Notch versus Pill+Hole

The useless screen space above & between the pill and the hole seem very distracting to me, much more so than the notch.
Looks like there's bugs or debris on the screen.
And....................shouldn't the "pill" be called "the capsule"?

Well, I own a lot of PowerPC and early Intel Macs, so it's relative. :)

of course it's relative

the oldest system i still own and fire up from time to time is an Amiga 500
in some circles it is, and always will be iconic, while most people probably just see some very old outdated technology

Huh? I haven’t seen many people, perhaps the odd person every now and again, wear a mask all year. I haven’t put one on since December last year.

Also, Apple pretty much fixed FaceID with a mask as I was using my 12 Mini just fine after the mask update.

The Amiga 500 is definitely iconic. I have the original Mac with an ‘84 serial number which I still use on occasion. It’s the one I have as my avatar. I would definitely consider that to be iconic too given that it’s the first Mac and the grandfather of the iMac.

The option to use it for 2FA would also be great too, especially for banking apps.

I have an iPhone X and I will continue to wear a mask where I believe its necessary. My work environment also, I need to wear one. No further details.

Pill + hole is pretty busy, especially if the screen is brightly lit around and between them.
That's my dislike of the single "floating" pill as well, it becomes too prominent.

Absolutely. I get disagreement every time I say it but I absolutely think the notch on the phone, let alone the latest computer screens is such a silly compromise requiring over engineering in the interface/software side of things and is absolutely a visual distraction. It still is for me and some day they don’t even notice it so that’s fine for them but it absolutely bugs enough people Apple is clearly trying to reduce it with a potential redesign.

pill + hole is not (in my mind) a reduction.

They won’t, but it would be cool to have a choice.

I don’t really mind either.

But I do actually prefer the pill + punch hole over just the elongated pill.

They actually probably will, the 14 will likely have a notch while the 14 Pro will have the pill+ punch
 
What if the bezel was uniform like the iPad lineup?
