Because they are desperate for one. A BMW's parts are worth a certain amount, plus the markup necessary for making that company profitable. $60,000 is a fair price, based on that concept. $200,000 is not. Likewise, an iPad is worth $800, not $2000.
They are desperate for one?! LOL what are iPads, the last source of food and water?! Please... This is the point you completely missed about theM3. I /want/ one...that doesn't all of a sudden translate into me being forced or HAVING to get one. Regardless of how desperate I am, that price is too high for me, I'm not paying it.
How do people not get the concept of something only being worth what people are willing to pay for it. There's no fair or unfair or 'inherent' value of these goods. This is really getting a bit ridiculous... If you don't understand basic economics, pick up a book. If you do and just don't like it, well...that sucks I guess. But don't act like supply and demand is some kind of economic anomaly that only applies to iPads...
