believe me i tried

they WILL NOT reclassify which customer you are until october. WILL NOT.
last july (o8) i had a tiny bill so thats it cos they looked at 4 months prior to october to classify.
they will not look now despite a lot of my bills being £200+++
wankers.

this is a fun game to pass time until I go look at one in the o2 shop

I keep getting 'we cannot upgrade yo uonline at present please call CS'

Weirdly I have gone to the upgrade page and if I select the 16gb and the £45 p/m contract (which I'm currently on) then I get a subsidized upgrade

See what I mean

I normally spend about £75 p/m and I am not currently down as gold or platinum. ALso I tried to do this last week and it didn't work. Shame I don't have the spare cash to do this :(

I'm a bit confused...

I upgraded to a 3G (from original iPhone) on the launch day. Which means I shouldn't be able to upgrade until something like December.

However, on the upgrade site, I am able to select an upgrade to the 3G S, with the 35/mo package etc etc and I've done everything other than submitting the upgrade request!

Does this mean that I can actually upgrade early? I don't want to incur any other charges or anything by doing this, but it does show the handset cost as normal, as well as the monthly bill cost.

Flipping heck!

Anybody under the same circumstances as me should try this - the o2 website just flipping let me upgrade!!

  • I bought the first generation iPhone on launch day.
  • I upgraded to the iPhone 3G on launch day, on a £45 a month contract.
  • I usually spend slightly more than £50 a month (due to 0845 numbers etc).
  • On the phone, o2 told me that my contract ends in Jan 2010, but I can upgrade in October 2009.
  • The o2 website still said that my contract ended in May 2009.

And about an hour ago I went onto the o2 website, went through the upgrade screens, and it worked!

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS on its way - still on a £45 a month contract, for £87!

Try it!!

Matt,

If it's not too rude, how much do you spend with o2 per month? Looking at this thread and those on other forums it seems to be those spending a wedge of ££££ everymonth (moblies, usb modems, broadband all totalled together) who are actually qualifiting as Platinum customers who are being succesfull.

John,

No problem :) I'm on the £45 p/m tariff and have the £7.50 Insurance bolt on.

I was an 2G user and have tried upgrade my other o2 account which has only ever had a iPhone 3G on it, no go on that one unfortunately.

The odd thing is when I emailed o2 last week I was advised that I am on Silver, which is where I would expect to be given my monthly spend and would be eligible to upgrade in October.

Hope this helps,

Matt.

Am I the only sucker paying £45 p/m?
Nope!

Are you eligible to upgrade: No
When does your O2 contract end: Dec '09 (*)
How much do you pay per month: £45

* O2 gave me a one month "priority list" improvement on my upgrade date. I changed my contract down to the £35 one two days ago. I was only staying on the £45 contract because I thought that I might get better subsidised pricing on the upgrade. How wrong I was!

well that blows my theory.

though i looks like you have upgraded on a 2G contract that has presumably gone beyond its contractural period (18 or 24 months)?

That's my theory, though on My o2 is states that I shouldn't be able to upgrade until Jan 2010 and my previous iPhone 3G upgrade is still listed in the My Orders section.

Sounds like o2 need to sort out their system!

I'm on the £35/mo contract, it doesn't usually go much over £38. No bolt ons or insurance or anything. I upgraded to the 3G on launch day, but did that in store not online.

And I am able to upgrade online to the 3G S for some reason!

just got this email from O2

Just tried mine and NO DEAL!! Was on £45 for 9 months then £35. Contract runs to 12 January 2010. Want to swap an upgrade Mister ED?? :D

Part of me wants to try this, part of me says if I do, I'll only be in the same situation next year.

Another part, or course, says that I can't technically afford £275...

EDIT:
Sorry but you are not currently eligible to upgrade. You can upgrade when you're in the last month of your contract. To check your contract renewal date visit My O2.

Bugger. Oh well, that settles that then :)

I have now been sent an email confirming that the phone has been posted. why do you reckon it has let some people upgrade online hen they are clearly not eligible?

Right....

I tried the upgrade thing...and it seems to be allowing it??

I'm on the £45 with £7.50 insurance but have had a few big months in my time a £250 a few over £100.

I filled in all the stuff and the O2 page shows no one off cost and just the usual £44.05 a month?! Does this mean I can upgrade for free? The only thing different is the contract seems to now be 24 months rather than 18...is this right?

Thanks, bit confused as I;m not expecting an upgrade...upped the pic too

Should be fine.
After I upgraded (which I was definitely not eligible for) I suddenly panicked and thought what if they charge me two lots of tariffs !?! I emailed O2 and go the following response:

"Thank you for emailing us about upgrading your contract with us.

When you upgrade your contract with us, the tariff on your account will be changed automatically to the tariff you've selected at the time of upgrades. This means you won't end up paying twice to us."

You can still get an 18 month contract, you can either have 18 or 24 months. Just go back to the option where you selected your tariff.

cheers...just checked it's free on 24 month and £185 on 18 month contract... I would like it but may just give it a miss till next year...

My order is "in process" I've recieved no confirmation email but it's now listed on my transaction screen. Would be nice if come Monday I have a lovely new 32GB 3Gs waiting for me on my return home.

But if o2 turn aroundand say "hey wait a minute... You can't have that" it's no big loss.

I guess i won't find out until tomorrow as I ordered it At like 9:45? Anyone else order the same time and get confirmation?
Cheers

Where are people going to check their upgrade status, i found the ungrade link in my o2 and was presented with a page asking for my mobile number. they would then send me a texet with a number to re enter into the upgrade website, telling me whether i can upgrade or no. unfortunatly it said no. is this the site people are going to?
