status changed? I wouldn't be so bothered if I had a date in the future for it to ship, but it has been and gone 🙁

I have a slightly different problem. I am in the UK and I ordered a MBP (BTO with 100gb 7200 hdd), apple said it would ship on the 28th and be with me on sept 5th. I then received an email saying that it had shipped on the 25th but wasn't due to arrive until the 7th. So I don't know what has happened there.

Yeh, my replacement MacBook which is on priority one (as if that actually means anything...) was going to be shipped around the 24th August but they said 4th to me now.

I'm kinda liking the conspiracy of the Meroms, as they said to me that the delay was due to "material shortage" - now, that could mean they havn't got the Meroms in yet...

But yeh, it's probably not actually Meroms, just nice to speculate!

As an investor, I'm outraged. Apple has gone to great lengths to get you college hipsters to switch. And now you're going to be stranded at college without a computer. You'll have to schlep your books down to the computer lab where there will be a sea of shiny brand new Dells, and you'll think: Dell, maybe I should have gotten a Dell. You'll get used to Office on the PC and think yeah, I should just stick with a PC.

However, as an Apple enthusiast, I am saddened to see that this is the first Apple experience for many of you. This happened once to me with a Cube. It took over a month for my Cube to arrive. There was a promotion on memory at the time. You had to send in the UPC to get your rebate. By the time my cube had arrived it was too late to send in the UPC even though I had purchased it in the right time frame, and I called CS and they said they cannot control shipping etc, and I never got my satisfaction. In my instance it wasn't with Apple delaying the shipment. It was something freaky with customs in Alaska..forget the details....

But as an enthusiast, I am also hopeful that these delays indicate C2D soon!

Right well I have just called Apple, and they told me I should have received an email (which I haven't!!) and that they are 'experiencing a unexpected amount of orders on the MacBook causing a backlog'.

He told me the shipping date is still the 24th, and was obviously confused as to why that was, but told me that they expecting MacBooks to be shipping today or tomorrow (we will wait and see about that). My delivery has been upgraded to the highest priority as well. No refund though!!!!

My macbook was supposed to ship on the 29th of augustus. Now it is scheduled for shipping on 7 september.

Due to problems with ordening (my university send Apple a typical B2B order form) and lack of control (I was on vacation, colleagues were on vacation, the Apple salesperson was on vacation) over the process at my end, I have been waiting for my Apple since the day after they were announced.
It turned out that the Apple salesperson did nothing with the order form they received. And now I changed it to a personal order, it gets delayed.
So that is what, 3 months now that I am waiting?
I am the laughing stock now of my group.
This delay better be due to merom.
I am in Europe. Will shouting at the phone get me something extra? Or do I risk missing out on merom because they bump me up on the delivery line.

I am very close to giving up on the damned thing and just install linux on a dell. Any sane person would not have so patient. Damn you Apple for the software you make. I don't want to do without.

Well I cancelled my online order and went straight to the Apple Store on Regent St, London to pick up a MacBook there. Luckily I was eligible for the full 14% student discount (most Universities only get 6% if bought in store), rendering my booking online pointless when I could get it in store. Picked up the 80gb HD, 1GB Ram, SuperDrive, 2.0Ghz model. Should have been £1,029 at regular prices but with the discount it amounted to £850.

As for the machine; FANTASTIC. It absolutely destroys my iBook. Its difficult to tell from pictures but when one is in your hand and the light in your room reflects off the hinge below the screen, you know you have bought quality. MagSafe is awesome. The screen is light years ahead of the matte iBook one. I have zero reflection on it unless the screen goes dark. Its just wonderful.

Speed wise, its very fast. Scored around 96 on Xbench, whereas my iBook scored 24. The bench score of 100 is based on a Power Mac dual 2.0 G5. So im very happy with this machine.

And the keyboard! Had my reservations at first but it is immense. The Sony guys really are onto a winner with this style. I can type much quicker and typos have been reduced significantly as its harder to miss your target key.

Delicious Library + built in iSight = goodness.

Overall, im thrilled. to those who are waiting up to a month for an online order, seriously consider getting it from an Appe store. Even poneying up for a higher model. I just couldnt wait.

Did I mention its gorgeous?

Ordered a refurb stock black Macbook on Tuesday due to ship on 8th Sept & arrive 13th Sept.

Hope that's the case because I'm off to Uni on the 16th 😱

What time do you think factories usually ship their stuff? 8am?

because China is 13 hours ahead of our Pacific time zone meaning that it is about 6am there right now. Therefore, if my prediction is correct, the shipping status should change in a mere 2 hours or possibly less.

Does that sound reasonable?

frustration

I ordered my black mb with a 1gb memory upgrade and a 100gb hard drive upgrade on August 18th. On the date of purchase Apple said they would ship it by the 24th. Then they changed the shipment day to the 31st. I called and bitched them out about it and they gave me $50. Today is the 31st and there are still no signs that it has shipped. I know there is a high demand, but this is getting to be ridiculous.

Totally agreed, one more delay and i'm cancelling and waiting for merom. Plus the fact that there is a website dedicated to random shutdowns is really worrisome.

You do know that the complaining public about random shutdowns is a small minority 🙂 People dont usually jump up and down if their MB works perfectly

**** I had thought that my macbook shipped but the mother****er hasn't shipped yet. Why is Apple ****ing with us? Surely the demand : Supply ratio can't be 100:1. AAAAAAAAAAAAAH

I called Apple to try cancel my order so I could go to their store here in San Antonio, but they said the iPod that I already received (and opened) would not qualify for the college student rebate regarding the iPod. SO ****!
