I would say he does still have the final say, but if he was against something and so many around him were advising otherwise, he certainly might take a gamble on him being wrong for once.WRXHokie said:The personal media market in terms of video players is almost non-existant. So no one is getting ahead of him in this arena. Also, i think most would agree that Steve does what he thinks is best and doesnt listen to others when it comes to this sort of thing. Otherwise OS X would be running on intel boards a long time ago, macs would be all intel already, and video ipods would be on the 2nd or 3rd generation by now.

I admit it would be nice for him to have a working prototype to show off, but he will want to save showing off the actual MacIntels when they are being launched. I am still convinced the designs will change and their will be extra features that are some way off final yet, so a demonstration of what they can do now would be nice.Peace said:Red curtains normally infer the introduction of something new..
One more thing..
Here's the first Mactel Powerbook..
Wait till you see whats up our sleeve for next year.

I know many that are already manufacturing such devices, so could steal a hold on that end of the market. Also, as more switch to their phones as mp3 players, apple will need to move into this all round entertainment device anyway, so why not do it now. I can guarantee if they launch it with low expectations and no advertising, the fact that apple have launched it, the name iPod attached to it and the unpaid media interest in the device will be enough for many to stop and wonder why they never thought of buying one before. Sales of video/mp3 players apple or not will soar overnight from an handful to a small niche crowd.
