that was macworld that happens every january, from what I have seen apple has 3 garunteed events each year

Mac World in Jan
WWDC in June
Itunes/iPod in September

Then they have the odd suprise, as has been mentioned before apple switched from the ibook to the macbook without a show

Don't you reckon it's a bit of a waste not to have an event for this? It's a really good opportunity for them to market it anyway, right?

The reason you would need, or want, wireless USB in a notebook is specifically BECAUSE it is a notebook. I'm not a fan of wires. Period. If I could, I'd have none of them visible. The idea of having a wireless USB hub situated out of sight in a drawer or something and have a card reader, maybe external Blu-Ray drive, external hard drive sitting there while I have my laptop in the living room is something that's very exciting to me. Anyone else with me here?

sounds dumb and apple should just put the card reader in the notebook

apple always do things their way, it's whats makes these board interesting trying to predict them.

If you want to see a waste check out apples uk Adverts, they are a waste of money they only preach to style and people who already know and own a mac.

The flip side of this is o2 who's iPhone adverts actually shows you what you can do with the phone, if apple made the same advert it would simply be a video of the iPhone rotating with some tune playing;)

You sound like your new to all this, Im far from a mac veteren, I left XP in my rear view mirror about 4 years ago after I came into ownership of 2 ibooks (g3 &g4) that had been thrown out after a school fire.

My first show was a september ipod show the Mac Mini got bumped and I bought One, the following April I bought a Blackbook.

I Will tell you one thing about apple product releases and other guys will confirm this, dont put your expectations too high, apple always give us something but they never give us everything, because what you want isnt what apple think you want

probably because they want you to spend the money again for the updated hardware/software the next time :) makes sense to me:cool:

doesnt matter if they gave you something or everything, two years down the line your mac would be old hat, and you would want a new one.

I use my external hard drive as my main storage. My iTunes library is there, all my photographs, all my files. I do NOT enjoy going from one room to another with a one terabyte LaCie drive and its bulky power supply, USB cable, etc.. I'd much prefer to leave it all here and be able to access it other places.

i bet the speed would be crap, get a time capsule

It's capable of sending 480 Mbit/s at distances up to 3 meters and 110 Mbit/s at up to 10 meters. I don't think that's bad at all for the needs I'm discussing. Plus, though the Time Capsule is a smart product, it's way overpriced considering what it does.

how much is that belkin wireless usb again

The 14th is officially on my calendar. I am unavailable before 12 because I know I will not be able to get anything done until then.

Who else thinks that if Oct. 14th shows up and there is nothing released everyone on Macrumors (and other Apple fan sites) will simultaneously have their heads explode? :p

I do! Imagine the fallout! I personally will be most disgruntled. Then, I will go ahead and buy the white MB (or maybe a Blackbook...hmm:rolleyes:) that I have always coveted, then sell it this time next year when I'll actually need the GPU I was hoping for in the new MBs/MBPs... To me, any mac is an improvement! :D

nothing has been confirmed yet? right?

Nothing will ever by officially confirmed, if that's what you mean. If it's true though (and the timing sure seems right), we'll probably hear more and more rumors over the next week, with things approaching near-certainty by the weekend.

Apple won't say anything though until the launch day.

A major retail store (Saturn) in (at least) the Netherlands has just put the MacBook on a special offer. It's down 113 euros. New price is 886 euros (normal retail price is 999).

Who knows, they might want to get rid of their stock.

I am SO glad that you aren't saying get rid of it for thinness! Thank you so much for making sense on the professional level.

Then, all they need to do is adopt newer smaller ports like HDMI or display port, take out the ethernet port (make it USB dongle like the Air) and use the extra space for more FW800 ports (two of them) an eSATA port and maybe 1 more USB port for the other users.

I have a MacBook a like it alot, but if I could squeeze another hour or so out of its battery, it would be nearly perfect for me. So, I wouldn't be interested in a new product that is 0.5 lb lighter and 0.7 in thinner than what I have now, with similar battery performance and an optical drive I use only once in a while. I could use the space for an extra battery and longer life (especially if it incorporates the new fast-charging technology that Toshiba just introduced.)

The MacBook (especially) is at a crossroads, IMO. It's either going to have to drop in price for what it now does, or provide new, best-in-class performance for the price point and market it serves. Apple is not a "drop in price" type of company, so I expect better.

I hope they keep Firewire on the MacBook, and add HDMI (or a way to get HDMI), a better LCD screen, and a backlit keyboard. And if they had an BTO option to get a configuration with a dedicated GPU, it would be hard to pass up.

If somebody wants thin and stylish, then get a MacBook Air and live with the compromises its design brings.

No way... almost nobody uses FW800, compared to Ethernet. Besides, Ethernet via USB is a great idea for the MacBook Air, where performance doesn't really matter. But for the current Gb-Ethernet it's a major (!) step back, performance-wise.

Apple will not reduce the number of USB ports or remove the optical drive, for the sake of greater thinness or an increased battery. While some of you can do without an optical drive and/or don't mind hauling around an external one. It is a fact, that the vast majority of users DO want an integrated optical drive. This is a machine that must have mass market appeal and the MacBook is a mass market product. For the rest of you, who want the thinnest laptop without an optical drive, there is the MacBook Air.

Agreed 100%. I can't understand why people want ultra-thin, feature stripped MB and MBP. If you look on the Apple site the MPB is referred as a desktop replacment. For all other people, that don't want a desktop replacement: go and buy a Macbook Air. It's already there!!!

NVIDIA Corporation stock dives

The Nasdaq has NVIDIA in its top ten losers for the day, down 16%.

It seems it may be a good day to place a buy order if you think next week's releases/annoucement will have a positive impact.

Certainly is a cheaper way of getting Apple related stock.

I however wouldn't buy at this stage, the market is too volatile, even though I'd be in for the long term.

I think the Macbooks would look nice in aluminum and having nvidia graphics in them....but Apple would need to do something to separate the MacBook Pro's from them. More so than a speed bump.

After my mum, my sister and me all bought acer 5050 laptops and after they all were falling apart and failing within a year and a half, I've decided to listen to all my computer owning friends and move onto an apple laptop.
Luckily my friends warned me about the upcoming laptop and thats how I got onto this forum.
I hate waiting but its going to be awful if I spend a fortune on a macbook just to see a brand new model for sale a little bit later.

So as a complete mac-virgin im joining you all desperatly waiting for news to see what kind of macbook I will be buying in a week or so.
The only thing I really want from a macbook is that its fast, reliable and cheaper!
I'm Dutch after all :D

Hello, I'm following this rumor for the macbook update for some weeks now, and I really want to buy the new macbook. It'll be my first mac and I heard/read a lot of good things about OSX. I was wondering if this Nvidia thing will have positive effects on 3d-modeling with a CAD program like Solidworks. And does anyone has experience with using Solidworks on a current macbook??

thx

Nvidia has never made laptop chipsets for intel platform. They have made desktop chipsets that focus on performance than power consumption. I think we will see tons of issues if apple becomes the 1st to use nvidia based platform for macbook.

In an ideal world Apple should either use AMD/ATI platform for macbook as it has much better integrated GFX or use less powerful dedicated gfx with intel montevina. They can use montevina with powerful and dedicated gfx(9700GTS or 4850) for macbook pro. That would make a good product split.

I dont see apple using amd at this point bcos they are getting discounts on intel cpus.
