Be careful if you plan on purchasing this tonight. I just bought it from amazon but had to cancel my order b/c apparently amazon is not in the eastern time zone and my order receipt said November 22. Anyone know what time zone they are in?

I believe Amazon is on Pacific time zone. That is why I just ordered through staples even though it was slightly higher than amazon. I rather get some sleep than to wait till 3AM est.

My e-mail confirmation stated Nov. 23th. as the ordered date so staples must be on est time zone.

just bought it from jr.com (linked from amazon) and got it with shipping for $131. thanks for the heads up on this one. This will help ease my transition from the PC world to my new iMac that I ordered 2 days ago.

The part where it says that the software must be 'acquired on November 23, 2007 with a dated receipt of purchase' makes me think that you have to have it physically in hand on that day.... so online sales might be a no go... I sure hope I'm wrong!

Yeah, I read that part as well. I'm hoping that actual invoice date of 11/23/07 will suffice but I thought I was reading too much into it. I'm cautiously optimistic that it will be honored by MS.

FWIW, on my confirmation purchased e-mail from staples, they linked it to a printable $100 rebate. However when I click on it, it isn't working.

The MSFT folks confirmed on their blog that either online or offline purchases made on Friday the 23rd will count. (Look down near the bottom of the comments...comment by Sherjo at 11:35 AM Thursday.)

Wow- but do I qualify for student/teacher edition?

Wow, this seems a little too good to be true...but it's got me considering!
I'd really like to pick Office up for my kids- my daughter in particular will be required to do her first Powerpoint presentations this year- but the rules for qualifying for the Student Teacher Edition of Office seem nebulous... do I qualify as a parent of two kids in public primary school?

I'm definitely doing this. Great find! Between this, a TV, Lost, and a bunch of other stuff I am set for tomorrow :)

Both Rebate forms are now linked on the Amazon page. Just ordered. This feels like stealing! :D

I'm pretty sure you do not.... but unless i'm mistaken, this deal does not apply to the educational edition.

Happy Thanksgiving! And thanks for the tips! I just bought it thru JR.com from amazon!

Was gonna get it when 2008 is released,... but cheaper to get it today!

And Student edition is included!

From Amazon's product page:

Eligibility
To license Office 2004 for Mac Student and Teacher Edition, you must be a Qualified Educational User or the parent or guardian of a Qualified Educational User who is a minor. Qualified Educational Users include full- or part-time students, home schooled students, and full- or part-time faculty or staff of an accredited educational institution.

He's obviously a parent of two minors so I would say he's qualified.

Please note that the prices in this quote are for the Student Teacher Office

Appleinsider is reporting that Microsoft is offering a $100 mail-in-rebate on copies of Office 2004 that are purchased this friday.

The student and Teacher edition is $124.99 on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Off...N16M?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1195681005&sr=8-1

Subtract the $100 rebate= 24.99
and the 6.99 for the super sweet redemption deal: http://download.microsoft.com/downl...67C-64E7D8B95BD2/MacOffice_SuperSuiteDeal.pdf

=31.98 for Office 2008 and Office 2004

And not a standard or professional full version or upgrade. Ann upgrade on Amazon is $104.00 w/coupon

He's obviously a parent of two minors so I would say he's qualified.

Based on that, he would be eligible. But it's what Microsoft says that counts, not Amazon. Their eligibility terms don't explicitly allow for the guardian of a minor student to purchase the S&T edition.

Should I do it?

This seems like a great deal but the question is... Do I really need Office 2008? I began using iWork this year and I love it, I have Office 2004 now but I never open it anymore. With iWork and it's great export features is Office really necessary even for $30?

And yet under Office 2007 they have renamed it to Home and Student and clearly states in their FAQ that you don't have to have a student in your household. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I think Microsoft is not too concerned about someone who is not a student(but is the parent or guardian) buying this version as evidenced by their lack of any requirements to show proof that you are a student or teacher. Further, they are even loosening the restrictions with their current version as seen as Office 2007.

In the end, it's up to the individual as to whether you get it or not.

With Amazon out of stock (3 to 5wks delivery estimate) and J&R out of stock, what are the other options? Most places requrie $140+tax+shipping.:(

Also, is there differences between BD6-00001 vs BD6-00039 Student/Teacher edition? Both software qualifies for the rebate.

I don't think M$ is going to having a problem with anyone buying the Student and Teacher edition. This is just M$ trying to get A) All these old copies of Office 2004 sold and B) These numbers only help their market share against iWork.

rebate timeline

Can you still get the rebate if the delivery estimate is 3-5 weeks? I don't mind waiting for the software, but I want to make sure the rebate would still be valid. I don't want to order it if I cannot get the rebate! :)

That's the dilemma I have.
Rebate has to be post marked by December 23 and it requires front page of the manual for submission.

I purchased this at Apple today for $50...A great deal on Office 2008! I already have Office 2004 but it's worth it to save money on the next version.

Amazon's price has gone up. So you might be better off ordering it from apple.
