is this a joke?

the point of what apple is doing is showing what the 4 has OVER/CHANGES/IN CONTRAST over the 3GS.

Basically it is saying," We have white in the iPhone 4, their is no white in 3GS".

Webmaster or whoever screwed up.

The white iPhone 3GS is discontinued. That's also why they only have 8GB 3GS listed. They are only making the black 8GB 3GS now.

I would speculate that this is the most improvement we have seen and will see for the next two years in the iphone since its inception..

The iphone 4 and iOS4 bring alot to the table including the new design of which I am a huge fan. Assuming that all goes well for this model and no major design flaws are noted, then I would suspect that next years update will not be so "revolutionary." If the 3g's 3gs followup is anything to go by, then I would guess that the next update will include minor speed bumps, camera and battery improvements, possibly an enhancement in the display or durability of the screen, and most noticeably a 4g radio. Knowing Apple, some sort of software addition is likely as well.

I would then suspect iphone 5 (assuming the next is dubbed iphone 4g) to once again wow customers with a plethora of new features - including an expansion to another major carrier in the U.S. assuming it has not happened up to this point. Therefore, I would say that jumping in on iphone 4 would ultimately be a good decision, especially sooner than later as therefore contract renewal will become in sync with the release of future iphone models. Just some thoughts.

When You're #1, People HATE

Apple is number one as far as customer satisfaction, design, and quality. When you are at the top, a lot of people want to bring you down. I feel like a lot of people that talk bad about the iPhone are people that more than likely have never owned an iPhone, and went the Android route or the Blackberry route.

When they see something they can't have (contract obligated to a different carrier) they try to make themselves feel better by knocking the iPhone down a few pegs to make themselves feel better that they're not going to own one. Now this is definitely not true about everyone, but I GUARANTEE its the truth for a lot of trolls.

I currently use the 3g, so this will be the best upgrade for me. If I had a 3gs, I would keep it for a while, or maybe wait for the white one.

Each iteration of the iPhone have had what seems to be minor upgrades. This one is no different. If you don't need to have the latest and greatest iPhone then don't upgrade. Going from 3G to 4 is a pretty huge upgrade.

True, but that being said, the 3G to the 3GS wasn't that big of a jump, so I feel the iPhone 4, with the retina display and high def video recording, let alone a whole new design, is a huge upgrade for any iphone user.

If the iphone 4 is a "minor upgrade," what in the name of god are you waiting for? I can honestly say, once I have mine, I don't know that I'll feel the need to upgrade for a few years. This is probably the FIRST time I've been completely satisfied with an Apple upgrade.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

OP, I am thinking about passing on iPhone 4 too - I also have a 3gs and am only eligible for the $399 pricing.

The features that might get me to upgrade are battery and antenna. If the battery life really provides 10 hours of actual use, wow. Probably even more important is the antenna, even tho nobody is talking about it. I drop way too many calls with my 3gs these days. If iPhone 4 fixes that, it would be huge.

So just curious what is this "5.8-Mbps HSUPA" 3gs doesn't have it what kind of practical difference will there be with this added.

afaik, HSUPA is for uploading, so it means uploading stuff like video should be much quicker, which ties in with the HD video recording capabilities....

And its also true that you fanboys go looking for "trolling" where there often isnt any. Someone posts a concern here, they're attacked. Someone lists features they want their iPhone to have, they're attacked. Etc Etc. The only thing worse for a forum than trolls is rabid fanboys attempting to control the flow of conversations.

Years? 4G will be around next year and by all accounts it blows away the speeds we're seeing via 3G on ATT. And with those increased speeds you'll probably see Facetime open up to cellular support too. I'm thinking next years iPhone is going to be the one to own, and the one after that will be the equivalent of the lackluster 3GS release.

At WWDC, Steve Jobs mentioned that there were over 100 new features on the new iPhone 4. he went thru 8 of those features during the presentation, so there are still at least 92 more features that we are not aware of yet.

Well, hardware-wise:

- New display with IPS and LED Backlight
- Rear camera of 5 mp and flash, 720p video recording
- 1Ghz A4 chip, double the RAM (developers can use this for better apps)
- Front facing camera, video chatting
- Gyroscope
- 802.11n WiFi (highspeed WiFi)
- New design which also functions as an atenna
- Second mic for noice cancellation
- Microsim
- Way better battery

The new processor and the double RAM could really come in handy. iMovie can't even run on the iPad, but it does on iPhone 4. I can even remember the time that computers had only 512 MB of RAM and a >1 Ghz processor.

The iMac I'm using now had 512 MB RAM when we bought it four years ago. We thought that was awesome when we got it (though we've upgraded to the 2 GB max, since). This much RAM on a phone is pretty slick.

He meant in iOS4. And we know about them. Many of them are of the Ho-hum yawn variety.

ATT won't be rolling out 4G until 2012. So, either get the iPhone 4 and you can upgrade to 4G in two years, or you can wait for Apple to role out the iPhone to a competing service that may offer 4G earlier.

My point is, don't wait for next year's model thinking it may be 4G compatible. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, but there won't be any ATT 4G for it to use.

ATT's 4G LTE network is slated to come online 2011.

I meant the iPhone 4, not the OS.

If you watch the keynote presentation again, Steve says there are over 100 new features and that he is only covering 8 of them. Watch the presentation again, it is on the Apple site and it is just past the 30 min mark.

<nevermind> most features will be driven by the OS.

It's a pretty substantial upgrade.

The only things missing are:

64GB option

GPU upgrade - Although still not confirmed what it's going to use, maybe that got an upgrade too?

Everything else got an upgrade and it's amazing that the phone got slimmer and sleeker in the process.

The OS is a huge part of the phone. He was referring to the changes in the OS as much as the changes to the phone. What I found to be amusing is that the majority of the "upgrades" are so mundane and lame that they could only come up with 8 of them to focus on, and a couple of those were lame themselves.

I do consider this the largest upgrade since the original iphone. and it is very difficult for me to understand how people can think anything less...

But after I thought about it some I guess I can see some argument. This iPhone doesn't bring anything new per se it just upgrades everything.

iphone 3G
new 3G network! much better, faster, and simultaneous data and talk
new GPS! very clearly a huge brand new feature over the original iPhone
new 16GB

iphone 3GS
new ability to record videos!
new voice commands!
new 32GB

iphone 4
new front facing camera!
new... uh..

and the front facing camera isn't really something that the average person really sees a huge need for. especially because you need 2 iphone 4's to make it work.

don't get me wrong, I still think this is by FAR the best upgrade to the iphone. IMO, I picked the best upgrade times with getting the 3G first and now the 4. I wouldn't have done it any other way. But I can see how in some peoples mind this doesn't bring much new to the table. just upgraded screen, upgraded camera, upgraded RAM, upgraded design, upgraded battery.

But i'm still going to be in heaven come June 25th :) (I'm traveling so I'll be getting it a day late)
