not sure I see the point in waiting for the 2022 MBA

The MacRumors Buyer's Guide currently says that buying a 2020 MacBook Air right now requires "Caution" because an upgraded model has been rumored for 2022.

However, after reading the "round-up" on the rumored upgrades, I do not actually see what the big deal is.

- aesthetic changes ; who cares?
- mini LED screen ; whats wrong with the current screens on the MBA?
- M2 CPU ; the M1 is already plenty fast, battery life is already plenty long
- magsafe? Is it getting this? That would be nice but not a deal breaker

This rumored update seems like a big old nothingburger to me. Why even bother waiting for this? My current MB is dying so I ordered the 2020 MBA anyway but I keep looking at all these 2022 updates and do not understand what the hype is about or why I should have waited for it.

Also, release date? "Maybe late Q2 2022, or Q3-Q4 2022"; so basically no one knows if it will come out in 3 months or in 10 months?

a fresh design is most welcome indeed but I agree it's not so important after all.

a better display would be cool for watching HDR videos (I shoot in HDR10+) and movies ,since I don't have a TV I'd very much like that.

although I doubt mini-led will come to the MacBook air tbh.

the keyboard being thinner might be worse than current too.

magsafe is important to me as it means that they will most likely let us have 2 usb-c ports...one of which I currently use for charging lol!(bit then again I have a hub so when I am at home on monitor I just plug the HDMI hub into one usb-c port anyway so wouldn't make a difference )

for the record : I went from MBA M1 to mbp 14 then mbp16 ...and I'm now willing to return the 16 ,however I would want the MBA m2 ,and it's not out yet ,so dunno what to do ,lol

I mean you could say the same about any rumoured new hardware. Why get excited about the iPhone 14 - I mean all it's gonna have is a better screen, better design, better battery, better performance why would I want any of that when my 13 works just fine? etc etc

It sounds like you personally need a new computer now not months from now, so the current get MBA is a great choice and it totally makes sense for you.

But if you didn't need one right now (which is a category I fit into) it makes a lot of sense to wait to see what Apple comes up with later this year. I could get at least 10-15% 'more' computer for probably about the same money, my 2020 MBA runs well enough for now, why wouldn't I wait?

• Aesthetic changes are something I wouldn't mind seeing. Compared to newer designs (14", 16") the MBA looks dated and we could fit more screen into the same foot print with a new design.
• Mini LED is brighter and more efficient, no reason to not include one if their production lines are already geared to make this variety of display
• M2 probably the same as any generational upgrade on a CPU - performance and efficiency bump, so another case of "may as well". Sometimes I notice my base M1 struggles a little with certain demanding tasks, so I wouldn't say no to a speed boost.
• I think MagSafe is here to stay, its a great feature and it free's up a USB-C port for non-power stuff. I'd love to see a USB-C port on both sides of the Air, just to give it some more flexibility when it comes to docking etc.

i doubt mini led will come to the air(typicaly air waits 3-years to get pro stuff.also miniled is thicker ) ,but we shall see.if it doesn itll surely increase the price....nay change its position in the lineup completeley and not be called air anymore

m2 selling point for me is the improved battery and effiiceny,a15 is rly amazing and does wonders in ip14 ,battery having greatly imporved
