Only thing I support Obama on so far, remember guys, HE didn't kill Bin Laden, Seal Team 6 did.

But he have the go-ahead while Dubya just sat on his hands. They've known where Osama was since 2001, they just wanted to give the enemy a face.

The difference between Obama and God is that Obama actually exists.

He has also done stuff unlike the mythical flying man in the sky.

Uh, you forgot that God creates gummy bear civilizations so yea he exists.

Have you guys seen how well the economy is doing?

Uh yea, I get emails daily about how to make extra money. Every time I read nfl.com I see comments about how to make $100hr from home surfing the web.

My employer is doing so well they offered me a 25% raise too. It's going lovely.

Note: Due to the political nature of the skin color of the twice-elected leader of the US, all of his successes are underreported and soon forgotten, his failures are unforgivably worse than other leaders', right-wing hysterical lies go unchecked by even mainstream "journalists" under the guise of "balance," and problems created before he took office undergo time travel to become his fault, while credit for his solutions goes mysteriously to his opponents, even though they will turn against their own principles and past ideas simply because a moderate president agrees with them and they'd rather make sure that no good ideas are allowed to happen in the US until the proper skin color has returned to power (which they manage to convince themselves on the surface is no part of their thinking). Therefore, this otherwise purely fact-based and non-controversial (unless you believe governments should answer to their corporate masters) discussion thread is located in our Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum.

Your race card has expired.

I'm so sorry! I forgot about that...

If you already own the phone, why does it have to be locked in the first place? You simply exchange the subsidy with a contract. There is no reason for the phone itself to be locked.

Typical short-sighted reaction of a government to put band aids over band aids instead of treating the actual problem. If you want real solution, repeal the DMCA (which causes the problem to begin with), or simply ban provider locking for good. Adding new laws on top of laws with exceptions here and there is not a real solution.

You've piqued my interest. Can you walk us through the math as my wife's and son's contracts expire in a month or so and they really need to get new mobile phones. TIA.

Sure. Lets say you sign a new 2 year contract with AT&T. Unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data. You get a 16GB iPhone 5S, which you pay $199 for. The plan costs $80 per month, but then of course there are taxes and wireless fees tacked onto the bill. Where I live in New Hampshire, the rate is 13.77% which brings the $80 bill up to roughly $91. The contract price of the phone, plus your monthly bill of $91 over the course of 24 months would cost $2,383.

Now lets say you instead go with Cricket Wireless, which is owned by AT&T and uses their LTE network. You pay full cost for the iPhone 5S which is $649. You then get what they call the Smart plan: unlimited talk and text and 2.5GB of data for $50 per month. However, you opt for auto-pay allowing them to automatically charge your debit/credit card, and they deduct $5 from your monthly bill. This $45 includes all taxes and fees. The $649 for the phone, plus $45 over the course of 24 months would cost $1,729 which would save you $654 over two years.

The math will vary of course, depending on what phone you get and what plan, but the savings is obvious. You can go to this site to find out what your tax percentage is: http://bit.ly/1ndNQvu

Also worth noting is overage fees. If you go over your allotted data with AT&T they charge you for extra data automatically. With Cricket, after your allotted data they throttle you and give you the option of buying more data at full speed.

Show a little intelligence:

1) Saying God doesn't exist is only going to piss people off, unless people already agree with you.

2) God isn't some 'mythical flying man in the sky'.

I thought the original topic was the unlocking bill and it's impact -- not Obama's presidency.

I don't think there was any need for this thread to go so political and wish the moderators would have kept it on topic.

A separate thread could have been started in the PRSI for those wanting to discuss his presidency and not the bill.

Yep... It's a shame that insurance companies can no longer have lifetime maximums and have to accept pre-existing conditions, especially for people who have life-long conditions like my nephew who is a 3 years old hemophilia that needs 3 shots a day that cost $1,700 EACH (yep, about $1.8 million a YEAR). But healthcare is less important than a couple extra bucks in your pocket.

I'm not a fan of any President because they all have secret agendas but I think it's funny how someone can bitch about Obama and call him un-American because he is trying to get us up to par with policies other countries have implemented that worked very well. Yeah, maybe "Obama-care" isn't perfect but it's better than doing nothing like the alternative would have been.

You have to understand that the right-wing haters are angry because Obamacare/Romneycare/Heritage Foundationcare doesn't cover recreational Oxycontin.

Ok, so lets say you decide to buy an phone from T-mobile, AT&T, Verizon or whoever, and you pay full price for the phone up front. Does it mean that the phone can be unlocked upon your request, or do you still have to use the carriers services for 30 to 90 days before they would unlock it? Or will the OEM be able to provide you with the unlock code since it was paid up front?

Why not just buy the unlocked phone from Apple or Amazon or ... ? That is what I have been doing on T-Mobile. T-Mobile is happy to activate your third-party phone. It also works when you switch SIMs and phones, as is handy sometimes. (I hate nano-SIMs.)

I bought a Galaxy S4 last year and I plan on buying the Galaxy Note 4 next month. I'm not particularly looking for an iPhone or stock Android phone.

My option is to buy the Galaxy Note 4 on T-Mobile cash and then take it to my carrier, MetroPCS. I don't need it unlocked to do so, but since I pay for my phones up front, I like to know it's completely unlocked just in case for the future or what not.

So with this law, I wanna know if I pay for the phone upfront, will it be unlocked upon my request, or will I still be required to use the carriers service for 30 to 90 days before they provide me with an unlock code?

If you are paying full price then it already has to be unlocked.

And all he done on it was sign a piece of paper. It was congress who passed the law, not Obama. Politics 101.

Well that explains why Obama hasn't accomplished much. The Republican do-nothing House has done nothing.

No, I wish that were the case, but it isn't. When I bought my phone on T-mobile last year, completely paid off up front, they wouldn't unlock it unless I would have 40 days of good service with them. Paying for the phone up front wasn't enough for them  lol

I think the credit people are talking about is Obama actually giving the go ahead to the operation. Not that Obama found Bin Laden.

Yeah, he gets credit for actually giving the order to invade the sovereign airspace and conduct a military operation on the ground in Pakistan without prior notification or permission.

Asked point-blank if he'd do this as president in a debate, the other major candidate said he would not.

So yeah, Obama gets credit for saying he would, then actually doing so, and considering how it all turned out it certainly seemed to be the right call.

SEAL Team 6 goes where they're ordered to go.

Sounds like something wasn't right there as that shouldn't be the case.

I think it's the carriers policies, not to unlock phones unless you use their services for X amount of days. T-Mobile is about 40 days of service, AT&T requires you to use their service for 60 days before they unlock it. Even if you pay up front for the phone.

It didn't turn out to be an issue for me because MetroPCS runs using T-Mobile's network. Still, I was hoping this unlocking bill would eliminate that part. If you pay for the phone completely, it should be unlocked upon request, regardless if you end up using their services or not.
