Thinness at expense of a little battery life in the 6+ is fine for me. IMO in this one they got it spot on. I get a day and a half use and a thin enough phone that I'm finally happy enough to put it in a case.

Thinness at expense of structural rigidity though? That's not on.

Why is Apple so obsessed with making iPhones and iPad thinner at the expense of battery size/life? The incredible advances they make in power sipping processors every year is negated by the barely adequate battery size. Why can't they make the iPhone and iPad 1 mm thicker and put a bigger battery in there? I don't think anybody would complain. Most people use a case with the iPhone and iPad anyway, so the marginal return on thinness that a user gets is much less than the marginal return you get from improved battery life.

I hope Apple sees the light of the day sooner and gives what people really want on their smartphones and tablets - better battery life.

Tired of people whining about thinness, seriously! One of the things I really like about iPhone 6 is that it doesn't feel like a brick in a pocket or hand. Any weight/thickness removed from a portable device is a bonus and I am glad Apple continue to do that. 1 full day of battery life is good enough for me as I have the tendency to sleep once every 24 hours and when I do, my portable devices get charged for the next day.

I seriously don't understand the obsession with battery life. iPhone 6/6 plus and iPad already have a great battery life. But there is just no way of satisfying some people.

I don't mind thin... but definitely not when it's sacrificing durability and battery life.

Give me 2mm thicker and 40% better battery and 150 lb bend please

If they couldve done that Im sure they wouldve. People act like having a bigger battery automatically solves their problem but it doesnt. There are trade offs in engineering. They may have weighed those and found the trade offs arent worth it.

Disagree with the OP strongly. I want a very thin iPhone, iPad, Macbook Pro, and iMac.

I believe Apple is delivering exactly what customers want: thin, light, stylish tech that works.

the iPhone is too thin, period. No arguing about it and no personal opinions. It's literally unusable without a case due to its thinness. I feel like I'm gonna drop the phone cause I can't get a sense of feel for it

MacBooks, iMacs and tablets are a different category.

dear all those who want their phones fatter,
there is a plethora of companies that already produces phones that meet ur requirements.

so can pple stop ranting about this already? it's getting old.

No it isn't. Your opinion is not objective fact.

I think Apple is very much in touch with its customers. I just completed my Apple Market Research survey last night. It was sent by Apple to me in email. I've had my phone 5 weeks now, so they even made sure I had time with the phone so I could provide useful feedback on the features as opposed to quick first impressions. And I'm sure the survey is just one part of all of the market research that they do.

If Apple wants to go thinner, it wouldn't bother me, but I do think there needs to be a balance between design, function, and what technology will support. IMO, Apple shouldn't go any thinner until the camera can fit flush again, but I'm just one opinion in millions of customers.

It is a fact because any one with a brain understands that holding a thin sheet of metal is not ergonomic in your hands.

I agree. There is a limit due to the pain a thin edge will inflict on your hand while your finger is pressing on the screen during use. An obvious extreme would be razor thin where the phone edge cuts into your skin. Decreasing the thickness to credit-card width would be uncomfortable for most people. The 6+ is very near the comfort zone for skin pressure. Making it another 1-2 mm thinner and a certain percent of people will fine it unusable.

Have you ever tried using the phone on the road for a full day, looking at maps, checking emails, taking pictures etc. without having access to a charger? It won't make it past 5 pm. Maybe it is possible that not everyone has the same use case as you? Maybe? Just a thought.

Jesus, not sure if you are serious. Sure I have. I have camped on Alps for 3 to 4 days away from the electricity and still had my iPhone and GoPro camera fully charged. I have the right tool to use for these days when am expecting myself to be away from the civilization and lack of electricity.

On these +/- 330 days of the year when I am not in the mountains or deserts, I don't need to carry bulk in my pockets, thank you very much.

When they had the keynote for their new iMac and touted "thinner and lighter" I was legitimately in disbelief, and got quite a kick out of it. Seriously? A desktop? Must a desktop be thinner and lighter?

I personally think the iPhones and iPads are thin enough. The 6+ is going to be my first phone that I've ever put in a case....which kind of defeats the purpose of thinner, doesn't it?

And on the iMac they killed all hope of upgradability.....not like I was shocked by that but its getting pretty frustrating that no Mac's will be tinkerable outside the Mac Pro and even that is in question....I know Apple wants the iMac to be just a piece of glass on the wall but its getting a bit rediculous.

Do you use solar power as well? Just curious. I have a buddy that does allot of video with GoPro and some other stuff and he has two USB solar panel type devices...of course here in Upstate NY its a bit dreary and sun can be an issue, I'm sure living in the UK that might be a common problem too :p

No, have never used solar power. From what I have read it is not to effective and it takes long time to charge a small %. External charger like the one linked above does the magic for me when I am away from home. I only charge that once and that keeps my gadgets charged for 2 or three days when am away.

Yeah I mean I don't expect it to do wonders (the solar panel charger) but it might make a good adjunct to your power brick...I've had power bricks magically drain only to find out I have very low battery once I'm where I need to be.

Extra battery life (24 hours or whatever) do not help Apple generate sustained sales revenue. By capping new battery life at 8 - 10 hours, the battery life span on a full charge degrades to 4 - 5 hours over the course of two years of usage. At that point, the choice for the user is either pay $$ for battery replacement or update to new hardware. Given (anecdotal) the number of people on MR who justify new hardware purchases by citing reduced battery span on their old phones - this works in Apple's favor. If Apple started off with 24 hours or more off the bat; the battery wear curve would last 3+ years before it falls below a single business day usage without charge.

A big part of the allure of the iPhone 6 is its thinness. It contributes a MAJOR part to the experience & feel of using the phone! Trust me when I say this.

If Apple is so out of touch with you (the customer), then vote with your wallets and buy a different device.
By purchasing the iPhone 6/6 Plus, you are telling them that their design works for you.
Now, if you like the phone/OS, then slap a case on it. In fact, get a battery case for it, like a Mophie. Then, you have a thick phone AND extra battery life, just like you wanted.

Apple is underdelivering, there's a whole thread in here complaining about how the 6plus doesn't have enough ram. Mine stutters anytime I'm doing 2 or more tasks at once.

1 gig isn't cutting it and that's become the general consensus even in this forum. 1st time I can say my experience isn't smooth with an iPhone.
How can iPad, which has more pixels, cut it with one fog of ram and 6 plus can't

As long as the battery lasts a whole day of heavy usage, it can be as thin as they want.

My 6 plus isn't close to lasting all day. And I have everything turned off, push, transparency reduce motion. Etc etc etc.

I wonder if your usage is as heavy as mine. For my usage a 4000 mah bat would be ideal and I'd give up thinness for that in a heartbeat.
