I've seen some odd weather delay and even cancel ballgames, but nothing quite like this:

...

And they're gonna try to do it again today, twice, with a projected high of 32 degrees.

(shakes head)

What really gets me is that even though the game "never happened," its non-existence is still likely to place Victor Martinez on the dl for 15 days.

And with 3-5 inches on the field at the moment, they're calling off today's double header.

I get that you don't want the same teams starting on the road every season, but we could certainly start the season a week or two later and lose some off days over the summer. Give guys more rest -- is it so imperative that Todd Helton play 155 games a year instead of 140?

I don't know if its the cold or spring jitters but the Yankees have not been fielding the ball well the first week.

A-Rod Grand Slam to win the game in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out. He finally comes thru in the clutch.:)

I can't fracking believe it!!!! I hope this is finally A-Rod's "Yankee Moment" I have yet to see the comeback (I know they were down 7-3) and the Slam. ESPNEWS is slacking big time right now.

i like the later start, that means less segregation in coverage (i.e., west coasters gets their game same time as east coasters), and fox only has the tv exclusive window between 4-7 instead of the 1-7 slot (why you didn't see tv games on saturday outside of the fox game). much better than the old way.

The Yankees would always play during the fox window.

Right now Fox has 3 games going. They used to to a double header but you only saw the in market game. Nothing has changed just the start of the game.

Yeah,that Papelbon sure is a stiff :p :D

Papelbon, maybe strong, but like the ESPN 'casters were saying yesterday, games can be won or lost just as easily in the Seventh or the Eight. You need more then a closer to have a strong Bull Pen.

It's sad (or maybe its a good thing) that I'm more worried about us clinching the division at home then I am about us clinching the division in general.

We have seven home games the second to last week (Florida and the Brewers) , and then finish out the season with six away games (Philly and Houston). If everything is as tight as predicted, they'll probably clinch in Philly.

After one week you're trying to predict the details of the division title? I wouldn't count any chickens....

The red sox can't have Papplebon go 5 innings tho, that is the problem with their pen, they don't have mid relief. The Yankees have a good pen but need more then 4 innings out of the starters.

Of note Arod is leading the majors with 4 HRs
Something for Red Sox fans to chew on, Trot Nixon is leading the AL with a .556 ave.

first place feels good

well, the braves are finally back alone in first place, and knocked the overrated mutts off their high horse. that pen is going to give them problems and don't expect the pitching rotation to be any good for them either.

i think it's going to go down between the braves and the marlins. phillies aren't good enough and the mutts are overrated, hitting won't get you far without pitching. marlins have a pitching staff that matches ours as well as a more potent offense than us so far.

and jimmy rollins needs to keep his mouth shut. 1-5 after one week (yes, it's early), but it's not looking good so far.

and hear this one...dl drew's idol is barry bonds...how fitting.

and yankee fans, i'll be on your side come red sox and mets time.

Our 'pens not the greatest either. Soriano and Wickman are lights out, but even Gonzalez makes me a bit nervous. Every outting he's had has been a little shaky, but every outing he's had has been in cold weather, and he's gotta feel the ball to pitch well, so we'll see as it warms up.

The braves HAVE gotten far on hitting alone, so I'd still say the mets are the team to watch out for. The marlins have a rotation, but not bats, so I don't think they'll be a large problem for us.

The Dodgers swept the Giants in Barrytown over the weekend. Zito was pounded in Sunday's game, and Bonds was held to (I believe) one base hit in all three games. They open the season at home today behind a four-game win streak. And the really nice part is they're doing it with some of the most important bats in the lineup still asleep, and with Furcal sidelined.
