Official MacRumors February 2008 Nike+ Challenges

so a 6-mile run today, and my ipod said 5.6 or so.....i still can't get it to calibrate! i guess i'll have to do it with my old nano one day

it finally calibrated! i had to set it to a custom distance, but still did 0.25 miles, and it worked. hopefully my runs will be more accurate now

well i spoke too soon. yeah, i calibrated it, and now it's even less accurate than before!

are you making an effort to run at a particular pace when you calibrate? I just recalibrated yesterday, and I tried to run the 400m as close to what I think my real, average pace is.

on a different note, I'm feeling much better after falling on the ice a few days ago and missing 2 days of running. :)

So it is not calibrated and underestimating miles, but it is also posting times faster than you say you can do it...I know I am confused by that...

I find that when calibrating doing a walk calibration at a steady pace and then doing a run calibration at a steady pace (treadmill really helps this one) for a distance of .5 or a mile seems to get it pretty solid. BTW it also adjusts over time based upon the workouts i.e. if you walk alot and then run the runs will appear longer/faster. I think it gets used to a slower pace and then when you start running it gives you extra...I would imagine that would be the effect for varied training like intervals as well.

i tried to calibrate at my training pace, which is roughly 6:45 per mile.

glad you're feeling better. were you ice skating or what?

no, i got a new sensor. the old one was posting faster times.

do you have the new ipod? i think it has different software, and so i think it calibrates differently (and does everything slightly different)

It was freezing today and there was a large part of me thinking... "hmm, perhaps I should stay in. I went to the gym and did a Pump class yesterday after all"

But no! I got all the layers on, found the running gloves and went out. Tripped down front stairs and went over on ankle. Youch!

But didn't feel so bad so went out and did 4 miles :D So with the gym session earlier this week, that's quadrupled my contribution to the challenge. :p

But now the ankle is hurting. Will keep it elevated and iced tonight and should be OK for tomorrow at the gym. Just find it so much harder to run on a treadmill!

I'm not convinced about the new Nano software. They've made the numbers smaller and with the red background, I find them harder to see without switching the backlight on.

glad to hear that you were able to run. just be careful with the ankle, but it sounds like you'll be fine (hopefully).

yeah, the Nano software takes some getting used to. it just seems more responsive and snappier :p but it is not perfect.

I'm really enjoying the current crop of challenges, I'm in the 500 miles one. I also did one of those resolutions and I'm doing well on that, just got the start of a cold coming on now though :( ..... do I rest and beat it OR try and run through it?

i like the current challenges too (except i think we are behind)

as for your cold, you have to listen to your body. you can keep running if it's not too bad, but just be smart about it. try not to run in the freezing cold, and if you do, dress appropriately. and take some medicine if you need it. (but personally, i'd keep running. but you do what you gotta do)

General rule is that it's ok to run through a cold that's just throat and above. If there are symptoms below the throat, don't run until they go away.

On the 25,000 miler you mean? Yeah... but hopefully as we pick up more people during the year we'll catch up. And people will run more as it gets warmer. :)

Thanks for the advise chaps, was feeling especially crud last night so didn't go but am feeling almost normal now. So I'm going to wrap up and go for a gentle 5k! Got to keep moving......

Well, got back from my holiday yesterday and with that out of the way decided it was time to go for a run and try the ankle out. Only did 2K but it felt fine which is good.

Just need to get into the running properly now and get contributing some miles! Those 2K I've just added won't go far towards the big target! :D
