On the 25,000 miler you mean? Yeah... but hopefully as we pick up more people during the year we'll catch up. And people will run more as it gets warmer. :)

yeah hopefully. it'll be tough though

Thanks for the advise chaps, was feeling especially crud last night so didn't go but am feeling almost normal now. So I'm going to wrap up and go for a gentle 5k! Got to keep moving......

that's the spirit! :)

Well, got back from my holiday yesterday and with that out of the way decided it was time to go for a run and try the ankle out. Only did 2K but it felt fine which is good.

Just need to get into the running properly now and get contributing some miles! Those 2K I've just added won't go far towards the big target! :D

glad your ankle is fine. just be careful when you're running. you'll be fine though :)

As has been mentioned before the Nike+ sites rubbish design doesn't allow us to actually see how many miles we have done for the 25,000 mile challenge. Does anyone know roughly how far we are behind? All I can see is .22 miles!

Would a 10% increase by the mid-table runners like me add enough?

that's a good question. i think the only way to figure it out is to add up all the runners' miles

I can't see a way of doing it either. Bit rubbish really as it's not particularly easy to add up each of the runners miles. There ought to be an easier way than that...

yeah i don't know. i'm not going to worry with it now though. just keep logging the miles

It makes it worse that it's flash and you can't even cut and paste the leader board in to Numbers and get that to add it up!

OK I'm that bored at work this morning so I typed them into Excel, at whole miles (I decided to ignore the decimal places as it was quicker). I make it 3,021 miles in total, an average of 64 miles per person registered (but there are 2 on zero and 10 with less than 10 miles).

What should we be on by now? Using this calculation I think we are ahead, but I might be wrong:

(goal/days in year) * running days in year so far = where we should be?

(25000/366) * 41 = 2,800.54645

Which makes us approx 221 ahead????? Or am I doing this wrong?

@ sreedy - I agree with the way you've worked it out but we've had more than 41 days this year so we'll be behind the target currently.

Genius Sreedy! 31 days in Jan + 20 in Feb = 41 ...... what a spaz!

(25000/366) * 51 = 3,483.60656

Which makes us approx 462 behind (or 6.7 days!)

Sorry for my absence... I took some time off from running because of travel issues, but I've started trying daily 5ks focusing on speed... I worked my way down from the high 26 / low 27 range in the past for training runs to being around 25 typically, and I bagged a 24:22, which set a personal record. Gah, I'm slow!!! :p

Oooh, and I just hit 300 lifetime Nike+ miles, and I am close to 100 runs (should be there this week). :)

thanks for the update on where we are. we are farther behind than i thought. before we were less than 400 behind. we've got some work to do.

glad to hear you're getting your time down. good job :)

I would expect to be behind - if we were ahead it would not be that much of a challenge. If we can get some new runners and some of the middle tier folks to do a little more and the lower tier folks to do a little more - you know by a little more I mean 'challenge' them I think it can be done. Granted the 25K express is leaking a little oil in that we are giving back some miles each month, but it seems to have slowed and soon it will go the other way...I know it will ;)

Keep on running everyone.

My short term goal is to get enough miles to see the total again...;)

Yeah, I'm not surprised we're behind at this point in the year. It's promising though as it's not a huge gap, so like you say with a bit of a challenge to everyone, it should start to close. I'll be having another run out tomorrow to try and add a little bit more to the total...

yeah, i'm not surprised either. but, unless my memory is wrong, we are further behind than before. but hopefully the ones with very few miles will start to pick it up some.

I've obviously not been keeping track but it makes sense to me that we're further behind as I doubt we're quite hitting the amount required each day. I would expect that for a little longer we continue to fall a little further behind each day until the people like me start to pick up and we then start to work our way back towards the amount needed each day and close the gap.

you are probably right. yeah that makes sense to keep falling behind i guess.

So right now, we have 49 runners, right? meaning that they each have to average some ... 1.5 miles a day or so, to stay on track. Even adding a runner that runs say 5-7 miles a week would add in about 300 miles over the year. Perhaps we need to *recruit*. :D

I'm not surprised either, but the amount we're behind is a little disturbing. 13% is a lot! Of course, only 2 months in, we have plenty of time to catch up, but we've got some miles to run!

yeah, we do need to recruit. that's why we put it in our sigs. but the point is for them to be from macrumors though

yeah i know. we gotta start catching up

I totally agree that we've got some miles to run, but like ziwi said before me a bit earlier in the thread, it should be a challenge to us so if we were on target now then you could argue it isn't stretching enough.

I must say though that I feel a little bit out of place saying this given how much I've contributed! Even though I've had my first run and will be going out again tonight, I'm never going to contribute like some of you guys.

Of course... no ringers. :D

gavd, just running at all helps (and is good for you! :p ). Don't worry about how much. I'm not going to vary from my current program of working on speed training just to inflate the numbers, although I could be running six miles a day instead of three.... I wouldn't expect that of anyone.

no, i'm glad that this is a challenge. but of course i want to get it!

don't feel out of place. as long as you are running, that's really all the matters. the real point is for you to make yourself better. if that's running 10 miles a week, so be it. it doesn't matter. remember, you are helping yourself

Anyone here have any experience running on a 200 meter track? I'm going to be running on one tomorrow at an indoor track meet. I had to go out yesterday and buy shorter spikes just so I could use them on that track (1/8th inch instead of 1/4). I'm going to be running in a 4x800 and the 3200. I worried I'm going to lose count of how many laps I've done in the 3200 (16 laps total).

Ran for the first time in 2.5 weeks. I thought that I might have messed up my knee, and, after having both ACLs replaced within the last 4 years, I don't have any knees to spare. Still not convinced the knee is "right," but it felt fine during the run.
