yeah its a bit of a bummer really. I would have loved for my number to be active on my iPhone. Its a bit of a disapointment really.

I've set up call diversion from my "main" number, to my temporary one.

Dunno what will happen when the number ports though... so maybe that's not such a good idea.

I naively assumed that being a current O2 customer through The Carphonewarehouse meant that my phone number would be ported across to the iPhone quickly (like all the O2 customers).

I entered in the generic PAC number (that was given to me by the CPW in the shop) whilst registering on iTunes, and received an email saying it may take up to 5 business days to port across.
As yet still on the temp number on the iPhone.

Was wondering if any O2/CPW members have already had their number ported across yet?

Why are you using a PAC number to move from O2 to O2!?!?!?!

You simply enter your existing O2 number and they would have sent a text to your current O2 mobile that you enter in the registration process and boom! 30seconds later your number would have been ported.

I was an O2 pay as you go customer, and so didn't need a PAC number.

If you were already an O2 customer, you shouldn't have needed a PAC code as far as I know - you just needed to type in your phone number in iTunes, and it should have done it automatically.

My number was transferred over to the iPhone within 2 hours.

I don't understand why you needed a PAC code when you were staying with O2. What did you do with it?

No I checked this thoroughly last Wed/Thu.
I assumed I was a current O2 customer, and could just tick that box on the entry page of registration on iTunes that confirmed that.
But I was told that as a CPW/O2 customer that wasnt the case, and thats why CPW created this 'generic' PAC for all customers like myself in order to port my existing number.
frustrating wait

Well if i was to say what i think of CPW here i'd be banned..... i hate them and they know nothing! They told my mum she wasn't allowed to transfer her phone number from her t-mobile contract with them to her new O2 one with them which is total crap..... and as far as i am concerned you were told total crap too

No I checked with O2 and Apple last Thursday, all gave the same answer... current CPW/O2 contract holders need to use the supplied generic PAC in order to keep their number.

You have been told a load of crap believe me. O2 told me i needed a PAC code and i told them they were talking crap and look, mine worked!

EDIT: anyway doesn't matter its to late for you now

Hmm, oh well.
were you an existing O2 customer? or did you come from another service provider?

I have a temp number BTW, the iPhone works, but its just not yet on my old phone number.

O2 direct but i have friends at cpw that did the same as me

you were with O2 direct and yet they still told you that you needed a PAC to port your number??
they really know nothing some of these customer service people....

I know, hence why i told them to get stuffed..... i explained to her why and she said 'maybe you should come work at O2 you seem to know more than we do, we are never told anything' lmao

Incredible...

I am an existing O2 customer, and within 2 mins of activation on Friday night my current number went offline in my Nokia handset.

45 mins later when I got home, I was up and running fully. I was expecting a few days of waiting with a temporary number.

I was shocked at how amazing and efficient the whole experience was.

Full marks to Apple and O2 from me here.

Same here except mine was fully working within 30seconds of activation, fully transferred and operational.

Just a good thing i didn't listen to them Re PAC codes....
Sorry that this is off topic, but did you get that excellent tariff deal that you were promised back in September?

Nope so i am now lodging an official complaint. If they give me a suitable offer in return thats great if not my solicitor is primed and ready

EDIT: And i am sure Trading Standards will be interested.

i had O2 simplicity and it took only a few minutes to put my old number in the new sim.

at the beginning, i didnt know that there was a sim there, and when i started calling and it showed my number, i said, how does it do that? this iphone must be clever, lol :D

then i saw my sim was inactive in my k800i phone and realized it.

PAC code - what's the story ?

Bought my iPhone on Friday but can't use it until I get my PAC code from Vodafone to transfer my number. They seem to be delaying the process.... its been 3 days now.... is this normal ? I've phoned up a million times and told them that I've bought an iPhone and I'm moving to O2 but I get the feeling they think I'll change my mind. In the 3 days I've received no less that 8 sales calls each them after offering me new deals after which telling me my PAC code is still being processed. Are Vodafone screwing me ?

By law they must issue you with a PAC code in 48 hours if you request it.

If they do not do this, complain to OfCom about it.

Just phoned Orange to get my PAC code, and was surprised to be told that I would need to wait for a letter giving me my PAC code.

They would send this first class, which should arrive Wednesday or Thursday.

When I queried whether I could get this over the phone, by text or by e-mail, I was told no - it was industry standard to do it by mail, and they were legally obliged to do it by mail.

Can anyone refute this?
