Hia,

Well, as far as the stability of the case in any of the functional possitions, you have got no chance. I've looked over this case a lot now and Noreve has used two magnets in the back of the case (you can see them just about on the back shots of the case, raising their ugly heads :() that are supposed to stop the front cover from sliding when in possition, it fails every time, well it was never going to work really, I have no idea what Noreve we're thinking it must be the weather.

Vertical and desk positions do not work, period. So sorry to have to tell you this but you would be wasting your money big time if you needed this functionality.

I've calmed down now, I've massaged some of the creases out, well, sort of and I will just use the case for basic protection.

Noreve have sent one of their quick emails asking for photographs, which I've sent. I've told them to offer me a proper detailed response about the materials used and the poor workmanship not a single sentance reply.

Well, I've got my iPad to make things better :)

Hi there Colophon -

yikes, what a horrible experience! I am so sorry this has gone so poorly :( and yes, at least your trusty 'Pad does what you want it to, which I also find helps when sometimes other things seem to not go the way I wished!

Although this sounds a bit odd, I thank you again for reporting on the actual performance of the case. I will still be interested if Noreve has anything further to say about this -- if they address it at all......

Thanks a bunch for posting the pictures, the seam that's coming loose and it failing to function as a stand are complete deal breakers. If they'd have shipped mine just a few days later I would have had time to cancel the order I think. However, I predict I'll be returning mine when it arrives. I'll post about my own experiences with it when I have it in my hands.

My Norêve case is working well in raising the iPad at a slight angle when in landscape mode. The magnets in the case help keep it stable.

If I want it to stand in more upright position (again landscape) I can achieve this too, but the iPad is not as stable and needs a surface which is not too slippery. Great for viewing movies.

Standing the unit upright in portrait mode is very easy and is stable.

In none of these scenarios do I need to use the catch to increase stability.

IMHO is is about what you expect from a case! If I wanted absolute stability in a raised or elevated position I would have bought one of the stands available for the iPad. The Norêve case does a good job in propping up the iPad in various positions. It does more than I expected when I ordered it.

The weight of the iPad in the case is 1084g, that's around 2lb 6ozs.

I'm glad you have had a better experience than me with this case, seriously I am, the last thing I wanted was to have Noreve let me down. Maybe it's just me begin fussy, the thing is this quality is not the Noreve of 4 years ago, back then the quality was that of a case 3 4 times the price, the same quality as Mulbery and other high end cases. This ipad noreve case is just not that same quality. :)

@sgcf

thanks

can you comment on how stable your case is in the typing stand position?

If you mean like on the Norêve website, 25 or so degrees from horizontal, I would say it is perfectly stable and I tend to use it in that position most of the time.

Colophon - all I wanted was something like the Apple case, but made of a nicer material. The Norêve case fulfills that role admirably.

Which case finish did you buy? Maybe there is a bigger problem with the 'bespoke' ones.

Hia,

I've got rid of my frustration now and got a response from Noreve to see some pics before they go any further. Here are the ones I've taken. It is so difficult to appreciate how uneven the leather really is in person, these photos don't do it justice, white is not a good colour. Photos tend to even out the way it really looks because of the exposure. :(

I’ve spent 2 hours massaging the leather to get the creases out, some of them look better now so I guess I’ll keep it save messing about posting it back and getting another case in the mean time, better than being out of pocket.

These are the shots of just got off my camera real, funny, it look really nice  in these because the contrast has washed out the uneven leather. :)

Sorry to disappoint some of you. Like I say, maybe I have a dodgy one and all the others are fine. I think they had it in for me keep asking them about the delivery.

Good luck with your versions, hope this helps some of you.

Sorry to hear about you case Colophon. I haven't had the same problems you've described. Actually, I've managed to get my case to stand upright stable now without any problems. It's not as stable as a solid stand, but it works out quite well.

Hello from Australia.

I just ordered a Noreve iPad Tradition case after doing a lot of homework and reading all the discussion in this forum. Thanks for the advice.

I used the promotion code referred to early in the forum :) and it still works so if you want 15% off, go for it!

