Okay, for one thing, I wouldn't read too much into the red curtains--curtains are used for a lot of things, not just in movie theaters. Curtains are used to hide big surprises, like...maybe 3GHz dual core PowerMacs. I really hope they do not release new iPods. Seriously, Apple needs to draw more focus to their computer lines. The iPod is great and everything but they just released a new iPod, do we really need another new model so soon?

I would potentially be interested in buying a nice new PowerBook, especially if they drop the price a little (haha, yeah right). I don't know what they could really do to the PowerBook that would warrent a press conference, though, so I'm guessing the "one more thing" is going to be about the PowerMacs and the PBs might get a small update on the side. I would be very happy if Apple manages to pull something really cool off with the PBs, though.

I don't understand the curtains metaphor on the invitation if the event is to announce new PowerPC products.

Maybe they're "pulling the curtains" on the PPC--just a thought--or maybe its one last encore.

However, I think it is unlikely that they'll be introducing new Powerbooks and PowerMacs at this event if they still have PPC processors. I don't think we'll get a big event for Macs until the switch to Intel processors.

My guess is new iPods with video capabilities or a new set-top box with movie download service. I have no proof for either other than rumors here and there.

I'm looking forward to the announcement anyway--no matter what the product is or whether I will actually buy it.

I find it rather hard to believe that Apple would call a media event to introduce speed bumped Macs, unless Intel versions were ready which is highly unlikely. I have to go with AppleInsider on this one, this is almost certainly going to be an iPod centric event.

not really...

the iPod nano was the BIG thing of the event there... it WAS the one more thing after the phone. I think this is completely different...

whos to say it can't be seriously upgraded powerbooks or seriously upgraded powermacs? they do have awhile before these lines will see the intel chips.

who knows... the info seems to point to the video iPod... as much as i think it's a neat sounding gadget... it just doesn't seem to be there yet.

we'll see in a few days

The red curtain very much suggests a movie tie in.

Music videos (smaller downloads, music-related) make sense as a next step for iTunes, and maybe even for iPods. But movies?

The red curtain is making me think the event could be the wireless AirPort thing, with a home theater connection.

In any case, "One more thing" doesn't say "Macs" to me.

The Godfather at Intel Corp. will not be pleased if Apple introduces new PPC Macs. Besides, any update they make would be greeted with "too little too late" and "lame duck". I'd bet on AppleInsider over ThinkSecret this time.

These are the same red curtains that greet you when you open iDVD

"Home Theatre" is the key word(s) there.you got it right imho.

IMO, upgrades should be kept for things like WWDC, for some reason I dont see Apple making as big a deal as this about powermac/powerbook upgrades. I think it'll be a video ipod, or somehing new maybe?

VERRRY observant! That definitely points to video-related announcement(s).

Hmmm. a curtain and "one more thing" - curtain call for the PPC? One last hurrah with a top o' the line 2.5Ghz DDP G5+ before going Intel? Makes more sense than a video iPod.
Hell I might even be tempted to upgrade my revA DP2.0 if they do that. Not that I need any more speed/power than I have, but there's no such thing as too much power...

NEW CINEMA DISPLAY?

Ok,
let's assume TS is right. PB and PM will be upgrade, Then here is my thought:

The red curtains seems to mean Theater or Movies. These then could entail 3 things IMHO:

New Cinema Display larger than 44"
DVR device/Itunes movie store
AV Airport xpress

my 2 cents

Perhaps it's a final curtain call for the PowerPC. (sadly)

more to it...

I agree. Jobs may mention PB and PM upgrades (released earlier in the day?), but that is hardly mainstream press newsworthy.

There will be something significant that is applicable to the non-mac community.

I'm hoping for Airport Epress Video with supporting software/hardware for movies, TV and other media.

I think I'm asking for too much, but one likes to dream.

The rumor mill is out of control for this media event. So the following are the proposed updates:

PowerMac Dual Dual-Core G5
PowerBook G4 HD
AirPort Express A/V
iPod A/V

I think it's finally here. The much anticipated 3Ghz PowerMac G5, however it's secretly an overclocked 2.95Ghz G5.

At what point does all your head explode from trying to guess what is behind the curtain... Remember do not pay attention to the man behind the current...

The fact there are two sites with obviously two different sources of information with two completely different stories do you not think people at apple are laughing their asses off at you all. At least you are providing them some entertainment value.

Funny to think that some folks think he means a G5 processor powered iPod.

it's 5th generation for any newbs. thought i'd get that out of the way.

:D

This finally makes some sense... no WAY would apple release video ipods right after releasing the nano. It would cut into their nano sales. Updated Powermacs and powerbooks make perfect sense and seem to agree with the earlier rumor that the updated powerbooks would be delayed (and not released at Paris) due to technical problems.

This makes sense to me Nano mixed with what Steve has said about video iPods. I think if the 5th gen iPods were a mere form factor change they would have happened at the same time as the nano. Two iPod introductions so close just doesn't feel right. 7 days to go *sigh*
