maybe later on, but I cant think of any reason why I should at this point. Unless I can get some "free" apps that way.. then maybe

Gonna wait a few days before I do so. Only reason is I want to change some system sounds and have an actual background image. Aside from that, everything I want has been handled by the AppStore.

Already Jailbroken:D My First gen was jailbroken since jailbreaking was first released so it wouldnt be fair if my new phone did not get the same treatment

So after all these posts, the only reasons I'm seeing are to change "some sounds" and to change the look of the menu.

Did I miss anything? Is ANYONE doing anything interesting with this jailbreak? You know, some reason to actually think about it. Or are those days gone?

EDIT: I did see the 'tether to my Macbook' comment, but that looks more like something he's hoping for, rather than something that exists. Did I read that right?

At any rate, I can't ever see myself doing this. I would be hyper paranoid every time I saw some kind of update from Apple. I'd be convinced that I'm one mistaken button-click away from turning my phone into a paperweight. Who needs that kind of stress? That would suck.

I'm not going to jailbreak or unlock...I'd rather have a phone that might go bad that can be replaced by Apple then to void the warranty on it

Pretty much impossible.

Well, it happened before. I understand those people were warned not to do it and had every chance in the world to avoid their fate, but that's why I said I was afraid of MISTAKENLY doing it.

Fact is, some people downloaded an update and mistakenly killed their phones.

Obviously, things can always go wrong. But if something goes wrong with my phone I know I can at least go to Apple about it. Those poor folks had no one to turn to. It's not that there's no risk in life, but I need someone to go to when things go wrong. I won't paint myself into a corner where no one is willing or able to help me.

That's what jailbreaking does. You give up support from Apple, and you don't gain it from anyone else. You think the jail-breakers will help you if your phone breaks? Fat chance. I have a safety net. I'm willing to give that one up for another one, but jail-breaking doesn't offer that. It's giving up my safety net for very little gain.

I thought about it ... but I don't think I'm going to. Too much of a risk for me, and 2.0 isn't really stable. The only app I'd use that I can't use now would be a video recording app, and I hear one is supposed to be released soon anyhow.

So nope ... no jailbreaking for me!

Well my needs are...
1. Bossprefs and the like to control services
2. Poof to get rid of Stocks and any other icons I don't want
3. Change the dock
4. Tethering (It CAN be done, at least it could with the first iPhone)
5. An app or two that doesn't exist in the app store or isn't free there
6. MMS Support

Well if you're jailbreaking/unlocking your phone you should have SOME idea of what to do and what not to do. Of course there will always be people with no clue. (just look at all of the "my iPhone speaker on the right side doesn't work" threads. Pretty much the only support I hear people getting from Apple is "restore your phone". Anyhow, for some people it's worth it, and for some it's not. No biggie.

As soon as Taskbar Notifier is released i will JB

could do so now, but im exchanging my iPhone next fri as my home button hardly works and the cases dont line up, leaking light etc etc

No need to for me at the moment. That may change of course - I'll wait to see how others get on with it in any case.

Amen bruddah. And Summerboard. I had forgotten how boring a black background and stock icons are. Plus some of the app store icons are simply atrocious. But even if SB doesn't make it to 2.0, Taskbar Notifier alone is totally worth JB'ing for. Sad really, that the iPhone doesn't have notification icons already. My old Razr had it beat in that dept.