Hiya FCDP -

Thanks for checking back in -- I remember your extensive report & photos a few pages back, so am curious to know what you have done to overcome the initial issues... particularly the necessity of having to invert the strap to get the case to stand up.
My main concern about this case is stability, when it is standing up & when it is being used as a typing stand; if it is not stable enough while it's standing up to resist being knocked over, when I touch the screen with some pressure, I don't think I'll feel happy with needing to be so very careful not to knock it down.
So -- any new thoughts about this now?
Many thanks!

Noreve have said they will get a new case to me in 15 days

Hia,

After contacting Noreve with a mail full of genuine disappointment about the state of my case they have just emailed back with a short mail saying they will get a new case to me in less than 15 days. :)

I sent the photo's of the case to them on their request and they basically haven’t said their case was faulty but quickly offered a new case, I think that says it all.

To be honest I thanked them very much and requested changing the case to the Sleeve in another colour, red or something just so I've got something worthy of a review that doesn’t have any functionality that can go wrong. Who knows what I will get this time, probably the same thing. Ar well, at least they were good enough to offer sending a new case, you don’t get that much no days.

I’ll keep you posted with how this pans out. Really hope you all get quality cases when you get them, maybe mine was a Friday night project.

Good for you, Colophon! :)

Just thought of this - I wonder why they don't dispatch you one of the stock cases that they gave on hand, rather than a delay of another 15 days? The stock ones are only in black, as I recall, so if you requested to get one that's not black, I would understand the delay..
Apart from the color & texture of the leather, I most want to know how successfully the design functions stability-wise, so am hopeful to hear any further comments about this from current owners like FCDP & scgp ---
Thanks everyone -

Note that their site currently shows the perpetual black case out of stock until the 16th but the way I understand their response was that they'd send him another white one.

Had reply, and they say I can have red sleeve if I want

Just had a reply from Noreve and they say I can have a sleeve in red if i want, Might be more than 2 weeks but who cares. They said I can have black by the end of next week but I fancy red, and I've waited this long I might as well get something a bit different to review.

Well if Noreve keep to their word and the new case Is any good I'll be happy I guess. Well these days you never get an offer to replace a product, fair play.

I'm really enjoying my Noreve case. As I've used it over time it's become quite easy to prop up in whatever position I need.

I do have a tip for anyone using this case. I was initially concerned about the top two corners of my ipad and the fact that they aren't as protected as the rest of the device. I found a solution that works out pretty good. I'd ordered a protective film set for my HTC EVO (Phantom Skinz) and used small pieces of extra material to cut out small strips to cover each corner on the top of my ipad. They are almost completely invisible but will provide some extra protection. Only had to use strips about 2mm wide and about an inch long to cover the rounded portion of the corners.

So you can actually put it in landscape mode and use the thing? It won't fall over by pressing on it?

Yeah, I find that in most instances I have it in my lap so the material from my clothes or whatever is enough to keep the flap from sliding so it stays up in whatever postion I want it. At work the flat/landscape angle for typing works well - I've yet to use it in the tall/landscape position for video on any kind on a slick surface so it's never been an issue.

Perfect case

i've received mine (in dark vintage) two days ago (ordered on 11th of May) and I am amazed by the quality of the leather and finish.
The case stands perfectly in landscape position, both for typing (around 30d angle) and for viewing movies (not far from 90 d angle), for the latter position, after locking the magnet ( in the inverted position), the edge of the case (the one with pockets) needs to lay exactly under the start of the leather tab, this way you will have a very firm stand. i hope this helps.

Great to hear that! Cuz I ordered dark vintage too! :D Not shipped yet. Could you post some photos?

Yes, if possible, could you take some close-up photos of the tab, & how the case is arranged in order to be very firm when standing up for watching videos? The main reason I have not yet ordered this case is because I'm not convinced that it will stand up firmly, and not be vulnerable to being tipped over quite easily if I touch the screen while it's standing upright...in BOTH the landscape & portrait orientation. And thanks much for your description!

Same here. I can't have the thing falling over in the middle of a presentation.
