Official MacRumors February 2008 Nike+ Challenges

Anyone here have any experience running on a 200 meter track? I'm going to be running on one tomorrow at an indoor track meet. I had to go out yesterday and buy shorter spikes just so I could use them on that track (1/8th inch instead of 1/4). I'm going to be running in a 4x800 and the 3200. I worried I'm going to lose count of how many laps I've done in the 3200 (16 laps total).

I used to run on a 200m track all the time (in college and high school). I think it's a lot of fun. Some people do lose count during an indoor 2 mile, as they only count laps for the leader. So if you don't anticipate leading, have someone count for you!

Yea, I'm not as fast as our fastest man because he can run a sub 10:00 3200 and there will be people as fast as me so hopefully I won't lose count.

i actually had a meet at Virginia Tech this weekend. and it didn't go well. but i'm not worried, still a long season ahead of me

It was flat, my time was slow for the 3200 but I think that was more because I ran it almost at midnight so I'm not worried plus it is still the preseason so I have time to get better. My coach told me I need to put in more miles so that is what I'm going to do. :)

cool. yeah it's early in the season. dang, almost midnight?

yeah, running more miles can be good. just remember, it's usually quality over quantity though.

The 3200 was the second to last event and it was suppose to start around 10:40 and it didn't even start till around 11:40. The 4x400 didn't start till midnight! So, I'm not really that concerned with it being a slow time because my body isn't used to that much energy output at that time. :)

dang, that is late. and i really hate it when the meet gets behind like that. it seems that they always do

Any other UK runners here? I just joined the "Run for your County" challenge for Somerset, not many runners on there at the moment so I am drumming up a bit of support.

This is obviously a supplement to these great MacRumor's Challenges ;)

I'm currently 9th in the 500 mile club, and hoping to push on to the front screen as soon as I can..... I'm behind at the moment and it will be a challenge to hit the 500 miles which is perfect for me!

I've noticed the top have done 353, 195 & 161 miles already, surely they should be in one of the other groups like 1,000 miles?

This seem to happen quite a lot on the Nike site, I created a challenge clearly labelled for beginners to try and get below 25 mins for 5km over a 3 month period. The first three runners that joined posted 18 mins for their first run!! So I booted them out!

I'll provide a small contribution.
Nike+ name is
Geordie Rob
born in January if you want to invite me to that one as well.

ziwi has to be in there, since he started the challenge, but you're right. They should all otherwise be in the 1,000 mile challenge.

Isn't the point of the xxx-mile clubs more to complete the challenge than to "rank"? I guess it would be nice if it only showed you a bar graph of people who don't yet have 500 miles, and it made like a winners circle with trophies for everyone who hit the goal.

Sure, I guess that's the ultimate goal...but I check my place compared with those closest to me. I want to see if I've run more than them in the past day or two. I'm a sucker for competition, even if the other person doesn't know they are competing against me. :)

Of course you are. Most of us who participate in this are. But that's the point... you want to be competing with the other people who, like you, haven't finished the challenge yet. The people who've already run 600 miles are competing with each other in the 1000 mile challenge, and so on.

Oooh, oooh, I want to join. 9-12 miles per week here I come!

What do I need to do to add my miles?

Cool! PM ziwi and ask to be added to the main MR Team challenge and either the 500 mile or 1,000 mile in a year challenge....... and any of the others from the first post on this thread.

Welcome!

Me too, just been on to check where you are in the 500 mile..... what's your NikeId as I can't see a tobefirst on there! I'm sreedy25 on there if you hadn't guessed

Dang...I didn't think I was *that* far behind. (; Look again.

Sadly, my knees aren't holding up as well as I'm hoping they will. I've fallen farther behind than I would like to be. I can't run as far as I'd like, nor as often.

I asked them if they wanted to bump up to no avail.

I do need to be in all the challenges I make - it is just the way it works. At the highest one (2000) I am in last...;)

Sorry I see you now, at 19.... you were top of the page on the second leader-board page! At least we are all out there running! I realised I am going to make the 500 in the year quite comfortably at this pace, maybe I should go for the 1,000 too...... ziwi can you send me an invite?
