Yeah, but wouldn't this be a better deal?
I have no idea to be honest and haven't thought about it that much. I'm just curious how the Android platform and ecosystem is doing these days and might try one of those budget phones sometime. But I don't have a need for a secondary phone right now. I like Nothing purely because of the aesthetics. That does not mean I would not enjoy using a Samsung of course.

Honestly, when it comes to the ecosystem it largely depends on the manufacturer as well. Not all Androids are equal. You can even turn higher end Samsung phones into computers. With Android there are so many choices out there. Some are great others are not. I''m really disappointed with Motorola for example.

Not sure why many are saying the lack of NFC is a a let down. I sometimes feel like I’m the only one in my city that taps with their iPhone. It seems the vast majority still prefer to tap with their chip cards.
No one uses NFC in my country at all! This is a waste feature for us. For payment we use QR Code and we do not have Apple Pay in any case. I have never used NFC in any of my mobiles! This mobile looks great for its specs! The design looks refreshing, UI looks very clean and functional. Modularity is average but back-case replacement is a nice thought. It is not IP69! 3+ years support for a $200 mobile is great! This is great VFM. Most people outside USA and UK/Europe are not tied to any such eco-system.

Yes.

You forgot they offering a 120Hz screen on a $200 dollar phone and 8GB RAM. Yet your $1000 iPhone 15 doesn't have these.

These accessaries are optional, and it is one way for the company to make money. It is a lot better than $1000 phone does come with chargers and headphone in the name of "protecting the environment".
Um iPhones dont come with chargers or headphones...

You berate Apple for charging so much for their products but are happy for a kickstand to be $25?

Bottom line is this is a marketing ploy as much as anything. It is hardly modular when all you can change is a faceplate.
And it loses dust and water ingress...

Like all things, these are made to suit a price point market. Or novelty. It's not going to steal Apple's customer base. It might still a few Android sales from established vendors though ;)

True, but not my bank's debit card
Why? Why a debit card should be more risky than a credit card?
Apple Wallet doesnt pass credit or debit card details along the comms lines. They play middle man between you and the bank and the business. Hence it is more secure and less chance of identity theft.

The local petrol station had a staff member who used cards handed to him until he was sacked. For small transactions that dont require PINs, they can do quite a bit of unauthorised purchasing. A photo of the front and back allows easy payment on websites as well for small amounts.

Yes.

I think the phone offering is very good and very reasonable, at least when compare with iPhone.

I can tolerate $25 kickstand, since it is way for them to recoup some money. It is likely they don’t make lots of margin on the phone sale.

Yet, Apple with more than 30% margin on hardware sale, still doesn’t offer chargers and headphone.

So Apple is the greedy one, no question about it.

Apple cut the charger and headphones... because there is no plug for headphones...

The EU was all about standardizing chargers. So you should only need a cable.
This move was supposed to save the planet... :)

And after Apple did it, Samsung made fun of them ... before doing the same in both cases. :)

A cheap phone with reasonable specs is going to meet some market needs.
And in places where Apple sells on brand name and people who choose to stay in the Apple environment and can afford it, they will still pay more. It's not going to tempt me to move. It's just an interesting device to know about. And competition drives all other businesses forward.

Apple could include lightning EarPod… Just saying.

I also did not Samsung not including chargers, so does Google.

If Apple sells something like this, I would okay with not including any accessories. But they aren’t, they enjoy taking more than 30% of margin and rip off their customers

You do yo. If this thing comes to Canada, I will buy one for sure. Just like I have every generation of Google Pixel.

I use Google for syncing all my staffs. I refuse to trap myself into Apple’s environment.

Is this USA?

In Canada if you can pay with a debit or credit card you can pay with your phone (unless the transaction is over your accounts tap to pay limit)
Yes, USA. Some stores have older card readers that don't have tap to pay.

Including Walmart and grocery stores?
the grocery store I frequent the most does not have tap to pay though I believe Whole Foods does, Wal-Mart does not accept google-pay or apple-pay - instead they accept only "Walmart-pay".

There are many other stores that do not have tap to pay, again, most of these are stores with older an POS terminal.

interesting how different things are from one country to the next

in canada Walmart just accepts credit or debit, it doesn't matter if it's a physical card or on your phone, I'm not sure if the terminal even distinguishes them

you dont get the point: Apple took out the earphone (and the Lightning adapter) because many people werent using them and they ended up in landfill or drawers unused. I gave a number of them away to people.

same with chargers.
we all have more than enough chargers already. the planet does not need more unused ones.

Apple sell them for those who want them.
there would be cheaper options that many probably purchase instead.
it's hardly core business selling either item.

seems your post is more about proclaiming the benefits of Google Pixel and "not being trapped by Apple".
use what you want but this is an Apple forum so expect some pushback ;)

It likely has something to do with agreements behind the implementation of Walmart pay in the US. Apparently Walmart pay was not introduced in Canada leaving room for other options.

It is simply a business move to maximize profits, there is no environmental motivation at all.

If it is really for environmental, they should stop selling chargers. There is no point for Apple making chargers when all the third party options out there.

For a phone that cost over $1000, not including accessories should be shamed.

Yes.

Google Pixel, at least entry level Pixel 7a or 8a offers better values than iPhone 15 models. At least all the Google AI staffs are available with lower end Pixel, unlike Apple.

I think youve ventured onto the wrong forum...

Apple were one of the first tech companies to have a staff member devoted to green manufacturing and packaging.
they have been early on upfront about materials used and ways they have reduced rare earth metals and hazardous chemicals. their packaging has shrunk and used less plastic. even in store bags have changed. they have pushed for green energy and recycling products and materials.

if Apple want to make and sell $1000 phones, it is not up to you to shame them or those who buy them.
luxury cars exist and do the same job of getting you from A to B.
just because you cant afford one or dont want to buy one does not mean you can tell other people to not do it.

If a Pixel suits your needs, buy it.
that's your choice.
the rest of us will purchase what we want to as well :)

There's no reason it can't be both. Some decisions made for the environment, like smaller packaging, also has a positive impact on the bottom line for the company. Small boxes mean more phones per pallet, meaning more in a container, meaning lower freight cost per unit, for example.

exactly. overpackaging with added size and weight is less environmentally sound.
the point i was making was Apple chose to remove chargers and headphones.
the other poster was claiming it was to save money.
yes, they would have but they also risked ridicule... as Samsung did on both occasions before doing the same.

sometimes it takes courage to change things against public perceptions.
later spinning it as pure penny pinching only is wrong. it saved money BUT it was done for other reasons.

Though, I'm sure the savings is the primary driver of that change. The environmental benefits are an added bonus.
I guess none of use KNOW.

But the risk of removing something that youve been giving away and including for a decade was something that people would complain about.

Even before removal though, Apple had a long history of environmental impact of their products and processes...

Oh please. iPad still shopping with charger and cables. Doesn’t sound to environmentally friendly.

So does Mac. Since the Mac can be charged by USB-C anyway and most people who has USB-C chargers and anyway.

Oh, Apple should also stop including cable anyway, since you know environment.

The only reason that Apple do this is reduce cost and taking more profits.

wrong. iPads and MacBooks need chargers with my higher current supplies.
these arent low end chargers.

are Samsung reducing costs and increasing profits for doing the exact same thing as Apple just a year later? :)
