wow. this will be a dissappointment to all in Ireland and I think that the iPhone won't be much of a success in Ireland. At 1GB, the data plan isn't very bad, but it's psychologically a limit there and that will cause people from wanting to use it fully. Also the minutes/texts plans quite frankly stink, especially without unlimited data. O2 isnt going to succeed with this type of plan, and if they wonder why, they can only blame themselves.

HEY!!! All you Canadians STOP MOANING NOW!!! There are a number of reasons why Apple have not classed you 'worthy' of the iPhone yet...

Alannis Morrisette, Brian Adams & Celine Dion...... Say no more :p

Not so fast! Feist, the 3G iPod nano girl who is coincidentally some kind of musician, is Canadian. That commercial should have scored Canada some iPhone love.

What about the 3G iPhone?

If they are bringing the iPhone to more countries isn't it likely the 3G iPhone won't be seen in May as expected?

Unless the 3G iPhone will be announced March 6th and sold March 14th...
Not gonna happen.

Does Ireland / Austria even have 3G?
Does Ireland / Austria Even have EDGE?

What's the deal? You think the 3G iPhone will be delayed till summer time?
I thought May was perfect... Tax Rebate / Graduation / Fathers Day...

What do you think? When will we see the 3G iPhone?

1Gb is enough, i don't use more than 200MB/month on my iPhone :)

Why instead of wrinting here, you don't send feedback to Apple or O2?

Just compare to the plans you can buy for a standard cellphones in the same country.

On the other hand, I have been with Vodafone for a long time now and they have ALWAYS bent over backwards to help me out and deliver good customer service.

I agree with that, it's whay I won't go to O2 here in Ireland. Their coverage is inferior to Vodafone for a start and Vodafone have customer service that is so far superior it's actually laughable. (I use O2 for work).

After I came back from Dubai with my iPhone I was shocked to get a bill for €400+ !!!! This was after Data roaming, I queried it with Vodafone and discussed it and they agreed to tear up the bill!

I'm on a good plan with Vodafone, 350 texts, data etc

Doesn't Ireland believe in elves? Or is that Iceland?

We have Leprechauns. But they like to be called vertically challenged these days. ;)

Yes Ireland has a fairly extensive 3G map, Yes Ireland has Edge too.

By the looks of it though.... No 3G phone, it's just the same phone from US / UK but using the Irish APN settings for Edge which are for those who want them

Access Point: open.internet
User Name: gprs
Password: gprs

Existing O2 customers in Ireland with unlocked / imported iPhones can attach the broadband add on €15 1gb / €30 10gb to any of their talktime plans.

Basically the Irish iPhone has no benefits over an imported / unlocked one because even Visual Voicemail won't work on the official model.

OK not to cast doubt but what Data plan are you on with Vodafone. I'm with vodafone IE myself.

Their broadband data plan DOES NOT work with the iPhone as it can not use the live.vodafone.com APN that vodafone REQUIRE you to use.

Email correspondence from Vodafone said:
Thank you for contacting us with your query. Please accept our
apologies for the delay in responding to your query.

Unfortunately the live apn will not work with the iphone. We have
done some tests here with it and found the only method of connection
with the iphone is through isp, which is what you're using, or
through wifi. (Which would work out much cheaper for you)
Unfortunately you will be unable to avail of the Mobile Internet add
on as these charges are on the condition that you connect through
Vodafone Live.

Therefore the only other option is to use their GPRS setting APN : isp.vodafone.ie

Which like O2's is expensive at 2c per kb - or the other alternative is

To buy a package for 15MB = €10 and 25MB = €15

I would hardly say that represents great value for money when O2 will give you 1GB for €15

O2 charge 1c per 1kb

1,000kb = 1mb
1,000mb = 1gb

So thats €10 per 1 mb

Thats €1,000 per 1 GB

You might want to reconsider your math, sir. The price per GB is approx. 10,000 yoyos, not 1,000. ;)

To be honest, it might not be an issue. How much you use the internet isn't a static figure, it depends on how fast your connection is, how easy & quick it is to initiate an internet connection, the coverage of the data network, the quality of the online content, etc.. etc..

I used the mobile O2 broadband a lot recently, as it's quite fast (though it flip-flops between 3G and 2.5G fast enough to give you a seizure) and with that device a 1GB per month limit would be a nightmare. With a 2.5G iPhone, you'd probably struggle to download that much in a month if you tried, I reckon.

yes ireland has extensive 3g and edge coverage, and wimax too in the major cities. three of the top carriers have 3g: vodafone, o2 and three so not having 3g is an issue for many here.

the price plans on the iphone just plain suck in ireland:
iphone with o2 uk, lowest plan £35 (€45) a month: 600 minutes, 500 txts, unlimited data, free wifi at hotspots, visual voicemail all on a 18 month contract.

iphone with o2 ireland for €45 (£35) a month: 175 minutes, 100 txts, 1gb data, no free wifi access, no visual voicemail and on a 18 month contract too.

very different plans for the same money. no surprise though, mobile operators in ireland have a nice cozy profit margin on everything. most mobile operators in europe have huge debt, but in irelands the operators are full of money from over charging customers.

I'm using the Three Mobile BB Dongle myself for the past year and just about to switch to either voda or o2 as I found the three to be utterly unreliable. :) Just had to wait until the 12 month contract was up.

I'm not sure how to read this, first we hear about it from O2, not Apple. Then the stingy plan coupled with the fact that the drop-dead-WOW voicemail feature will not be included in any of the plans make me think like a conspiracy theorist ("Pssst, O2 released the iPhone W/O Apples blessings, spread it around!"). Question: if I was shopping for an iPhone in Ireland, why would I think of buying it from O2 when I can purchase one unlocked and use it with a prepaid account?

We keep reading that cellular customers world wide are grabbing unlocked iPhones, some of them paying outrageous amounts for the device while other companies keep on selling their UNLOCKED crappy phones for hundreds of euros. From Apples perspective, such sales amount to lost revenues when one considers that the company could sell the iPhone unlocked for a premium price on its own, given the fact that the bootlegged sales are taking some of the novelty of the device away from the customer who chooses to wait until the iPhone is finally released officially in his or her country.

Just been to the irish apple site and no sign of the iphone there. why doesn't apple put up the infamous iphone tab? in other countries it was up weeks and weeks before the official release. what's wrong with apple? are they embarrassed that they pulled such a crappy deal with o2?

does anybody know of any online petition against o2's ripp-off price plan?

Its on the homepage of the apples irish site only a little picture in the bottom left corner. And there is a tab but it just brings you to a page telling you to go to the UK site to get more info. Talking about keeping it low key compared to when the UK got the iPhone.

Has anyone tried buying an iPhone in ireland without setting up the account there and then?

My motherland! Apple really is attempting to expand rapidly. Smart marketing team.
