Considering Apple sold a record # of iPhones last quarter, I'd say they're giving the customers exactly what they want.

So cause they sold "a record # of iPhones last quarter" that means that the old notification system is better than the new one? That means people don't actually want a better camera? or perhaps a better screen? better reception? lock screen activity etc?

Technology moves in a quite ridiculous pace, they sold a record # of iPhones with every iPhone so what you are saying is that after every record they should've stopped innovating.

On the screen matter, a 3.5 to 3.8 is probably be optimal. Not to small for the most and not to big for most people. Apple has only got 1 phone, so that phone has to fit as many people as possible. Samsung, HTC and then release phones that go from 3.5 to 5" cause they've got something for everyone. So too big is bad, cause they will definitely miss out on a lot of (female) costumers.

So you are blaming Apple because of flaws in the U.S.'s archaic patent system (which was just brought into the modern age w/ new legislation but it won't go into full effect for another year)? You do realize under the laws you have to defend your patent or you lose it and because the U.S. system was not "first to file," it makes true ownership of an invention, system, or business method difficult to prove. Apple had no choice but to sue, and was sued for the same reason.

Just the same Apple's legal dept sticks to legal issues, not innovating. Apple's R&D still did lots of that last year -- just look up all the patents Apple filed. I think your issue is that Apple can't get these innovations to market quick enough to suit you.

I agree but while his health is his own private business he is not an average guy he is also the single biggest influence of Apple shares and Apple do have a duty to shareholders to keep them informed about Steve's health so given Apple are as notorious as the Kremlin or the Castro family when it comes the the leaders health the constant speculation does attract ghouls and paparazzi vultures so if there is some honesty about his health then Steve would be less hunted.

This is a PHONE. Not a laptop, not a tablet.

I consider my 3gs already too large and too heavy to really comfortably carry in my pocket.

Also, even if they increase the screen size, they are very unlikely to increase resolution, because every app out there is already designed for 320x480 / 640x960. So, you won't see any more information on a bigger screen - everything will just be more stretched out.

I'm not sure what my prediction is on screen size, though. On one hand, the iphone 4 chassis has only been used on one device, so it seems kind of silly for them to retool everything on something that people love. On the other hand, it's been soooo long since their last refresh, along with the fact that competitors have larger screens (and MOLED coming!), that they might have to compete.

My prediction:

Definites:
- Faster CPU
- More storage (32gb)
- Antenna redesign
- Various software, iOS5, cloud stuff, blah blah

Maybe:
- Slightly larger screen size
- Some kind of near field / payment technology
- HSPA / faster 3g
- Better camera

Unlikely:
- LTE... big fail.

I think it is to do with Steve tbh and convinces me all the more than he will be doing the keynote.

Smaller venue, on site so Steve doesn't have to travel far from the chairman's office.

Steve can just get out of his office, go a few yards and he is there whereas if it was held elsewhere at a bigger venue there is him being transported to and from the venue, bigger stage for him to have to walk around and so on.

If the keynote was taking place in downtown San Francisco or whatever then Steve has to drive or be driven down there, likely in heavy traffic, tiring for a man who is not very well

He would already be on campus doing his chairman's job and holding meetings etc so it easy for him just to pop into the auditorium, less tiring, less effort for him, smaller stage

I am 99.99% certain we will see Steve playing an active role in the launch

Steve is chairman of Apple, it is not a fancy title just for the sake of it it would require attending meetings and of course chairing them etc so as chairman I am sure he regularly attends meetings on campus, just doesn't put in the 14 hr days a CEO needs to.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Steve is not working at Apple and hasn't been for many months. He's fighting for his life. The Chairman title is window dressing. His exit has was planned for months. It's not surprising. Tim will do the presentation. If Steve were to appear at all, I think it would be at the end. It's Tim's company now, and that needs to be affirmed from here forward.

They were "David" to Microsoft's "Golliath". Now they're using all the tricks to stiffle healthy competition that I hated Microsoft for using.
