Yes.

Hackintosh = using a screwdriver as a chisel, or hammering a screw into wood instead of screwing it in. Using something NOT as it was intended. I can't imagine this person is old enough to know what a trash 80 is ;)
[doublepost=1457051575][/doublepost]

Oh come on, lighten up - this is not aimed at anyone except for those who will out themselves, by reply.

I still own a TRS-80 (1, 3 4P, Coco +clones like the Systems-80/PMC-80) , actually I own about 350-380 old computers, mostly 8bit, 1970s-1980s stuff in various states of repair. I still occasionally write some Z80 code just to remind myself I can...lol.

Fair enough. It's the reason I didn't buy a Gen 1 Apple Watch. And likely won't for awhile. I'm fine with my LG G watch that is synced with my Note 5 (instead of my iPhone obviously). It was $80 on groupon and does all I need and more. On the flip side - I love my Gear VR and now my Ricoh Theta S 360 camera which I can use to shoot immersive photos and videos. Although the videos aren't remotely close to the quality they need to be yet in terms of resolution.

I have definitely been burned in the past with video game systems (god I'm old) and although there are some publishers making games, (supposedly) I think most publishers aren't looking for the newest thing, just the sure one and it's gonna take some time for those results to come in.

I do like that first pic, with the guy laid back in the chair. I kind of want his setup, just updated. Don't know what I'd use it for I think it's just the multitasker, and easily distracted in me.

What on earth are you talking about? That entire rant was literally for nothing. Did you build the Mac you're using? No, you didn't. What's the point you are trying to make? The custom "garbage" hardware? You mean the same exact garbage that goes into a Mac? Macs don't use magical fairy unicorn hardware. They're PCs too. They are not magically different they just have Apple's design aesthetic. All that stuff on the inside is the same. I really have no idea where you got this idea that I claimed to be all-knowing, but people bashing an entire community of people based on sheer ignorance, I felt I had to chime in. Really though, I haven't had this good of a laugh in some time. Thank you.

Tell me this - did you write, debug and compile Mac OS X? Nope. Okay, I'll leave you now to bask in your "L337" - enjoy :)

I've been waiting for Apple to release another good computer since the last one they released in 2010 -- one with internal expansion which doesn't require half a dozen extra power bricks and wall warts to increase storage, play or burn DVDs (yeah, they do still exist) and plug into a more secure, wired network. One, perhaps, which will work with any video card, not just the tiny selection of overpriced cards carrying the Apple logo.

Seen this? http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/action-cameras/index.page I'd be interested in trying this out.

Same here, also wish they would make one that could fit a desktop GPU in it.

The problem is their obsession with thinness. They really take form over function. OS X is great, but if you're handicapping the potential of your hardware by the eternal pursuit of thinness, something is wrong. I really wish they would at least make another expandable Mac Pro. I would buy it in a heartbeat. In the case of the iMac, having a 5K display driven by a mobile GPU just seems counterintuitive to me. A gorgeous display that doesn't have the hardware it deserves.

...an amazing amount of BS.

Racing game on a Mac vs racing game on a gaming PC. Both in-game shots, the one at the right running at 60fps in 4K resolution (with a beast of a gaming rig of course).

But it is all about how the device itself looks, isn't it? Who cares about what it can actually output to the screen... Only idiots care about details like that.

I think thinness is a problem with Apple right now, but it's also the market. I'd saw the biggest part of buyers of all computers prefer thin over anything else. So I can forgive them for making the standard Mac as thin as they can. I just can't figure out using mobile parts in what they call a Pro machine.

The requirements aren't exactly "extreme high end." You can get a 970 for about 300 bucks. That is not on the extreme high end of anything. The i5 is also not extreme high end either. The specs require a mid-range gaming PC. As for laptops, a laptop that meets these requirements costs about the same as a higher-priced MacBook Pro. You can get a 970 or 980 GTX M, Intel i7, etc.. So they're not rare, but they are high-end gaming laptops.

Also, with the type of GPUs coming out in the near future ... these requirements are going to be miniscule.

That has more to do with Macs than PCs. The requirements are for a mid-range gaming PC. It's a pretty average gaming desktop.

It's extreme high end for most people. And the 970 is the minimum. I'm planning to wait for the new architecture (Pascal, etc) because I actually don't think the 970 is enough based on using it with the less demanding DK2.

VR has to be the biggest gimmick ever. And honestly, if people want experience things, go outside and touch leaves. Jump in a lake. Thats reality. Virtual reality is going to make people more anti-social, and society as we know it is doomed. Also:

If this is what VR does to you, and makes you gain at least 50+ lbs. I'm out. As it is North America is facing an epidemic of obesity, and chronic illnesses. This idiot Palmer is just going to make kids/adults more fat and sick.

If you want to play games, BUY A GAMES CONSOLE. You guys are beyond incredulous - complaining for the sake of complaining. When did Apple EVER tell you that a Mac was made SOLEY FOR GAMING? Wow... the dumb is freely flowing here. I would go to Boeing and complain that the 747 doesn't have a gun turrett, missile launchers and can't break the sound barrier, if I were to follow your rationale.

Macs are CREATIVE PEOPLE'S TOOLS, they're not gaming computers... so why does that surprise (read: annoy) you?

Please, knock it off, you're just silly.

Doh.

I wouldn't say that, most sales for computers are probably more about looks. People just don't like the look of the giant beige box in the living room, or even office. Even gamers care about looks, but most of them build theirs to how they want it to look.
OSX needs to be freed from its hardware chains, it's such a shame a great OS is being mistreated like this.
If Apple did this it would drag the OS down. That has been the problem with Windows for years having to support so many different devices, manufacturers and legacy tech.

To be honest. Gaming as of late has been very generic, and disappointing. Too many games these days are all the same, and looking at the latest NPD results of the top 10 games makes me shudder. Grant Theft Auto V, Call of Duty. Same rubbish over and over. But you do make valid points.

A few games I know already specify the 980 as minimum, for example Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

For those people who think those VR glasses that use cell phones are good enough vs the Oculus - think again!

I suppose you're right. It is the minimum. I'm waiting on the Pascal GPUs as well. I wish they'd hurry up and release them already.

That's what happens when you gain weight and stop using Photoshop.

I'm glad there are games, products, whatever that continue to push the boundaries of technical capabilities.

I don't blame VR, I'd like to blame facebook. In my mind once they got bought out he got hooked on farmville or candy crush.

The iMac apparently is supposed to do 8k at 120fps, crap I didn't know that. I can't go on without quad sli in my life and not actually playing anything, just talking about it on line. iMac gets hot if you do game though... oh dear... how could we live.

And if Apple wants to have high-end GPU's in their computers, they need to ditch AMD. AMD sucks. UGH.
