On the LA Craigslist, I see several 38mm sports for $500, but most of the listings are much higher.

It's Apple's fault for not producing enough to meet initial demand.

It's up to Apple to control the secondary market they create. Supply/Demand and opportunity… how can you blame people for not taking opportunities? I wouldn't do it, but if I was hurting for money I'd sure consider it.

This!!!
I totally agree. I think the online process has made this whole scalping atmosphere far worst.

Always have to stay strong, the  lust is strong in this one.

Actually, yeah you are right, that wasn't too terrible.

$100 more than MSRP or $100 over the MSRP + tax?

We all love our gadgets. Admitting you have a problem is the first step.

Congrats!

Smart move. Almost none of those have shipped out it seems.
$100 more than MSRP + Tax. The more I read around the more it seems $100 more is a very, very good deal for getting it this early lol.

Yeah really not too bad. I'm glad I was up when preorders went live and got mine Friday.

Couldn't wait till May 13, canceled order, bought a SS with black sport band on craigslist for around 100$ extra. Gonna order my link band later.
God damn, I hate the thought that I supported the scalping business

I don't believe this.

Not that you bought a watch from a scalper, but that you only paid $100 extra.

You must've paid more than just $100 over retail.

A lot more.

Don't hate the people who choose to take advantage of a little concept called supply and demand. It's a very simple concept

I would think twice about paying resale on these. I know the hype is big right now and the shortage is insane but you might regret paying resale real quick. It's nice but not resale nice. It's not an iPhone or iPad like thrill.

I was able to find a sport watch for $97 over retail w/ tax( $350  watch sport, plus $28 tax at least here, listing is for $475). We have two Apple stores here so you have to pay sales tax even if ordered online.

It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that the OP found that kind of deal. Are they the norm? No, but there are a few out there.

Kansas City area.

Don't feel bad! You paid a little extra to get the product you want sooner. It's still covered by warranty and you got a kick ass watch before many others.

The most important financial lesson you can learn is how to say no to yourself.

Looks like you're still working on that one.

Meh, I just told myself I'd work two extra hours this week. :p

It's actually a pretty good deal.

I lined up at Maxfield (for 9 damn hours). I'd like to think my time was worth more than minimum wage :( .

The woman standing in front me of paid $250 just for a spot closer in line. Still took her 4 hours and in the end she didn't get the watch she wanted.

Ignore the "holier-than-thou" responses. I don't blame you. I shopped craigslist, etc. myself because I ordered all of 6 minutes after launch, and who knows when I'll get it. Apple says by May 8th, but whatever. I didn't find any for just $100 over, or I for sure would have bought one. I did make offers of $120-$150 over, and no takers...

It's Apple's fault for not producing enough to meet initial demand.

My wife got her watch on the 24th. I ordered hers after mine, and it came in on the 24th. She did NOT like it. She was ready to take it back.

Well, like an idiot, I taught her how to use it, and now she likes it.

I say idiot, because i could have either 1) worn it myself until mine arrived or 2) sold it for a profit.

I would have ZERO issues with selling it for a $100 profit. It's not illegal. I didn't buy it just for the purpose of scalping either. And honestly, I'm not really bothered by those who do buy for scalping. It's up to Apple to control the secondary market they create. Supply/Demand and opportunity… how can you blame people for not taking opportunities? I wouldn't do it, but if I was hurting for money I'd sure consider it.

Congrats! I've been following your posts. Glad you finally got it.

I thought you had ordered the SS BSB though?

I did but it wasn't wanting to ship and I became impatient haha plus I didn't want to wait until June to get a Milanese loop so two birds one stone

Just enjoy it . If it's worth an extra $100 to you , so be it.

Every shop you go to is a scalper. They buy stock and sell it to you for 2.5 times what they paid for it. It's called business.

You got a watch you wanted when you wanted it. Good for you. The seller made a profit. Good for him. It's win:win.

Who loses?

You should sell it for more profit man! :)

I had the 42mm SW with WS and decided it wasn't for me, so sold it for £450/$687 - I was happy with the profit, they were happy to have the watch. He himself had sold his 38mm for profit to pay for mine, having decided it was too small!

I know right? Impatient people like me sigh. Ashamed ashamed :/
On the other hand I get to play with it on my wrist almost a month in advance :B

You need to wear that shame... on your wrist!! :D

Scalping is a strong business. We can disagree with it but it does provide service of having something for a premium vs having nothing.

I don't disagree with "scalpers" (or as someone above pointed out; "entrepreneurs") - far from it. They're just trying to make a living. Nothing wrong with that.

I just can't fathom folks who are unable to exercise a modicum of self-control. The watch is already expensive as it is. In a month or two it will be everywhere - so why the rush?

It just seems like a way to make an even bigger mistake if you don't like the watch. Do scalpers offer full refunds?

Ive been checking the kansas city/topeka area the past few days, there are some decent deals, most being in kc as i have yet to find one in topeka

I agree Apple should do something about scalping, and they have done so to the best of their ability.

The problem with any crazy restrictions is that legitimate buyers will be harmed. Like the idea of not being able to transfer a watch for 90 days. What if someone bought it for a family member? Or what if someone decided to use it for a few weeks, and then upon not liking it they wanted to give their [insert any next of kin] a shot?

I think limiting orders to 2 per household/credit card is probably the best they can do. At least you don't have a retail release with unrestricted buying like with the iPhone, where one man in a van could collect 100 of them per day while regular buyers weren't able to get any.

I know they said they might not do this for every launch but the system they have in place now is pretty damn good. I hope they use it for the iPhone launch as well (take online orders only for the first 30 days).

Another thing Apple could do is scalp themselves. Have a "premium pre-order window" where for an extra fee you could pre-order before everyone else and ensure you get your unit ASAP. Then after a week of such pre-orders, open it up to everyone else at the regular price and whatever shipping times that may happen.

That would ensure that people who don't mind paying more to have it now (from scalpers at this time) would buy legitimately from Apple. Scalpers would also be taking a much larger risk buying at a premium as it would lower their profit margins considerably.

And if they waited until it was open to everyone else, the most common buyers who were willing to pay scalped prices would already have their units.

If you the worst thing you get from buying an Apple product on Craigslist is ripped off by $100 consider yourself lucky. Around here people are jumped/beaten/robbed on a regular basis when conducting Craigslist transactions for cell phones and video game systems. The local police departments are even suggesting you meet in their lobbies to conduct CL transactions.

Be careful out there. As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of CL.

Well that's fine. But why are you confessing here on this forum of all places?

Er...um...say 25 Hail Steves and go your way and sin no more...

Feel better, now? :p

Congrats and enjoy your new Apple Watch. I hope it works out great for you.
