I totally disagree. The majority of consumers have no idea that the next iPhone is the sixth generation. They don't keep track like some MR members would. "iPhone 5" would work just fine as a name.

I'm skeptical that we are getting a 4G iPhone next fall. I think instead we will see a redesign in the next generation (4" screen, thinner) and then we will get a 4G iPhone in 2013. While 4G and a redesign next fall would be ideal, I don't think it will happen.

As for any next generation iPhone talk, I'm burned out after discussing it leading up to the keynote a few weeks back. I don't have it in me to discuss it on here until the weeks leading up to the next iPhone. So probably next fall.

There is absolutely no evidence to support this; nobody at Apple has made any definitive statement as to why it's called the 4S. The S this time around could have been given that codename for any of a million reasons internally. It could have been for no other reason than that Steve thought it sounded nice and nobody wanted to make an issue of it while he was dying before their eyes.

Officially, the S stands for nothing until and unless Apple says otherwise.

Oh officially. According to you, excellent. :rolleyes:

Apple clearly has created a subcategory for minor iPhone hardware performance revisions, with 3GS and 4S. The S doesn't just tag along for fun because they couldn't think of another name for the phone. Coincidentally, like the 3GS, the 4S is also substantially faster than its predecessor.
 
I'll skip the iPhone 4s and get the Galaxy Nexus for vzw next month. That should hold me down till next summer/fall when the iPhone 5 gets released ;)

Well, first... this is not a movie theater. Second, I'm not a little kid and third... You entered this thread on your own. Nobody obligated you to enter. It's dumb of you to enter a thread that is the same as 5 other ones and make your super adult and mature statement so I could look like an attention freak. It makes you look dumb since part of your statement is that I'm doing a thread about the same subject as 5 other ones. You just picked mine to be the big man...

Maybe you don't know yet but this is a forum (An Internet forum, or message board, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages.) People enter forums in the web to discuss things in different matters. Maybe you are not ready to manage this kind of websites. That's why you feel like that.

Anyway, thank you for ALL your attention. I hope you can sleep well because it looks like this thread is bothering you enough to take your sleep away.

I wasn't 'expecting' an iPhone 5, to be honest. I was 'hoping' for one, but I expected a 4S.

I think that they might somehow honor Steve by relating the next iPhone name with his name. Perhaps iPhone SJ. It shouldn't be forgotten that he, according to reports, participated in he development of the next iPhone.

There exists this very bizarre obsession regarding the naming of the next iPhone. Perhaps it's the vanity of the worshippers.

All I care is that Apple apply themselves and show the world they still have the ability to produce a truly exciting innovative phone.

This, instead of resting on their past laurels, and belching out some warmed over "upgrade".
 
Look no further folks.....If anyone can remember just a few weeks ago when the rumors of the iPhone 5 would look like, etc, etc, and were wrong. My 2cents would be, just wait for it to see what the changes/name if any will be.

I think they should just start calling it "iPhone" again. That is what it says on the back of the phone. Forget the number or the letter that comes with it. This is similar to how the iPods are called. There is no iPod 4 or whatever. They differentiated by the generation.

Just call it iPhone and let's stop making these assumptions of their specific number or letter that usually gets printed on the box and ads. It will start looking silly once we get to "iPhone 14" or whatever.
