A stack of junk mail - adverts...

On the same note- maybe you shouldn't show up to class- then call your teacher (assuming he has a phone in the classroom) and interrupt the class to offer him insurance or new phone service...

Or just skip class and go to hte beach.

G'luck !:)

A copy of John Kenneth Galbraith's The Affluent Society
Which in the late 50's warned about the power of large corporations and mass advertising superceding the supposed marketplace checks and controls of a 'free market' economy

http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/a/affluent.asp
"An affluent society, as the term was used ironically by Galbraith, is rich in private resources but poor in public ones because of a misplaced priority on increasing production in the private sector. Galbraith argued that industrial production was being devoted to satisfying trivial consumer needs, in part to maintain employment, and that the United States should shift resources to improve schools, the infrastructure, recreational resources, and social services, providing a better quality of life instead of an ever greater quantity of consumer goods. "

For authenticity, the book should be tear-stained, to represent the failure of society to heed the warning, and to commemorate JKG's passing yesterday.

A black & white cookie. :D

I ate at the place where the first black and white cookie was ever made. :)

My first thought was a Big Mac, supersize fries and a supersize diet soda, but I guess I'm not that original.

My second idea was a jerry can of gas...representing our society's dependence on fossil fuels, and the importance of fossil fuels in the U.S. today. (Think about it for a second. Think about everything in our culture that depends on fossil fuel.)

Wow. You definitely get the A+

Pretend to gun down a dark looking guy and take his oil. ;) You're in New Zealand. Finding someone with a darker complexion can't be too difficult, and grabbing a bottle of oil from the supermarket.......perrrfect.

And I know I sound like an idiot to Americans when I say this (and pretty much everything else I say), but when I see apple pie, I think "Canada." :p Apple pie, pancakes, maple syrup, doughnuts (eg: Tim Hortons!), and even bagels.......all a symbol of Canada to me.

Maybe other Canucks can back me up on this one? CanadaRAM? Anybody?

Bring nothing.

When the teacher asks, "Why didn't you bring anything?", you can tell him or her that America wasted all the world's resources and there was nothing left that you could bring without endangering the health of other students.

Alternatively, bring a cheap mp3 player and say that it represents Wal-Mart.

Alternative #2: Bring a lump of coal and say that it represents 50% of America's fossil-fuel usage and fossil-fuel dependence in general. (inspired by the awesome posters above me)

That's risky. You don't want to accidentally fail the poor boy, do you? It would be hard not to if someone else in the class completely forgot about this and didn't bring anything either. What if he says, "Oh....um.....yeah, I didn't bring anything either, and for the same reason."

Just bring a basketball and as much money as possible. Oh, being black would help make your point more blunt. Can you be black?

Try the American Flag and see what kind of response you get. Kind of hard to argue against it symbolizing America.

Or see if you could get a copy of the original unabridged Constitution. Then draw a line through all the modified and deleted sections, while keeping the text readable.

I ended up using the bottle of coke. No body else brought it! :)

Lots of people brought in stuff that you recomended. Starbucks, Xbox controller, a disney movie, an iBook (they forgot and took one out of our iBook cart  ), SideKick, etc. etc.

Thanks for the help. :D

in a huge container bring in an enormous meal, eat a few bites and throw it away. nothing screams america like the sheer volume of our waste.
