Someone in the "3G getting worse" thread is saying the same thing... except he's in DC.

Just called AT&T... rep claimed they know towers are down, but they haven't been repaired yet due to the holidays and that I wasn't the only one who had called.

I've already gotten $25 out of them this month and I'm getting ready for work, so I didn't try to push for anything more yet, but this is ridiculous.

We all need to call and deplete their profit margins through support costs and credits until they fix this sh't.

Between AT&T and Apple... nothing is making this phone look good right now.

I'm just wondering how next week's keynote is gonna start off.

Jobs: "So yea ...iPods. Yea."

Ny/sf

I was in SF last week and it worked just fine. Back in NY and its odd because I get strong 3G bars but nothing happens...no data message, times out, whatever. No 3g signal at all in my apt where edge is 3 bars.

yea I live in queens and the 3g signal isnt that strong... Were just gunna have to wait for 2.1

It isn't the firmware, it's AT&T's overloaded, piece of garbage network. Call 611 and demand credits.

I agree with the other guy, the only reason I haven't kept posting is i'm tired of it.

23rd/Park and NO DATA is working this morning. Tried airplane mode toggle, still time out checking email, with 2-3 bars of 3g. Tried Edge, timed out.

This is really, really tiring.

Just posting as a point of reference:

This is in Midtown today after the service outage. Let's hope it stays AT LEAST this fast.

Although I suspect as more realize the outage is over it will get slower. :(

Thats a lot better then you guys have been getting up there.

Yes, it was very short-lived. :(

Seems like the network outage had just been fixed and people didn't know yet. Slow as molasses right now in the outskirts of NYC; even worse near 30-42nd street in Manhattan about an hour ago.

I have been having the same problem for 2 weeks now. My phone shows 5 bars of 3G, and yet nothing works.

I don't want people thinking that this morning's outage is related to our ongoing problem. I called AT&T today and the rep said that there was a problem this morning with data service. Then I proceeded to remind him that I was having this issue for 2 weeks, not since this morning. He fumbled around with his words giving me no straight answer.

It's becoming very frustrating to deal with this subpar performance from AT&T. Their biggest market in the country is having issues, and their reps are not even informed of any ongoing problem in the area? That is just flat out unacceptable.

Everyone should be calling in demanding and receiving credits for the lack of data connectivity. Only when their bottom line is affected, will we see swift results.

I was told by an AT&T rep yesterday after complaining that a tower in NYC covering part of the NoHo/ east village area (at least) has been down since August 25th. This is unrelated to the Mid-Atlantic outages earlier in the week. When I asked him why, and why nobody told us, he began stumbling over his words....wasn't supposed to mention that one I guess:rolleyes:

So...he gave me a TON off ammunition to complain. Anyone in that area call and ask about the downed tower, which is clearly the fault of AT&T, and get you data charge credited!!! Worked for me...NUTS!!!

Previously I got no 3g in my apt, West Village, but as of yesterday I'm getting a strong signal. Weird.:)

OK- I sent two emails so far requesting a data credit and have been told,
NO WAY both times.
How are you guys getting the credit?
I explain my 3G problems (which is 85% unusable) I constantly need to toggle airplane setting, drop/fail calls, etc. I even mentioned the outage last wednesday and the fact that others are claiming credits.
For some reason, in my case, they are playing hard ball and just don't care.

Maybe calling them direct is the answer?
(if I can get a signal )

I am in the EXACT same boat.

I think that from now on I am just going to use AT&T like therapy.
I am going to call and just curse them out when I am having a bad day, since they won't do anything anyway, I might as well relieve some stress on those bast*rds.

EVERYDAY it's a problem. I left work tonight at 6:30pm and had "No Service" (No 3G, not even Edge) for my 3 block walk to the subway. After my train ride, full bars 3G.

Ever notice that it shows full 3G bars sometimes, but the quality of data and call reliability is horrible even while it should be perfect according to icons???

Yeah I bitched at them for a while. But I don't feel the least bit bad. Don't get me wrong I want to pay my bill...for data that works. Until then no way, they are lying

I don't have as many issues any more. I really can't complain.

Could it be better? Sure. Is it absolutely dreadful? I can't say so...

2.1 ---> no 3G in Midtown?

Since the 2.1 update, most of our users (more than half of the 10) don't have 3G in Midtown Manhattan. The only way to get any service is to turn off 3G and use Edge. When they leave Midtown, however, 3G works just fine.

Anyone else seeing this?

I'm in midtown manhattan also (Times Square to be exact) and 3G is working fine for me. It's actually pretty fast right now.

My 3G works now in my apartment in the Village but drop down to E quite a bit. The speed varies anywhere from 200kbps up to 800kbps. If it drops to E, a usual toggle on Airplane mode usually does the trick... The speed is not great and not very reliable, but way better then 2 weeks ago...

As for midtown, phone service now, 5 bars of 3G, but NO DATA. Across the street from Grand Central here.

AT&T did some stuff over the past month or so, but obviously still ways to go.

Did you figure this out?? If not, try to power off and back on again and see if you get data. If so, turn 3g off then back on and see if data still works..
