2024: Classic Marathon, released on Steam for free by the folks who made Aleph One. Back in the day, like 25+ years ago we used to have some great LAN parties playing this game. 🥰

Looks like Marathon 2 and Infinity are just a round the corner.
Neat. I might have to give this a go! I've tried playing the original on my PPC iMac but it freezes every time I interact with a pattern buffer so I've never managed to get very far.

Marathon Infinity on Steam for free for Mac and PC.

No need for Steam, Marathon is now open source. Mac Source Ports has it DRM free for all and native on Apple Silicon. Not a compliant just a more open alternative. Mac Source Ports offers many other games that run natively on Apple Silicon. Note for many you need to own the game ad the data file are required.

Mac Source Ports only provides the game engine unless the game is verified as free.

And they released M2 on steam too, so now the full trilogy is available on Steam.

Naturally, it is good that the games are available as open source outside of Steam, but it is still good to have them inside Steam as the interface. Updates come in automatically, plug-ins are checked and approved etc.

Its a shame that the various add-ons that were made for Aleph One are not included in the base game (to be enabled as option). High resolution textures and lighting effects would be cool to have included to give new comers a reasonable experience.

Even if some of us purists perhaps play the game as originally launched, from time to time. ;)

Apotheosis X is a total conversion for Marathon Infinity running on the Aleph One engine. Apotheosis X pushes the boundaries of what's possible aesthetically with the marathon engine whilst retaining its low resolution 90's charm. The campaign features engaging combat that scales with player skill and aggression, with a roster of new enemies and weaponry that compliments the original games' nuance and high skill ceiling.

Resurrecting an old thread here, but I'd posted about this on Reddit three years ago and someone replied to my post with a fix! Increasing the memory allocation (both minimum and preferred) to 16000k makes it work. Just in case anyone else ever runs into the issue :)
