OK, so I thought I'd play along even though I know my contract doesn't expire till next January. I entered my phone number and got an upgrade code by Text. Cool, I thought, I'm one of the ones who O2 are going to let upgrade early.

So, I eagerly entered the upgrade code into the relevant box and...

It said "You can't upgrade yet as you are not in the last month of your contract"

Got to laugh - they had me going for a minute :D

So,
Are you eligible to upgrade: No
When does your contract expire: Jan '10
What Tariff: £45.00 + 7.50 insurance

I was until 9 months then went down to £35 :) and added unlimited texts. Good i love MMSing people all day lol
I have got to warn you that MMS's are not included in the unlimited text bold on. For MMS you can only use the standard amount for the contract, which is 500 texts, so you can only send 125 free MMS's a month, sorry!

O2 insists that you get a £10 topup SIM card on PAYG, but the Apple store are giving the £10 back as a voucher for people who have a 3G contract. Staff are aware of how unhappy 3G contract users are.

I don't think they'll change their position now - if they do they will have thousands of disgruntled customers like yourself who have paid a lot of money for a PAYG phone in order to upgrade early.

As an upgrade apparently.... hopefully it will stay that way, don't really want another contract :)

Dear Mr Matt XXXXXXXX,

Thanks for your upgrade order. We're currently processing your request and will update you shortly on its progress.

O really! Well at least the rest of the unlimited i can use of real texts lol

Edit: Thanks for the heads up!

re. my earlier post
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/725364/

I've now been able to order my upgrade online and have had an email saying its being processed.

I think their is some glitch relating to the fact that last year i upgraded from the original iPhone to the 3G, but i reckon the system is seeing my original contract for the first iPhone and thinks my contract is fully expired

BTW I ordered a 32G, on the £45 tariff @ £97
just logged into O2 and I can see its scheduled for delivery tomorrow morning - I paid the extra £9 for Saturday delivery

Hey guys,

Yeah im the same I have an iPhone 3G and for some reason it says on my 02 page that my contract has expried already......I spoke to someone who works for o2 and he said they make balls ups like that all the time and take advantage of the situation.

Just tried the upgrade page on my O2, and it didn't work for me. Just told me I wasn't eligable. :(

I just tried the 02 website upgrade and it went through just fine as an upgrade. I type te code in they sent me and then went on to order a 32gb White 3gs!

Fingers crossed! By the way I'm eligable for an upgrade till December 09!

Did you upgrade from the iPhone to the iPhone 3G?

Maybe this is the theme where the mistakes are being made?

Am I going to the right site then?

I log into My O2. Go to the shop and then hit upgrade online.

Get the text sent to my phone, and then enter it.

"Sorry, you're not elligable message" pops up

Try again, and the waiting whirlygig shows up on a grayed out page, then it times out and tells me that O2 can't upgrade me online and I should call customer services.

Is there anything different you guys are doing?

this is the link i went to
https://upgrades.o2.co.uk/index.htm#getMPN

but i think it all comes down to whether or not you upgrade from 2G to 3G, and whether the O2 system is still viewing your contract start date as when you first got the 2G

I just think O2's systems are in a complete mess - according to their "My O2" website, my upgrade eligibility isn't until 13th November 2010!
However, when I contacted them about it they replied as follows:

Thanks for emailing us about your upgrade date.

Phil, I've checked your account and can confirm you that you'll be eligible to upgrade your current contract on or after 14 December 2009 as our Pay Monthly customers' can only upgrade their contract one month before their contract end date.

I'm sorry that your upgrade date is incorrect on your online account. This is a known fault and we're working to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

So, if you're lucky and they have the date wrong but earlier, you will probably be able to use their messed up systems to your advantage.

How much do you pay per month: £95-£100

bastards (o2)

i took the 3g on release last year. according to o2's criteria i should be able to upgrade 6 months early but they wont let me cos they wont apply the tiering system until october.
despite every single last bill being over 80 for the last 8 months.

If you regularly spend that much you'll be classified as a platinum member and eligible to upgrade 6 months early which would be July 10th this year. Give them a call...
