Sorry, title should say "Now that..."

I'm definitely considering getting an S3 Frontier. My friend has an S2 and i was honestly a bit jealous. I love the styling and the bezel is a great way to interact with the watch. The circular face is also very elegant. Functionally, it seems it will do everything I need and with an always on face and better advertised battery life it's very alluring. Besides Apple Pay, I wonder what I you would miss?

I think this could be a blow to what is already a struggling product at Apple.

I could return my series 2 Apple watch for it but I won't. Besides the fact the apple watch is optimized more for ios than any other watch I like the apple watch design IMHO.

Tired of round watches and not a fan of Samsung so not a chance in you know where I'd give up my series 2 for it..

Plus I will never buy another watch for activities that does not have a sapphire display.. I learned my lesson a while back with a Fenix 3 (non sapphire version) that was scratched to heck within a few months..

Not saying you're wrong but what evidence do you have that the Apple Watch is a struggling product?

Whose to say that that it won't explode on your wrist? Samsung is known for their explosive products ;)

Agree... As a matter of fact I just looked at iStock and the SS Space Black 42mm is not available at any store in the entire USA. They are selling as soon as the stores get them..

I like the gear look much better. But the gear isn't waterproof and health data doesn't sync so I'm sticking with my series 2.

I thought I saw stories in the front page that pop-up Apple Watch stores were shutting down due to soft sales. And anecdotally I don't see a lot of Apple Watches and no one else in my circle has one.

I have never looked back at my health data history except with my Withings scale. My Watch is great for monitoring how many steps I've done or calories I've burned but I never need more than a current view of that data.

If the Apple Watch is struggling then all other smart watches must be absolute failures. Apple has 47% of the market share, meanwhile Samsung has 16%.

Just because stores are shutting down and because no one you know wheres an Apple Watch, does not mean its a struggling product. Series 2 are still extremely hard to come by and I see more and more Apple Watches out in the public every single day.

If you Google "Apple Watch Sales" you'll find a number of analyst stories saying sales are down. Of course, you'll also find reports of Tim Cook defending Apple Watch sales. It's hard to be sure, but I'd say where there's smoke, there's fire.

Heres the thing. No one knows Apple Watch sales but Apple. Those numbers have never been released, only the 'market share' based on studies. It doesn't matter is sales are down (if they are actually down) because they are still selling better than the competitors.

Those considering the Samsung gear S3 (like myself) do further research before purchasing because its compatible with IOS. Apple has a history of crippling such an app, apparently in many reviews you cannot reply to messages, can't check emails, can't reply to text messages, no Samsung Pay, no access to your contacts....its seems it is somewhat limited so people will not flee from the apple watch to the S3.

I wouldn't say its Apple intentionally crippling apps, its because Apple does not give up access to that type of stuff to developers. Developers can't directly access Mail and Messages.

I was intrigued by it.. No sapphire display = PASS and not waterproof for swimming = PASS

Other than that it's a nice watch.. The dial mech is pretty sweet but that's also the reason it will never be waterproof..

The dial could be waterproof if it used magnets to activate switches safely inside the casing.

Maybe but if so then why did Samsung decide to not do it? Waterproofing is a pretty big deal for anything intended as as activity and / or fitness device...

It's the # 1 reason I passed on the S0 Watch..

Can someone here explain the iOS functionality with the Gear watch? Can you accept calls and use OK google or voice commands?

Just a FYI. I have the S3 and iPhone 7+. You can reply to text messages and I also have access to contacts. Only issue I am having is that At&t does not support numbersync right now.

You can take and make phone calls as long as you have the S3 Frontier LTE. I am using iPhone 7+ as of now no ok google and voice commands are not working.

So the S3 on iOS is limited to being a notification device only. Bummer :/

Something, something, ecosystem, something...

;)
I think people were able to get it to function as a notification device way before an official app was announced by connecting it via bluetooth. So this announcement isn't special!

I owned an S6 with the S2 Gear before and while I LOVED everything about the Gear watch, I hated the Samsung/Android OS on the phone. It's not intuitive or smooth! I went back to iPhone immediately. They got the Gear perfectly though. I love the bezel rotator and the circle design.

The Gear is a far better designed watch. It looks like a watch as opposed to a wrist mounted computer. If it was waterproof I'd buy it in a second.

If I had wrists like Paul Bunyan I might consider it. :) given the fact that the precious gears apparently haven't sold well at all, I assume support will remain weak and even less apps than Apple Watch. They are so big, you can forget then fitting under dress shirts and even jackets!
