Honestly, this site has some of the most miserable commentators on the planet. I don't care how entrenched/indoctorinated some of you are in the Apple eco system, I dont know how you can see this and not think "ah that's neat". But no, some of you feel the need to over compensate, and dump all over it for whatever reason.

Bad idea! Lose your phone or it dies, POOF! Bye bye photos and contacts etc.
I do take regular backup. I am thinking a lot about cut from iCloud and this depends mostly on my knowledge of what I need and want to “sacrifice”. iCloudless approach is doable and has its sense.

I wonder for how long it'll get software updates, because I remember Carl Pei's other company not having a great track record when it came to that 😅

"They borrowed some design elements from the iPhone"

More than that....even the logo is meant to suggest an apple:

Don't you think it's cool? As a science guy I think this is too cool, very much in line with my imagination of the future of Android phone, technology and with a fun.

Why though? They have their own Nothing earbuds, I believe? They should stick with their own ecosystem. Bring something for AirPods (which can be broken with another firmware update from Apple) is nothing good for the consumers. (Excuse the pun)
No, this is absolutely good for consumers. The alternative, only trying to give the best experience if the customer buys more products from you, is the anti-consumer action.

I think Nothing is being realistic here - a LOT of people have AirPods. Either they already own them or prefer them for some technical reasons. Saying "We understand, you prefer AirPods and we'll try to make things better" is much better than ignoring them.

No problem, I use google for contacts and Prime for photos. I pay for Prime so I so using them for photos is an easy decision. Also unlike the icloud I can choose the photos to upload.

An android phone with a few lights on the back. Why is this regarded as revolutionary / amazing or interesting in any way?

Because all iKnockoffs are so similar to a real iPhone that a spec of difference is seen as “innovative”.

The website marketing for this phone takes me back to the 1990s. I get a strong NIN/Nothing Records vibe from it. Not sure if I like it or not, but it's definitely there.

Some of my friends who own an iPhone have never signed into iCloud and just use it as a regular phone to take pictures and text.
Wow… I never knew I was an exemption! This kind of scares me. Or, maybe think I’m just a hair little bit further from the grid/matrix than most. That said, I’ve always looked at iCloud as a cash cow for Apple to get a subscription from me to store photos. I’ve never seen a reason to use it

Oh no, I think you're mistaken. I do hope Google or Android has some strong ecosystem on their side? I hope Google can work some of the most complete ecosystem for their software and hardware. Instead you can go to www.killedbygoogle.com list is getting longer and longer showing how inconsistent and incompetent Google really is?

And there is.. Pixel, a niche product lineup that only popular in the US despite has been around for 7 YEARS? (What are they doing for so long?) And in 2022 they just started making Pixel Watch. Oh and don't forget Chrome OS laptops are nowhere as integrated as Mac with iOS.

So yeah, while you may think some of the comments here are "indoctrinated", I believe some of them more about frustrated about how they can't find another alternative to compete with Apple?

I admit Apple had done some ridiculous things and jerk moves in the past. But looking back at the competition?

Having played around with one in the store, it's the first Android device I've used that genuinely made me look into it more and consider switching.

IMHO it's not a phone for persons looking at an IP 13/14, but if you're in the SE demographic, it's alot of phone to consider for the same kind of money.

this phone design is the coolest i’ve seen for years.. phones have largely been the same for the past 5 years and one company doing something different for once could shake it up a bit
They literally copied the iPhone’s design and stuck some flashy lights on the back!
