Final update.
Ordered Sept 14 from Apple website. 128 GB matte black unlocked. Paid full price. Showed delivery between Oct 7 - Oct 13.
Card had pending charge on Sunday Sept 18
Phone change from processing to preparing for shipment on Monday Sept 19.
Stayed that way until Thursday, when it went back to processing......then later that day, back to preparing for shipment.
Phone shipped Saturday Sept 24 with delivery scheduled for the 27th
This is so infuriating. Ordered 9/9 at 6:30 AM CDT. 7+ MB 128 GB AT&T. Delivery 10/4-10/10. Still processing. No charge. Nothing. Others after me are shipping and I'm stuck in processing hell. I'm so frustrated with the process this time that I am about ready to cancel the whole thing. My 6S+ is looking more and more like what I should stay with.
Can someone talk me off the ledge?

I go through it every upgrade - I contemplate giving Android a try. I was looking at the Note 7 , but of course, for now, Ill pass. I am curious about Google's "Pixel" phones that should be announced soon. My only experience with Android has been my work on call phone (a samsung galaxy that is absolutely infuriating to use) and a Nexus tablet that I hated due to battery life (and I of course got an iPad mini to replace it). It's the apple ecosystem that keeps me firmly in place. But if there is not a significant change to next years phone, size wise with the plus model to make it more handleable, and some features to catch up to the competition - wireless charging, fast charging, I may finally give in.This is so infuriating. There's no rhyme or reason for why my phone was shipped when it did. Due to being on vacation, plus failure in trying to get the iPhone upgrade program thing for my wife and I (two people with credit scores 800+, 4 credit cards with no balance between them, and two different SSN's could not get approved from Citizens Bank) led me to ordering my phone on the 14th. I fully expected it to come mid-late October, and was fine with that. To have it shipped when it did just makes me chuckle.
Unrelated: I ordered my wife's 128 rose gold 7 from ATT directly on the morning of Sept 12. Received it launch day.

I get the frustration, I am in the 4-10 window and was really hoping for shipment by now. But look at it this way. You keep using the 6s+ with the new ios10 (I only have the 6+ and the lag on it is starting to become an issue) and another 1-2 weeks you'll get the new7. At least thats what I keep telling myself as I obsessively check apples order page.
You mean neither you nor your wife were approved for the IUP? That makes no sense given what you're saying about your financial situation. Have you pulled your credit report to see if there's anything weird on it, despite your high FICO scores?
I am wondering this also. I had a reservation for a phone yesterday, but it was a 1.5 hour drive each way. I contacted apple via support chat to confirm that I could do this, and they said typically not but that it is up to the store manager. Another weird, lame policy on apples part. Just make it clear, can I buy the darn phone or not? I chose not to bother driving there for just a possibility of a phone.I've been weary of the believability of iStock but may success stories keep coming through. However, will the reservation only work if you're already a part of IUP or can you still do it if you're about to enroll in the program?

You got it. Not only that, Citizens Bank couldn't even (paraphrasing) access my wife's credit report. Multiple emails declining her SSN/Apple ID stated that. Said to call the credit bureaus to see if there was an issue.
The only thing I can think that was causing an issue for us is I was attempting to do the IUP while on vacation. I'm wondering if the geo-location of the IP address in attempting to do IUP not matching up with the approximate location of our home address had anything to do with the failures. I even went to an Apple store and attempted to do (with the help of an Apple employee) and it still failed with both of our SSN's/apple IDs.
I was able to order a Series 2 watch for my wife successfully when pre-orders began, and it was delivered on launch day.
As for our credit reports, I checked them after this mess was through. Wife's was never accessed by Citizens Bank. Mine showed a check from them. Nothing else.
Oh, wife's phone? Did the Next 18 plan with ATT. Took about 30 seconds start to finish. Just paid for mine outright with Apple, since the ATT site showed it would take 2 more weeks for delivery than if I ordered the phone from Apple.
You can still buy in full as long as you don't reserve through the IUP link. I just reserved through the online store and chose pickup. Selected the option for pay in full. Currently waiting in line to pick it up. I'll pet you know if it works out in the end.You can reserve without any IUP registration, once you're there you can change it to carrier financing or join IUP. I've heard you can't buy them fully though.
