And some of my widgets don't work anymore ... xCuts and Wikipedia widgets seem to just be the background.

I have the same problem – lots of widgets got messed up! :(

Has anyone figured out how to fix the compatibility issue with "transparent dock"?

I use ClearDock and I have no issues…

Anyway, I don't really have any problems with Safari itself (Mac version), in fact it's a lot faster! :)

(…the Winblows version is a mess though. )

pdf crashes and general question about plug-ins

Not a permanent solution if you prefer the built-in PDF viewer, but it does seem to be fine using the Adobe Reader 8.1 plug-in.

Same problem here but how do I get back to using Acrobat again? I guess I can reinstall it but that seems silly since the problem is Safari - not Acrobat.

In general, is there anyway to control and play around with which plug-ins you want to use for specific file types? For instance if I prefer opening a specific type of movie with player so and so instead of quicktime, can I do that from within Safari? Sometimes I get frustrated with the lack of options and control in Mac (Apple) software. While a PC app has 500 check boxes and options the Mac version lets you chose between on or off. Sort of...

Crashes, PC

everything is working fine on my mac, the pc is another story. every time i try to add bookmark it crashes. so i click on the report bug, that makes it crash also.

anyone else having this problem? how do i fix it?

yes i have installed it and uninstalled it a few times.

Safari installs fine on my Vista machine, but web pages take a ridiculously long time to load (5 minutes or more), versus a few seconds with my other browsers. The pages usually end up broken too.

Oh yeah, it also broke my iTunes installation.

Issues in Mac and PC

I had issues in my Mac and my PC. In my mac, msn messenger started crashing a lot since I installed Safari 3 and in my PC, Safari 3 crashes every time I want to add a bookmark or when I try to change the homepage.
If someone knows what is the problem please contact me.

same here

Always crashes on startup. Starts to just display part of the main menu, then I get a 'Please tell microsoft about this problem'. I have not done that yet becaue I don't want MS to get any satisfaction on this issue.

Windows XP service pack2, up to date on patches.
AMD 1.34GHz 512MB Ram

Interesting, I have the EXACT same problem as you, I also have a 1.3Ghz Athlon with 512mb RAM and XP SP2.

Exactly the same problem here :(
Windows XP SP1
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ 1.46GHZ 512MB RAM (maybe athlon related?)

In 10.4.9, Safari 3 causes Messenger to crash randomly
:(

Seems to me this is alpha rather than beta software, still I'm not complaining, they'll be able to find bugs quicker with ther large userbase that is testing at the moment.

are there any new features?

Hi,
I don't get it. I've installed this new safari and frankly I don't get it. So far as I can see there are no new feature except the tabs move?

Are there any other new features?

I don't think this warrants a 3 release.

Most of the changes aren't really in the user interface. There have been lots and lots of changes made underneath to deal with standards compliance and compatibility, performance (this will become a little clearer after Web site operators wake up and notice that they need to fix their browser sniffing to reflect the changes). Some of the features won't be visible at all without Leopard.

The new tab management, inline find, selective reset are the highlights (plus the speed). There are a few other little improvements...check out the Safari 3 beta lovin thread for details.

I have this problem as well!!

Also, safari 3 doesnt even open for me. Every time i try opening it the "safari crashed etc" box comes up.

Same here, Safari 3 crashes on start-up :( I'm on an iBook G4 running 10.4.9.

Guess it might have something to do with some plug-in not working correctly.

I might have an issue with cookies, it seems that I don't have any in my library/cookies folder. also, dashflix seems to not find the cookie needed to run. another note is that I only have one bookmark which has the site icon next to it. I set cookies to always accept in prefs. how can I fix this issue?

thanks, found right away, but still no icons in bookmark menu, but i do have them when i hit the bookmark tab in the bookmark bar. I even reset safari and closed and re opened, odd

BIG problem with Safari 3

I have G4 PB running 10.4.9, just got Safari 3 Beta.

can't close windows. can close tabs, but pressing the 'x' button doesn't work to close the window. Uninstalled as it was getting ridiculous. anyone else had this problem? Kind of sad that they obviously forgot to test it on older machines.

Anyone else have this problem??

Hi

I've got a bug I havn't heard from anyone else...yet. I'm running Safari on Xp...

When I try to customize the main toolbar, it all works fine, until I click the "Done" button, the application totally crashes. I get the same problem when I attempt to send a bug report to Apple, when I push the Submit or Cancel buttons. Does anybody else have this problem? It may only be a Safari for Windows bug... Or it may just be a problem on my computer with a hardware incompatability or something similar... Could other "Safari on Windows" users check this out? Just go View> Customize Toolbar, make a change and press "Done".

Thanks in advance

If you have previously used "Taboo" (the plugin that gives you the warning about closing windows with multiple tabs) then remove it and restart Safari. I had this issue when I first downloaded the beta. I'm at work on Windows at the moment so can't quite remember the path (in a plugins/SIMBL folder??) - just do a Spotlight search for it.

I'm running Safari on XP Pro SP2 right now and I don't get the same bug as you. I customised my toolbar the other day and it was fine. This morning I downloaded the 3.0.1 updated version and it still works fine. Do you have the newer Safari version? It's so difficult to pinpoint what's wrong as there are so many "versions" of Windows...

Hey. Yep, I'm running the 3.0.1 build and also im running it on XP Pro, SP2. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now my Main Toolbar lacks the Adressbar/Google search box. and... i can't rectify this problem because whenever I attempt to cusomize it the whole app crashes... Even after I uninstall the problem remains... Does anybody know where Safari stores the user preferences? So I can delete them and start from scratch... It is still beta, i suppose...

EDIT: nope, sorry, just found the file in %appdata%/Apple Computer/
Must have missed it the first time...oops :)

EDIT 2: Ok...deleted all the Safari information i know of....then reinstalled. Same problem!!! ARGH!

safari on xp HELP, pleeeease

hi everybody,

first post in this forum ever!
Anyone else having big crashing problems with safari on xp?
I've DLed and installed it a couple of times, then when i open it just a couple of pieces of the browser appear on the screen and it collapses right away...forcing me to close Safari.

what is wrong?
i've got all windows requirements.

Please, some help here! It'll be greatly appreciated...

Alejandro.

Ever since I upgraded to the beta version of Safari 3 on all three of my Macs (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and iMac which are all Intel based) I can not forward attachments (graphics, text files, ext.) in the Mail program. The attachments just no longer show up when you hit forward as they did previously.

Can anyone else confirm this problem?

Thanks,

Dave
