Look, I'm a fan of Verizon, but you really need to lay off drinking the Verizon kool-aid man.
Take a look at the recent financial outlook for Apple. Stocks won't be dropping, unless you're smarter than all the financial analysts out there. They just got a boost in their projections. I agree they need to continue expanding, but not to the degree of begging Verizon for anything. A CDMA iPhone could provide a 16% boost in sales of the iPhone based on projections I'm reading. But that includes both China and India with over 160 Milllion CDMA users in the Asia-Pacific market. Apple would do just fine without Verizon. And Verizon just fine without Apple. Neither needs to beg, but it's obvious from recent statements that Verizon want's an iPhone. Apple probably does too, but it's not like Steve to make a public statement like Verizon has been doing.
Great Post!
I have been a long time customer of both Verizon and AT&T. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. From my personal experience with two phones on each network (I'm a mobile / smartphone addict) I've found that the difference is not as great as some would like to believe.
There are areas in my state (CA) where each is the strongest, then some areas where they are nearly identical. Customer service is about the same with AT&T leading by a small margin, yet let's remember this is only my experience.
I'd like to see the iPhone placed with Verizon since that would give users that don't want to pay an ETF or wait for their contract to expire, an opportunity to buy an iPhone. It's an additional income stream for both companies and will buy Apple some time to recover from the bad publicity of the current iPhone. I know that many will argue there's been no impact, that iPhones are selling as fast as they can make them.. blah...blah...blah...
But the fact is, Apple is not invincible. The iP4 debacle was the kick in the pants that Apple needed for a reality check. They got off easy.
When your loved by nearly everyone, it's easy to coast and get fat and happy. That's what happened in my opinion. Jobs was dealing with medical issues (not his fault), the company was riding high on profits, and the iP4 got shoved out ahead of the Android wave on purpose. I truly believe Apple thought the antenna issue would go unnoticed.
The next gen iPhone is a terrific opportunity for Apple to demonstrate what they are capable of when they focus.
Cheers...
