What year am I in? As usual, everyone is prattling off about specs. Why do we still do this? This phone or any other for that matter has to compete on experience. Doesn't matter if it has 12,000 hour battery if the UI and app experience isn't on par with Apple's. Phone's display is meaningless if it doesn't have a better Notes app or other core productivity software.
True, and so far the "experience" is just a custom skin and LED gimmicks. In the end it's still Android, commodity OS.

Heck, if the founder himself uses an iPhone, that tells you something.

I am an old Apple Macintosh hardware user, still rocking an iPhone X.

Finally; something refreshing, on the stagnated smartphone world. Looks really nice and have good specs, for the price. I find it a really good phone (designed in the UK and EU), for EU users. Three years warranty.

Ordered two (2 x 499€); one in black and one in white… expected delivery on 21 of July.
is this consider racist or discrimination?

Mid range SoCs are perfectly fine for most people, these phones should have a great battery because of that chip. Speaking of 120Hz screens, where's iPhone 13's, that costs $800, 120Hz screen? 🤔
Is this phone running iOS? No, it runs Android. So let's compare to other Android phones, where 120Hz AMOLED and SD778 is no longer that premium. Like I mentioned Galaxy A52s has SD778, 120Hz AMOLED, 4 years OS upgrades, for $300. Meanwhile, for $400 or more, you can already get SD8xx class SoC with 120Hz AMOLED as well and 256GB storage.

Apple can sell iPhone 13 for $800 because it has Apple brand. Apple brand does carries that premium pricing. Nothing's brand is worth nothing right now.

The Nothing phone is just hyping up juvenile youtubers who went gaga just because of LED gimmicks. Just like those neon-lighted PC cases.

What they should have done is have the entire back be covered in a grid of LEDs that are controllable. You could have it show drawings or animations that way. Endless possibilities for third parties and end users.
Or a screen, wait, might as well use AoD on the main screen.
The LED notification gimmicks is a solution for nothing (pun intended).

200,000 preorders is close to nothing in such business.
A company that has devices assembled in China and pretends to be better than Apple with a supposedly particularly innovative approach; quite arrogant. To keep an OS up to date internationally requires a well-filled cash register. I think that these risk investors are once again sinking money into a daring idea.

Good to see Carl getting this out the door. With OP steadily going downhill since his departure and it's slow-but-steady absorption into Oppo, I've likely bought my last OP phone with the 9 Pro.

This is a direct competitor to the iPhone SE, not the iPhone 13. And it’s definitely the better choice in terms of design and hardware specs.
The SE has IP67 water and dust resistance; this phone has no stated water resistance. I would not buy a phone without water resistance in 2022!

Even the Samsung Galaxy A52s, which has the same SD778 and 120Hz AMOLED, has IP67, and it’s just $300. One has to beg the question the value of this Nothing phone since it will be running the same commodity apps on any other Android phone.

No; not at all. I have been educated to be tolerant, to have an open mind and treat everyone with respect.

My kids like Android phones. As I have already written, I find this smartphone to have a great value, regarding design/features/price here, in europe.

Kind regards

Which model e-board(s) do you have for chess?
A DGT USB board with DGT-Pi, DGT Centaur and I’ve got a Chessnut Air on the way. Planning on buying a Millenium e-board this fall. Although there are two apps on IOS (Whitepawn and the Chessnut Air app) that I can still use on an iPad Pro.

I do use 2 IOS apps (Chess Studio Pro and Chess Opener Pro).

hows the battery life on the nothing phone!?!
Battery life will most likely be very good, better than the iphone 13 I would say.
The SD 778G+ is quite efficient in general and the phone has a lighter Android skin.

and only 500nits while your iphone has almost 1000nits with the same peak 1200
Its 500nits typical brightness, so in normal conditions(not only 500nits) which is not bad, obviously it can go higher(even for full screen brightness).
The real differentiator is the higher refresh rate.

again nothing special...just maybe the price...
The overall package is very decent for the price. And most phones(including iphone's) aren't special these days, maybe it's the case for foldable to be considered special.
Nothing special is just a cheap attempt at an irony to be honest.

but the SoC and android can suffer from your personal UI
This remark doesn't make sense.

Take note of what? A no-name new brand showing overpriced mid-range commodity phone with adolescent lighting gimmicks? People are already willing to spend $1000 for iPhones.

And do note that Carl Pei himself uses an iPhone, per his own admission.
take notes on how a modern, tasteful design should look like, hint: not like this:

Regardless, Apple set the trend for others to copy. The Nothing phone is not good taste, it's a juvenile copy of the iphone 12 design.

Nothing Reminds me of people replacing their iphone glass backs with transparent versions. Seen that already even in the days of Nokia dumb phones where teenagers used transparent plastic housings on their phones.

This is worse. OnePlus One actually was worth the hype as it brought flagship SoC (at that time) for a really low price. This Nothing phone is literally just an overpriced mid-range Android phone with LED gimmicks. It's like those gaming headsets that are overpriced because they have color LEDs around it.
yeah and I think the LED other than being useless will put a drain on the battery lol .. the irony about boasting bout the battery size only to add a drain to it.

The problem is the software not the hardware... there are many hardware manufacturers.
