Hi Emotion,

Sorry nothing from o2 yet, once they email me I'll post it.

There could be an announcement today though as it is release day & a friday (which is when they usually let us o2 business customers know).

This information doesn't appear to be correct. For the stations listed in the Plymouth area, I've been to a few of those locations and never picked up an EDGE connection on my iPhone. The dates are listed as being completed in October.

You know I was thinking that too. First trip into work and no EDGE all the way as expected. A picked it up a couple of times in Manchester.

Hmm O2, sort it out.

I have the same experience, several of the towers listed are close to me and one is even only two streets away(Cambridge) however I am yet to pick up an edge signal(although the gprs speeds do seem fast)

Whereabouts are you in Cambridge? I managed to get an EDGE signal in the Grafton Centre on Saturday.

I live just above midsummer common and I believe that one of the ariels they were meant to be upgrading is just above Chesterton road. I go to college every day near the top of trumpington road every day and I have even worse signal there than I did previously. Not very impressed with O2 considering that it looked like most of Cambridge was going to be covered going on the information earlier in this thread.

No EDGE at most of the upgraded towers in Glasgow either
Only getting GPRS at home and in my city centre office but noticed the "E" displayed on the southside near Ibrox Stadium. Strange.

Please report back. I'm curious to see what you find.

Well, I've been in Liverpool since 8.00am (in the Derby Square area) and I have only spotted EDGE coverage for about 5 minutes. There is actually an O2 shop across the road so i suppose they restrict their demonstrations to wi-fi.

What's more the GPRS speed here is painfully slooow. Very disappointed.

No wonder O2 are too ashamed/frightened to publish a coverage map. There ain't nothing to see on it!

Pleasantly surprised that it's in our area already, quite a small town.

Contrast against Three... still can't pick that up most places, and that's the most widespread 3G network... makes me wonder whether 3G is really worth it considering it gets rolled out *ridiculously* slowly in comparison.

I have been connecting using EDGE in Glasgow city centre without issue. Cumbernauld and surrounding areas are also EDGE activated.

Just got off he phone with a guy at o2, he said that o2 will be releasing a interner service to check the edge coverage in your local area on Monday 19th November.

this is a fault of the whole mobile industry in the UK.

they wasted so much money on the 3G networks they purposely didn't develop EDGE as they knew it was about as fast as 3G (not HSDPA) and would undermine new phones.

now 3G has been a flop as its just a low latency battery guzzler (don't get me wrong, HSDPA is great for laptops, I have a tmobile modem....).

the other point to note is that EDGE is an extension of GPRS/GSM and all cell-stations being sold now have it built in. Therefore as cellstations are replaced from time to time eventually it is just whether the operators want to switch it on or not.

i find it faster then 3G as you don't have to switch on for data. Also EDGE uses the GSM bands of 1800 and 900. 900 has better penetration then 1800 and the 2100 used for UMTS.

So I for one are glad that O2 was forced to start turning on EDGE and I wasn't forced to use 3G on my mobile.

However, some kind of low power chipset for HSDPA is the way to go for the future..... I think Jobs said that this was what he was waiting for.

Hmm, I know I get EDGE reception from the one in CB1 2PD. I would be interested if anyone has picked up coverage from the central one (CB2 3ET) and (CB3 9LN) or roughly queen's road...

Near the University. Went for a walk and EDGE faded in and out a few times. Maybe they need to install it on more towers.

Cool, I was stuck at the Countess hospital most of yesterday and couldn't get it, hopefully they will expand coverage soon.

If anyone is interested, I spoke to O2 earlier, and they have told me that the EDGE coverage map will be available on the 29th November. Better late than never I suppose.

anyone managed to find this map from o2 yet??

I live about 200 yards away from one of the masts in sunderland that were "supposed" to be upgraded on the 18/10/07 and guess what?? No EDGE to speak of. I work 17 miles away in a small village in durham and guess what?? EDGE all the way.

I can't understand them upgrading a tower in a small village and not in a large city

Seaham (SR7) has it, and Newcastle (NE1) doesn't. Go figure.
