FYI: that bricked the 2G version

Well the process which I mentioned is fairly common these days for all wireless carriers, I see no reason why I should not able to use a standard upgrade on an available line of service. If I walked into today and wanted to purchase the LG VU for instance on the line which is eligible and then sim swap not a single att employee would tell me I am unable to do that.

Wait... people actually believe that email to genuine? HAH!

A supposed corporate email to managers uses terms like "ill-na-na" and "bang $500 on your credit card" and you think it's real? Dude...

I am a Retail Sales Associate at a Company Owned Retail store and I am saying that the memo is real. Believe me if you will or don't. lol btw like the Picard pic

My desire is to get a new iPhone as each new model is introduced. I plan to get this one, then a year later say, another new one. I have no idea where this leaves someone like me.

And BTW - $35 for data/texts is just plain too much money. Same goes for any provider. Overkill. How much is T-Mobile though? A savings?

Scroll down and you can read the actual written document which is said to be in the AT&T knowledge base by an AT&T rep on another board I frequent and is also confirmed by a user in this very thread to say the exact same thing.

AT&T Internal Document said:
However, all postpaid 2G iPhone customers in good standing are upgrade eligible, so these customers will qualify to upgrade to a 3G iPhone when it is available.

That sounds positive, however.

Thanks... but nah. I can print a copy and hold it too. I've spent too many years working in technology corporations to believe something as immaturely written (not to mention vulgar) is anything but a fake, or at least edited and/or augmented.

The 3G iPhone has a different activation process still than any other phone. There is a tether program that will be used to activate the phone both on iTunes and on AT&T's network. You can do that with the VU and other phones, but that still doesn't mean that your not breaching the Terms and Conditions of the agreement. Anyway, the bricking was the prevention of doing exactly what people did: sell the iPhone overseas. BTW we cannot put the data plan on the account that you will be using it on until after activation and most reps won't do that. So I dunno. Never hurts to try I just dont want you to have a $200 or $300 unusable brick lol

Vulgar? hah Immature? have you even seen the memo?

bah... never mind. The portion I was focusing on that was so poorly produced was from The Boy Genius' synopsis, not the email. So the post was vulgar and full of typos, immaturity and ignorant grammatical errors, not the email itself.

Thanks RasaFrasa.

Sorry... Mets are beating Brandon Webb and the Diamondbacks. I'm in a very good mood.

Also, I'm not interested... ;)

So here is my deal, I have a blackberry curve I got for $50 without a data plan, If I go in to my AT&T store, and tell them I want a new phone and upgrade my plan, can they say no, or charge me a higher price?

I'd like to think not, because I am getting my iPhone I've waited a year to get one, and now I'd like my phone with a data plan thank you very much...

Please don't hold me to my word on any of the following because it is subject to change and some of it is speculation.
[1]Yes. In our systems if you are still on an iPhone plan that is sufficient enough evidence for a manager to override any problems that may occur.

[3]No, it does not matter that you are still on the old iPhone contract b/c essentially it is your phone and you only signed an agreement to keep the plan not the phone. The reason why someone would not be able to upgrade is because they received the subsidized price for a phone and it has not been 18 mths. The 2G iPhone was in no way subsidized. The iPhone 3G is.
I hope that answered your questions.

What occurs in this following situation...?
I will be a first time at&t customer. I just bought a used iphone. I will be activating it today. Would I be eligible for the upgrade?

Interestingly enough, when I look at my account, it says I'm not eligible for an upgrade until February of '09. I signed up on June 29th, 2007 and bought the 8gb iPhone at the original price as a first-time ATT customer. I left Verizon to get the phone.

I guess this kind of situation is what they mean when they say that "current 2G iphone customers will be "made eligible" when the new iPhone is available."

Your fine. There should be no problem with getting the new iPhone.

That is what I am uncertain about. From speculation there should be no reason why you should worry. I'll check with my manager on that one.

Yes. In our billing system, it officially shows any iPhone user as being eligible to upgrade in the store. I've never went online and seen a subscriber's account.

Thanks, I would be greatly appreciate if you could let me know. I have been holding off on activating my iphone to have that 30 day window when July 11th hits.

It shouldn't matter who the original owner of the iphone is, or does it?
