It's passed 2 hours already and Genius has not scanned half of my library so far...

Something fishy there! Its just sending metadata files to iTunes which has your playcount and stuff not ur whole library. Should not take that long.

Force Quit Itunes and try Genius again. All the best!

Is this the first time Apple actually took out a higher capacity model in exchange for a smaller one? I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Why would they do that? They should have put the 160 at the price of the old 80, and then put a 240 or something at the price of the 160 (or just discontinued the 80 and kept the 160 as the only model). Weird.

Not too upset, just with the earbuds and the missing 160 (that I already have, so not too upset).

I was surprised too, but when you think about it, $349 is a lot to pay for an iPod that some users (with a small amount of music and video) can't comprehend owning. For Apple to make not only a thicker case, and order bigger HDDs, for TWO color models that probably weren't selling like hotcakes must have been hard.

Getting rid of the 160 and putting in the same size 120GB HDD as the 80 probably looked pretty good for Apple. I don't believe the "one size fits all" hype/marketing, but I guess there are going to be a lot of people grabbing refurbed 160GBs now. And I may pick up a second one myself.

When there's a 240GB HDD I do hope Apple sticks it in an iPod. I know they have been announced for next year, but I don't know if they are actually around for wholesale purchasing yet.

Hope the software for the new earbuds gets handed down to us diehard 160GB Classic fans, and hope the newbies/fan-people don't try to over justify the disappearance of that same 160.

so, what was the big deal here?

The whole thing was hyped too much, so while the updates are O.K., it left me with a distinct feeling of BLEH. Move on.

What about iPod games on the nano? I love Phase and would hate to see it go. I still like the chubby ones better.

Of note, iTunes now deletes old versions of iTunes apps when they update.

How many songs do you have? I have just under 9000 and it took maybe 5 minutes at the most. Is all of your music entered in correctly so iTMS can pull it up on the ministore thing? I don't know if it matters, but its a possibility.

ALSO side note, in iTunes with the List view, How do you remove the genre option on the browse feature. It use to just be iTunes->preferences-->general tab where you could uncheck it. I'm not seeing it though.

WHY!?!? They are so awesome, but I just wish they'd work as replacements for the ones that came with my iPhone. Now I'm forced to look for third party in-ear headphones that have a mic for talking on the phone...DOH!
I'm pretty happy with my set from Griffin which I use with my 3G iPhone -- black, with mic and click-button like Apple's.

iTunes 8 crashed for me on my iBook :(

Of course, I was trying to drag an image from Firefox onto the Grid View of iTunes in order to try and set the album art for an album with it (AC/DC, get on iTunes dammit!), but I wasn't expecting it to crash and burn.

Haha! I say the same to myself! in the Genius Sidebar, AC/DC and The Beatles are the only ones that can't be recomended from because they're not in the iTunes store!

I also can't find an option to uncheck 'show links to itunes music store'. Anyone found this? It's always been a gripe of mine! :)

I wonder why ipod touch users get the 2.1 update today and iphone users have to wait til Friday?

did i miss the reason? ehh, either way, i hope this will take us back to 1.1.4 performance, which i dearly miss.

So, the shuffles are back at being the previous color, the nanos the same kind of form factor... Apple really goofed on their previous iPod updates :p

I updated Brain Tuner Lite and lost my fastest time on 20 problems of 11.1 seconds :/ i'm stuck at 12 now. SAD TIMES

It's possible this shape made it easier to make it so thin, have accelerometer or something!

I really want one. Shame there's no point if you have a 16Gb iPhone :(
There's a huge point. I hate the touch i/f for music, and my iPhone dies in 3-4 hours if I play music on it (totally unacceptable).

Yes I always hate it when we lose options with updates. Like when Stacks were introduced with Leopard. Maybe this and getting rid of genre with browsing can be done again via command line? Would be nice.

Other than that, I don't foresee iTunes 8 changing much for me. Not really interested in the genius thing; trying to like the grid view, but it's really difficult to - there just doesn't seem to be a way to work with it that makes good sense to me. If it did a popup thing like the iPhone does - flip over the CD cover or so, that would be nice, but constantly switching views from grid to list and having more steps to access other music seems silly. Plus with sort by artist in grid view, it doesn't play the album you hover over in the image flow but the first one in the list.

It has also put iTunes over the 100MB mark for the first time, I think. Impressive for a music player :).

New headphones sound promising but pricey. The iPhone ones drive me crazy with their rubbery cord that just insists on twisting the buds out of my ears, even after two months of use! If they gain compatibility with the iPhone and get good feedback ... we'll see.

For the new iPods, I think the nanos look really nice, and yellow and orange are pretty exciting additions to the mix. The revert in form factor from 3rd gen is a bit of a surprise though. Not-so-nano-now!

i'm no pro at reading those frequency response charts, but do those new headphones look a little bass heavy to anyone? Some people like it bass heavy, so better for them, but I tend to prefer balance. At any rate, I hope it's better than the in-ear trash that Bose and Shure are trying to rip people off with at $129 and $99, respectively.

[edit] just to clarify, i'm sure the more expensive Shures sound good, but those cheapo ones you can get from AT&T stores and such for about $99 are garbage. As for what I think about BOSE? I think the only thing outstanding about BOSE is their marketing division.

BTW, I noticed on the apple site, that the iPhone (1st & 2nd gen) is missing from the compatibility list. Why would these NOT work for the iPhone?? weird.

The Genius feature in iTunes 8 works extremely well.

I'm impressed.

I hope they release the new Classic firmware with Genius for my 80Gb model.

*sigh* I’m still bummed that there wasn’t a tablet offered… But someone wrote something about hoping to see a Mac Tablet/PDA and then it hit me – The iPod Touch IS a PDA. I mean, it has all those apps so it can do just what my Tapwave Zodiac does. Apple just went about it in the opposite direction taking an MP3 player and giving it productivity apps instead of taking a PDA and giving it apps so it can play movies and music – so the iTablet is here they just call it an iPod Touch.

Of course I want a tablet based on their OS X operating system… hopefully that will come another day.

i see what the mean by rainbow ipods, and...................
BUYAH, I TOLD YOU I WAS RIGHT
smirks and laugh at those who called me an idoit
