Finally! New Power Macs! But I guess this means no 3 GHz... :(

I'm busy looking for a clue in this post to conclude the same as you do.. "that means no 3 GHz"..

still looking though..

one more thing

AAPL is at a 52 week high today. The street knows something. They'll sell off tomorrow after the announcement.

i am starting to wonder if instead of having a ton of stuff announced at a Stevenote, Apple is going to continue the trend and announce a ton of stuff just BEFORE a Stevenote so that Steve can then remind everyone how amazing apple is by a "look what we have done in the past XX time" kind of thing. I am sure there will still be some major stuff at WWDC but the days of everything being announced at a keynotes are long gone, whihc is fine with me

having said that weeks like this are reasons i love being a mac user - excitement! anticipation! erm....karma!

I have a feeling that if Apple is releasing the PM's tomorrow, they will not reach the 3Ghz mark. Think about it, WWDC is a big event and Steve doesn't want something to spoil the show. Annoncing 2.4 or 2.6 Ghz G5's would spoil the atmosphere there. I really belive that he would have waited till WWDC to show off the new machines if they had hit the 3Ghz mark. This way the release can be less dramatic, and he can avoid any possible embarassment at the big event. After all, it isn't every day that Steve doesn't live up to a promise that he's made openly to the entire Mac community. WWDC will likely center around Tiger, which sort of makes sense as thats more relevant to developers. Perhaps there will be a new iMac of some sort.

I agree, although he hasn't broken his promise yet anyway. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere doesn't technically end until September 22nd. ;)

OK then... Apple will update its lineup to 20GB, 30GB, and 40GB.
And to be more competetive, all iPods will be $100 cheaper, including the iPod Mini.

Doubtful. Only a fool would slash prices on a product that is selling well.

anybody notice on apple.com whoever made the layout forgot to to set border=0 around the linked images of airport express? i'm sure they'll fix that soon but god the site looks ugly right now because of it. i'll be shocked if apple releases new powermacs tomorrow. i could understand new imacs since they're consumer level, but not waiting till wwdc to debut the new powermacs would be a bit odd. also, i won't update to itunes 4.6 until hymn supports it.

I thought it was interesting what Mr Jobs said, with regards to an iPod/iTunes in car solution.

The third place is in the car -- right now the solutions out there aren't very good but we are working with some folks on that

Now that does open up some possibilities... ;)

Now all I need is a wireless remote to go through this thing to control iTunes from another floor entirely. Would be nice if it could control things like volume on the stereo too...

Personally I would be disappointed if they didn't make the 3GHz PowerMac soon. It was a promise that was publically made. Now I am aware of yield issues in early January but after all this time, I am sure they must have sorted the problems out. IBM is without doubt the most advanced cpu manufacturer around with the most advanced fabs. If Apple had made that promise with Moto I would have taken it with a grain of salt and would not be inclined to hold them to their promises. But this is IBM's baby and they don't make promises lightly. My guess we will see 3GHz. I also don't think we will see them tomorrow and if there is a PowerMac tomorrow it most certainly won't be 3GHz. A 3GHz machine would be hot talk for WWDC. Also the iMac is not considered a developer machine/developer line, so for a lot of attendee's at WWDC a G5 iMac would not be as significant as a PowerMac update. My guess is that tomorrow we will see 1.5GHz G4's in iMac's with 3GHz PowerMacs at WWDC. Then I would expect G5 iMac update at Mac Expo in Paris in Autumn.
Just my .02 though :D Here's hoping for 3GHz PowerMacs AND G5 iMacs :D

We should consider that the PowerMacs are likely to be only updated machines, regardless of improved internals, and as such are they really worthy of a Keynote release?? ;)

A new iMac G5 (with possible new form factor) would be much more suited to a Keynote presentation. Remember Apple used to just update the old PowerMac G4's and stick em' on the Apple.com homepage. That's not to say that Apple won't be benchmarking the PowerMacs at WWDC though ;)

I just think that if we do see new PowerMacs tomorrow, then that clears the path for the iMac G5 to be launched at the WWDC. :)

Missing the obvious

Apple pretty much shut down Sony's new music "server" Sonos that was also announced today.

Instead of $1200 you can spend 1/10th and get the same features, and then some (AirPort Express is just a smaller AirPort base station).

The interface is the well-established iTunes for music, seamless networking for the rest (on OS X). There is no very expensive battery-powered gewgaw to lose/drop/have stolen during a party and increasing coverage costs less than half as much as the Sony "solution."

I bet a lot of people in Japan were cursing Steve Jobs and shaking their fist in the air today.

Does anybody else think there is a way to send audio from your computer other than from iTunes? I would love to get rid of the cable that currently sends audio over to my stereo from my computer, but I need to be able to listen to movies and what have you as well. But this looks like a better day than I thought.

The key for Apple here is getting more people to use iTunes MS, locking them in. Getting them to try the iPod, which helps to tie them in to ITMS. Seeing how 'it just works' and so trying a Mac when they replace their windows machine.

just wandering here but maby one of the new products will be a new ipod, the wireless ipod that works with bluetooth and 802.11g so you can streem your music to the airport express how cool would that be.

you could set your ipod to detect the network so your ipod will playyour pre decided tune as you walk through your door never mind the opertunity's to play music through your neigbors sound system compleatly freaking them out :D

iPod Express

All that is needed now is wireless capabilities added to the iPod so I can stream from that device rather than a computer. I want to be able to control my listening environment from wherever I am, and the iPod is the perfect device for doing that. What if you want to listen to a different playlist? You have to get up and go over to the computer to change it. Could the next gen iPods come with this functionality? I think it must be so.

Actually, the iPod would be the remote.

i think this is gonna be the "summer of wireless".

Airport Express is the coolest thing i've ever seen. i'd been wanting a way to play music to my speakers wirelessly for a LONG time, and there was no real solution before now. i'm gonna buy one soon, and it will be great in the dorm room, wireless printing, wireless internet, wireless music... good times.

but i'm also awaiting FireWireless, mainly if it will enable wireless displays, which would be so incredibly awesome. i wouldnt buy one (yet) but it would be neat to see.

i'm saving my pennies for an iMac G5 now. and Airport Express.

I agree. Although I have nothing to support it. I think the new 60 gig iPod will have built in AE support and be able to stream music directly to the AExpress.
