Did you figure this out?? If not, try to power off and back on again and see if you get data. If so, turn 3g off then back on and see if data still works..

I'm at the office today and the data is in and out. One second I would get 700kbps and then 1 minute later I'll get some Exception 32 error in Safari and cannot connect to the Internet.

How's 3G working for y'all in NYC? I am definitely still experiencing problems but it works at least 50-60% of the time now. The phone still drops down to E like crazy and the network's on and off. I think that everyone here is just sick of complaining about it...

I am HOPING that when the Blackberry Bold comes out this will be all sorted. There's no way the corporate customers will put up with this unreliable 3G network. And if the BB Bold don't have any of these issues, it would be time for me to get one of those instead...

Complete loss of service

I was at E. 42nd and Madison Friday afternoon about 6PM and had full bars for signal and the nifty new 3G symbol but couldn't place a call and data was a complete failure. As soon as I dialed I'd get 3 beeps and the call would drop or it would hang indefinitely trying to dial.

Is this a problem others have experienced or should I be worried about my phone? It goes beyond lack of 3G service. I recently moved back to NYC so I've only had about two weeks to use the new iphone here. I haven't seen any of these issues in the financial district but once I did get the bad SIM message and had to reboot the phone. I've only seen the bad SIM message that once.

I'm worried that my phone is going instead of it just being the (unfortunately) expected ATT failures. Say what you want about Verizon but boy you really can't beat their network.

It's just AT&T (it happens to all of us here in Manhattan, but it could be iPhone related. Just not yours alone). The phone does drop to E a lot for no reason at all though, that is probably Apple.

I have a similar problem. There are three areas that i constantly use my phone in where the phone always drops the call. However, when i place the calls, i have full bars, great service. During the calls, the signal strength remains perfect but for some reason the phone calls drop. Not once does the phone even switch to no service or even low service. In these areas, I usually cannot keep a call live for more than 5 minutes. This is really bad in my apartment (even outside on the patio). I have replaced my SIM card twice and obviously have the latest software. Is there any chance this is the phone? Is it worth even trying to replace it? The one thing I did not test was whether this occurs when on Edge only. I am going to try and keep 3G off for awhile and see how that affects things...

AT&T is epic fail in NYC compared to Verizon.

Yep, 3G isnt worth a damn...I just turned it off and constantly use Edge, fed up waiting for 3g to load anything.

I spoke to a cust service rep from AT&T technical group. He accepted blame on behalf of AT&T for the problems in NY but that does me no good.
He suggested once a day switching airplane mode on then off to re-establish the connection. Basically he blamed the amount of users and lack of certain types of towers (there are 2 kinds of 3G towers). He said that the tower gets your "profile" of services and holds on to it if the connection is broken.
Although he owned up to the problem, he couldn't bottom line it for me as far as when it will be resolved. He told me to call back at the end of October if I don't see a "significant improvement."

I don't know about you guys, but I think it's getting worse. This blows and really f'n frustrating. My Verizon service was great and my AT&T service on my BBerry Curve was solid (Edge). When I was out of town and got the true 3G experience with the iphone, it was great, but it's getting unbearable.

Anyone have any other news?

Has anyone gotten anywhere on this issue. I've been complaining to AT&T about this for almost a year now (starting on 7/11/08 when i bought my iPhone 3G.)

I called AT&T last night and they denied any sort of issue exists.... I filed complaints with the FCC and BBB. I really hate to go through all of this trouble but it really gets under my skin to think that I've been paying them $100 /month for half-a$$ed data services.
